One of the first times I went on a trip with my family as a kid long enough to need a stayover in a hotel I was doing dumb kid things and opening all the things in the hotel room and look inside one, turned to my parents, and asked "What's a Holly Bibble?" It's certainly not impossible. I knew some people in high school who failed the literacy test despite having gone through all of public education before grade ten when the test was served. One of them did read on the occasion, as in out of personal interest rather than for school assignments, but they failed the test all the same. It's one thing to read and another thing to comprehend what you've read, and I dunno about schools down under but here I think it's not too hard to get through high school without being particularly strong in that aspect. You'd probably hit some harsher walls in community college or university without those skills though.

It's not strictly, but having a hard time parsing a word in your native language for its "proper" pronunciation, even a hodgepodge language like English, does maybe indicate something's going awry with the part of your brain doing the reading. As a kid for me it was more I'd done way more reading than I'd done listening to people talk so I hadn't formed the broad variety of rules and exceptions to the rules that make up English pronunciation.

Maybe I'll go out into the city for the first time in a while tomorrow or the day after. There's an audio shop that was recommended to me by a friend that really know their sound systems and headphones. And I would kinda really like a pair of headphones that aren't so ... degraded. Asking them about options might be a good idea, though they tend to deal in audiophile-level stuff so the price range might be a bit high for me. Still it doesn't hurt to ask. And it would be nice to get out into the city again.

So I guess if I'm looking for something it's a pair which is about the price I got these for, are physically comfortable like these, are decently well-made and durable, and provide good but not necessarily audiophile-quality sound.
It took me until now to remember our house's HVAC has an option to just have the fan running without running the AC too. So I can get all that sweet cool air out of the basement and into my room, and also do something about the stagnant air sitting around too. It's nice.
My sleep schedule's firmly in the gutter right now. Not only is my brain on the notion the that the right time to get tired is around 07:00 - 09:00 I've also been in bed for like ten to twelve hours at a time, drifting in and out of sleep. It's so way off when and how long I need to sleep though that it's hard to figure out the route to fixing it.

It's kind of hard to just lay in bed and fall asleep with all that running rampant in my head so I'm stuck falling asleep whenever I get too tired to be awake, which isn't conducive to trying to realign a sleep schedule that's already this way out of whack.

They're only depicted as porcine in more contemporary fantasy (primarily Japanese these days) because in early D&D Gary Gygax was describing orcs to someone I think an illustrator and he said that they were "pig headed" but he didn't mean it literally. So D&D orcs were porcine for a while, not sure when they changed them. It would've happened in 3rle at the latest. But the heavy influence of early D&D on Japanese fantasy is why in contemporary Japanese fantasy and going back to the 80's that their orcs are porcine much of the time.

I'm just saying you're incorrect in that Playstation controllers don't need an extra program, just PS3 controllers. Steam's plug-and-play interface with the Switch Pro controller at least is very adaptable. Every game I've used it for, the game instantly understood I was using a Switch controller and would provide me with contextually accurate control set-ups using the buttons on the Switch controller. For the most part there's like one weird instance I don't quite get with the + button. I would imagine Steam's plug-and-play for the PS4 controllers are equally adaptable.

The PS4 is based on an entirely different architecture which makes it much more like a PC (and much more like an Xbox, honestly). This is also why they couldn't just do backwards compatibility with the PS3 since games meant to run on a PS3 were like games for a Mac being ran on a Windows OS. Since the PS4's architecture is much more like that of a PC's, it's peripherals like controllers are much less alien to a PC than the PS3's and so it's a lot easier for Steam to set up plug-and-play compatibility with PS4 controllers.
This is what I meant by Microsoft barely even being relevant here in making Steam co-operate with PS4 controllers; if anything it's SONY to blame for the initial incompability of PS3 controllers and their change up of architecture with the PS4 that finally made compatiblity feasible.

Not here it would be. This part of North America is cupped by some huge-ass lakes and they act as thermal batteries (as well as doing some other weird shit with the weather). It's not unusual for September to have some of the hottest days of the year 'round here.
The lakes tend to make spring last longer into the year but also make summer last longer into the year too. Or really we just tend to get the normal seasonal changes like a month or two late.
Moving's going to be a pain in the ass but man am I going to be glad at the chance to live somewhere that actually gets sun. This house gets stupid cold if the air temperature drops below 20C because there's no sunlight that warms the house.

I'm usually wearing headphones for like hours at a time. I'd probably still be using headphones even if I was living alone for similar reasons to Samu. Plus I've got pretty good ears so I would rather have a quality sound system than some basic computer speakers. But since good sound systems are expensive and I've -and I'd want a pair of headphones anyway, might as well just get a quality pair of headphones instead.

Directional sound can be a great little boost to immersion factor, like playing MonHun and hearing the monster crashing through the underbrush off to your right. Personally I really like picking up on little audio details in music or game audio, and that's not something cheap audio hardware or a surround sound system you're not blasting at ridiculously high volumes can provide, really. I can keep my headphone volume levels at like 25% max and still pick up on minute details and the cleaner audio means different sounds don't blend together before they reach my ears. Definitely makes listening to stuff more enjoyable for me.

Wow they're really saving for a rainy day, eh. I remember when the Wii U flopped people were talking like "Nintendo won't recover financially from this, it's due time they bow out of the hardware race and focus on making games third-party". But the doofuses didn't know that Nintendo holds a tonne of money just on hand like this precisely because it lets them take risks on consoles like the Wii U and keep going strong regardless. I mean the aggressive marketing and PR for the Switch was probably in part because of the low reception of the Wii U and if both had flopped then maybe Nintendo might've needed to start being a little less risky. I think the record shows though that their business model is pretty reliable though.

As long as they keep going as they've been going, yeah Nintendo will endure. I'd be a bit cautious though as we get into the next few decades, since I think for the first time with its current ... whoever "owns" the company, it's someone not from the original family which created and owned Nintendo since its inception making Hanafuda cards. Though I believe he married into the family so maybe not yet. But with the very hierarchal nature of Japanese companies I wouldn't be surprised if an introduction of foreign elements like someone not raised by the same family might have some considerable echoes down the chain of command and shake up the company's values and sensibilities. I don't really care about stock or market value but I'd be worried that they might dent their reputation and game quality if they start straying too far from how they have always done business.

tomorrow i'm going to attempt to make some kind of baked zucchini thing a spinach and zucchini lasagna, essentially in place of the pasta the idea is to make a low-carb lasagna-esque meal i think simply subbing the pasta for thinly lengthwise sliced zucchini, and including cooked spinach in a thicker-than-normal sauce should do the trick i might try to incorporate larger chunks of tomato rather than puree'ing them we'll see how it turns out there's no way it'll be bad, i'm just wondering if it can actually hold its own against a lasagna

Man I'm going to feel good when I finally get to sleep tonight. I managed to fall asleep and wake up around times I want to this morning but it was still a rough transition down from sleeping like ten or eleven hours at once, and my body wasn't quite ready for it so I woke myself up a bit too early and have been a bit of a tired state all day. So at least the sleep tonight ought to be easy.
Though I'm expecting to get an early wake-up call tomorrow morning since I need to set the bins out for garbage collection.

Schools are set to start in maybe a week or so, I think. That'll be the real test of how well we've handled it so far up here. Infection cases have been in the like 20-25 of new cases in Toronto, which considering our population, is pretty good. Schools are petri dishes for infective diseases though so if there's a time something will go wrong, it's once schools are open again.
My mom works in elementary school so that'll instantly increase the risk she has of catching it. Fortunately I think she's working with grade threes this year instead of kindergarteners and lower grades like she's done a lot of in the past. They're still dumbass kids but at least by that age they might be sentient enough to know how to adhere to basic disease prevention.
I can't really get tested either which is the most frustrating part By the time I have the answer it'll be so late that having the answer will be worthless!

The indifference to pandemic infrastructure down there is really dumb. My mother went to get tested, not for work, but because she was visiting a friend who's fighting with cancer and she got her results back in a timely fashion Like social distancing and other pandemic etiquette helps a bunch with being able to no longer be on pandemic shutdown, but so is people actually being able to know if they're infected or not. They might be more willing to patron a business or eat out if they knew they weren't gonna risk infecting people. Plus knowing you're healthy is a confidence booster to begin with.
If you have insurance here, you can find out the results in maybe 3 or 4 days. But I don't currently have insurance! So it'll take me three weeks to get the results.
I can buy a home testing kit from LabCorp for $120 though. They only take 2 days on average to report results after they get my shit in the mail. But even then that's going to take me a week or more, since it has to come in the mail, get sent back, and then that 2 day wait.
And since so many people are already not working... If I quarantine right now, the center will have to shut down. It'll be impossible to maintain our treatment. I'm holding together two programs right now. Covering a lot of stuff. One of my colleagues was sobbing earlier because of how overworked she is right now due to this.

Only major critique I have for Lovecraft Country is the CGI is a bit clunky in its immersion into the film scene. Like it doesn't really look bad with the weird shit but that's probably in part because it was a lot of fast-moving objects and took place in the dark.
