I was reading a long-form article on the anthrax mailing scare earlier today and when you started up talking about sending back an envelope I got a bit scared, hah hah. I guess they've got some auto-reminder catch they've got you on since it's been a while since you used their services.
ζ

go, I think you've got a pretty reasonable case for doing so on that. Like I have considerable doubt that you'd be the only applicant uncomfortable with a therapist of a paparticular gender. So if they're making that mistake than even beyond your situation, it's an error of indifference/incompetence they really should fix.
>>753855 it was negligence. i kept informing them of it and they said okay sure, but then kept assigning me to a male therapist either through miscommunications or straight up not knowing that the one they assigned me to was male and when i told him about it he's just like "i see why that would be frustrating" but urged me to continue anyway and wouldn't relinquish me over to someone else i could have gone around him and done it a fifth time but i didn't see the point i had already wasted two weeks of my time, money, and energy by two weeks i mean four since i went two weeks apart for two sessions. two sessions, but a month of time that could have been spent moving forward at a crucial time, or would have been better spent not doing anything than by doing that. it makes me so mad to think about. it probably doesn't sound like a big deal but it really was a big emotional investment i made im so angry about it

Yeah that always gets me too. It was particularly dreary as well, over the later bit of the last week. Combined with the anxieties I've got buzzing around it made Thursday in particular a pretty rough day.
It's not even winter yet and I'm already looking forward to next summer.
>>754240 I like this cold and I hate the summer These hills look better with some thick clouds rolling over them Love that moist smell in the air after it's done raining Also I think the greenery looks nicer in the rain with those nice little random creeks that form around them I would extend it forever if I could
Moon you play any matches in that special dora dora room It's kind of fun. Like the whacky special room tournament matches.

>>754245 i played one match of it when it came out it seemed neat but i wanted out of it by east 4th or so and i had to stick it out the whole way through even though i didn't wantt o // to play it anymore if i could host a lobby of it and then invite friends it'd be more fun i don't get any enjoyment at all out of playing fun silly modes alongside people with whom i have no rapport, though
i wish dora starting count was a tournament lobby option i could set
>>754246 yeah it's not the sort of thing I'd play often with randos having a chat function might hel alleviate it a bit. Even with random people from /vg/ I could at least post in the thread and call someone a motherfucker I don't understand why I can't just set up the same rules in a friendly match
Even so though, I do enjoy seeing big numbers and three uradora slots
ζ
it's hard with randos because there's no real throughput there like if it's already silly mode and i wanna double down on that by just kanning and really raising the stakes with us all making big hands, but then some random fuck is calling open tan yaos and not riiching with 3+ ura dora, pushing through the rounds 2000 points at a time like it's a regular match, why am i even playing the bonus mode? one guy might be playing it just to play a casual match without penalty for losing, one guy might be trying to play it for the bonus mode it is, one guy might be trying to use it to farm event challenges, one guy might be tryharding in a bonus room since he feels slighted from his ranked matches
like it just ends up rubbing me the wrong way, as opposed to me hopping in a thread and saying "GET IN LETS HAVE FUN" like then we're all on the same page beforehand, and the things you want to enjoy about the mode are shared amongst each other instead of fighting each other to satisfy your own solo pursuits of enjoyment
>>754248 >one guy might be playing it just to play a casual match without penalty for losing, one guy might be trying to play it for the bonus mode it is, one guy might be trying to use it to farm event challenges, one guy might be tryharding in a bonus room since he feels slighted from his ranked matches I wasn't really thinking about that, but it's true Sometimes if there's nothing on the line, it makes me wonder if it's rude to take it seriously, or if it's rude to not take it seriously It's more random and silly, but on some level it's still a game with an objective. Like I might try to pull an open tanyao to prevent some guy from getting a kazoe yakuman, but everyone else might not even have that same objective of winning in the first place
>>754250 Yeah it'd be nice if it stuck around and we could see a real meta revolve around it. There'd be some interesting risk assessment in between trying to block big hands or just avoiding direct hits from them, in a situation where even a tsumo could potentially shadowrealm someone Unfortunately it seems like it'll be killed on the 9th
ζ
i love the idea of the game mode though. if it sticks around, i think in time it can form a little more cohesive of a following where people have better understanding and expectations of what's involved in treating it as its own mode as it is, some people, like crazy wafel for instance, dig through it with the "What's the best strategy for this kind of game mode?" and take it pretty seriously in a fun way, but there's a lot of people also just "oh new mode! lots of dora okay im shooting for 10+ dora every round" just kind of treating it like novelty, you know? which it kind of still is at the moment.
that's just how it is when stuff is new. i think it'll get better and better over time, but idk if they plan on keeping it around or if it's just a temporary thing it's like customs in age of empires or dota or shit, that it starts getting to be its own serious thing once people spend the time to understand it
ζ
something i thought was funny though was how many people were having trouble getting chiitoitsu i feel like i get at least one chiitoi per match, or at least tenpai for it. it's a really natural result of just playing reserved with moderate resource management i went to a lobby and two guys joined saying they were trying to get chiitoi so they just kept trying for it over and over and it was kind of funny i got two in a row in the east round, both dealt into, one was a baiman, in that masters+ game i was inviting you to last night
i think challenges like that can screw people up a lot because they're trying specifically to do that instead of what they need for the game it's fine i guess but it's funny watching people actually -try- to make chiitoi. me and another sprouted person went to a lobby to help two guys get it, we would just deal out all our pairs, then autodeal and wait for their tenpai and deal in. but like three rounds in a row the match ended in 4x noten even though we were streamlining their hand progression haha
ζ
one guy was even like, "... i got zero pairs that round" i dont even know how it cracks me up thinking about how he managed that
Stuff like that makes me want to actually believe in flow You don't hunt down specific yaku, they come to you and you take advantage of them It's probably just something to do with stats or the way he was playing, but getting zero pairs while actively aiming for chiitoitsu makes me imagine that the god of luck felt like fucking with this guy
ζ
>>754253 i was thinking about it and it must be such a mind fuck like, you've got 13 tiles right? say none of them you start with are pairs. what's your game plan? you got nothin to go off of unless people deal tiles you got, so do you switch it up or just stay with the ones you got? i bet every time he changed out a tile, he would draw the matching tile to the one he just discarded. but when he'd keep his tiles, he'd never draw them again what can you even do about that? you're helpless
>>754254 In a normal match, you might be able to make some sort of guess at which tiles remain in the wall based on other peoples discards Like if you see 4 of the 8man out, you can deduce that it's unlikely for anyone to be holding the 9man since they can't form a run with it anymore But if everyone's going for chiitoitsu, what can you do, right? >he would draw the matching tile to the one he just discarded This is the most frustrating thing Especially if you discard a tile that already has two out Then you draw the remaining one
ζ
i feel like my hands all naturally progress towards chiitoi as a result of pinfu + optimization ideally every hand would start out as a more spread out pinfu, then slowly converge to ippeiko, and then ryanpeikor ryanpeiko is just a very organized chiitoitsu afterall. a lot of my hands end being like 2 or 3 tiles off of ryanpeiko, but it's surprisingly hard to actually get before the game ends. i think ive got maybe three of them total. the dream hand is just chinitsu ryanpeiko tanyao that's how every hand would end up if allowed to be fully optimized from a disorganized point continuously. junchan would be better but there's discontinuity there as you break your sets apart instead of converge them. there are just too many branching paths which you're more likely going to stumble into given the randomness of drawing, which once drawn make that new path obviously more efficient. chiitoi tends to run parallel to these paths but just with a less likelihood of hooking onto that diverging path of getting the fifth pair once that happens though it's just a really safe place to be as you stay 1-shanten for either chiitoi or pinfu setups, and sometimes even can catch a toitoi tenpai if a helpful discard comes out
>>754297 Look I was just mentally setting myself up for a pleasant surprise when I realised it was so much cheaper

in joker, only like 10 people were in the theater and most of them were families so it worked out only one guy looked suspicous and i sat where i could see him if i needed to monitor him
Anno
>>754376 >engineering our schooling system to give kids ptsd aren't the constant threat of school shootings enough
back in the good old days when nobody ever had a sense of safety, ptsd was super rare everyone was just living their best lives until comfort had to come and ruin it
>>754377 What qualifies someone as looking suspicious? It's actually pretty impressive that you'd be able to pick out enough details about someone in a dark cinema to tell something like that
>>754378 Not every school is rich enough to afford an active shooter We need constant pressure to perform academically too, and harsh social punishments for failure That'll teach those lil shits to never keep their guard down
>>754381 That sounds like a tiring way to live Do you look for the same sorts of tells when you're doing therapy Like if you think a client is lying about a drug test
>>754380 A lot of things. Body movements, gait, choice of words, contextual behavior, what they're wearing, how they're sitting, badges, pins, all kinds of things.
The lights are on in the theater until the movie starts which gives me time to see what's up. The families came in after the movie started but I could see them move around which told me the composition of their group, and the way they interacted with each other suggested it was unlikely any were a threat.
I have PTSD and some training from FBI special agents which helps me do stuff like this. I also live in Florida so every day is even more a test of risk assessment skills. I am also lucky enough to have decent low light vision so I can identify body movements somewhat accurately in a dark theater.
>>754380 My point-of-care urine drug screens have validity indicators for temperature and then we get Ph, creatinine, and specific gravity from the lab, so I dont usually have to figure that out, honestly. I do look out for lies and stuff in therapy, but mostly because it indicates a client isn't ready to talk about that yet. I'm mostly looking out for danger and most of our clients are people I feel safe around with one or two exceptions. Plus at work, we have a 16 year marine spec ops sniper with literally like 100 confirmed kills and muscles thicker than my skull which makes me feel safer. There are enough people at work with crisis skills that I feel comfortable that I won't be taken off-guard if something starts. My primary concern is being prepared for whatever starts and being able to respond effectively.
For the most part, I trust my clients completely and just look for signs of resistance.
The way it really works isn't that I look for tells, but that someone gives me a bad eel and then I examine them more closely to find traits which justify my suspicions. I don't have to examine everyone closely, I just sort of skim through people and trust my intuition to tell me what I need to look out for.
Maria
>>754383 so then it's like an alert, and you just have to figure out which detail you noticed to confirm it
Essentially, yeah. And sometimes I get worse eels than others depending on the person. It all depends. Sometimes I can tell there's something really wrong with someone but not in a dangerous way as well but that mostly happens in a cinical setting.
One thing I don't like about having cops around is that they're unpredictable. They're making the same evaluations as me at some level but they're more tense and likely to react without a full evaluation. They also make tons of suspicious movements. Are they putting their hand on their firearm because they just rest their hand there? Are they feeling threatened? Do they want to intimidate someone? Is it a warning? There's no way to know what evaluation they've made of the room, but you know that a response is possible and you can't predict that response. It puts me on edge.
Plus you can't depend on a cop to protect you in an active situation. They become erratic in a firefight and often accidentally hit bystanders.
Maria
Do you think that the way you think so cautiously is a logically correct method to take in your daily circumstances or do you think it's, I'm sure the word isn't delusional or irrational but something close to that

>>754387 I don't know. Im somewhat comfortable with my hypervigilance because I've had it for so long and it makes me feel safe. I can't give an answer that isn't biased by that.
