>They were learning to commit crime as part of the family activity. It's what they did. Rooster Bogle would take his sons out once a week or so to visit a prison near Salem, Oregon where they lived, a great, big prison on the outskirts of the city, and point to the prison and say, "Look carefully, boys, because when you grow up, this is where you're going to live."
They didn't take that as a warning. They took that as a dare, and they figured that was what they were supposed to do.
Kirara, M.S.
>In the resulting book, In My Father's House: A New View of How Crime Runs in the Family it sounds interesting but i am very much bothered by this
FormerRei@mobile
It follows a specific family.
Kirara, M.S.
>When I talked to some criminologists about it, their feeling was that a lot of American criminologists are almost afraid to focus on the family as a cause of crime because, until very recently, you would have been accused of being a racist if you suggested that there was a family connection or a biological or genetic connection to crime. this is also patently false
>>584334 which is why it's not a "new view of how crimes runs in the family" that title implies a new criminological theory which this cannot and should not be
family was more-or-less ignored for the past 20-30 years because it was considered a done deal we had social learning theories to explain the family's impact this guy doesn't know what he's talking about at all
i have been to and presented symposia at criminological conferences lmao this guy probably should have gone and actually met the people doing that work and tried to learn something

Anno
There's a pretty sizeable spider out in the front of my house. Well sizeable for 'round here at least. I wanted to take a picture of it but my phone's battery has been being really buggy if it gets too cold. And letting it charge for a bit will probably kill my interest in taking a picture.
i got a text from fish saying she wanted me to wear a ring so i thought she was agreeing to marry me but she just wants me to wear a ring so people don't hit on me???
Anno
Well it does turn off some people. Others though it only inspires them more.
I've tweaked the difficulty on Odyssey from Nightmare down to Hard. It's partially because the escort quests are absolutely hopeless on it. I see an enemy rushing the escortee and before I can turn my body around they've already ran a sword through the escortee.
Kirara, M.S.
i figured out how to do conquest combat with an assassin build
Kirara, M.S.
the third tier had a skill that does 60-100% of assassin damage and you can use it in combat so you can basically play defensively to gain adrenaline and then just slam people with like 10-20k damage
Anno
Yeah, I saw that one. Didn't think to get it since I got the charged assassination skill. Which pretty much allows you to assasinate any enemy around your skill level even on Nightmare as long as they're not a bounty hunter. I didn't expect to hit one of these conquest fights so shortly afterwards, hah hah.
Kirara, M.S.
haha yeah the conquest fights can be pretty rough if you're invading but you get good loot
the loot doesn't super mater though because you get legendary equipment from [redacted] assassinations
I've been joining Twitch streamers for Dragalia and things have gotten much easier in terms of finding people to play with But now I have run into the stamina problem...
I found a cool precursor-y ruin on an island. They had a neat trick set up where a bit of floor gives way on you on your way to a normal treasure chest and the space in the underneath is too smooth to be natural cave wall. And then after a long dive into a caldera there's a bunch of ruined glowy pillars. I love unexpected exploration like this.
>>584460 that's really cool i found some precursor-y ruin where there was this really big door and as i approached it, it sounded like something massive slammed into the door, and kassandra was like "yikes! what was that?!" but i couldn't get in yet but there was somewhere i could look through the door and it looked like a really big cave area i bet there's some kind of crazy fight like a cyclops or something
i'm gonna play without the in game map and use the physical map and the directions people give me to find stuff i'm really excited full immersion modo
Anno
It's a really cool concept. I'm hoping with games like Odyssey and RDR2 doing stuff like that, it might incentivize other developers to offer it as an option again. Like imagine Bethesda going back to offering navigation like that for the eventual Elder Scrolls VI. I'd be so fucking on board.
Kirara, M.S.
it feels like after so many years of games making everything incredibly casual, devs are finally realizing that you can give everyone what they want by having a casual mode and an exploration mode
even spider-man actually had some parts where you only had vague ideas of where something was (e.g. north harlem by a bridge) and you had to swing around and find the right bridge
im having another fight with fish i guess she wants me to wear a ring so people don't give me their number and i told her the only way im wearing a ring is if she marries me and she's acting like im being unreasonable like, if // you can't sit there and act like that if you're not willing to do the same like, my girlfriend wants me to pretend to be married instead of just marrying me? what's with that? it's really not fair to me we were arguing about it so i told her im done talking about it and id talk to her tomorrow it's so weird she's been really weird about our relationship since i asked her to marry me it's like she wants me to be married to her but she doesn't want to go to the same length i don't understand it and she won't communicate with me about it either
this relationship is the only thing keeping me connected to civilization i love her but i can't keep living like this and if it's going to go bad, then im probably just going to fuck off to a forest
It does feel like you get prepositioned a fair bit though. If she has some insecurity concerns I can kind of see how she might be worried about losing you because of that.
I dunno man relationships aren't exactly my area of expertise. I personally though would rather you stay connected to civilization so if her relationship with you is the only thing keeping you around I'd rather you stay in it. So there's a selfish voice saying to me that wearing a ring isn't a big deal if it makes her happy. And unless you enjoy the prepositions I don't see how it's really a detraction from your daily life. The meanings of things like this are wholly what you make of it, and that, to me at least, means it's not really a big deal to wear one.
That and if you start thinking the relationship's going to go south, I feel it's going to create a self-fulfilling prophecy. Which if it's what you want, okay, but.
I do agree that if she wants you to bear a symbol of commitment she should make a similar effort. It'd be nice if you could at least both agree to an engagement.
FormerRei@mobile
I think I finally going to start playing a gacha game. Maybe
>>584490 i can't be the only one working in this relationship that's just not how relationships work i desperately need this relationship and im just worried that she's going to wreck it with her little weird things because she won't talk about them every fight we've had since she got back has been because she's being weird and unreasonable it's so stressful
FormerRei@mobile
Health Health wise how is she doing?
Kirara, M.S.

I usually get a front row seat so it's not as relaxing

Unless by front row seat you mean outside in the storm, I dunno. As long as I'm dry it's a soothing experience for me. Even in a car in torrential rain is kind of nice, providing I'm not the one driving through it, hah hah.
Anno
Oh joy I forgot my washing was on the line I guess I was talking about how close and loud the bolts get to the house I don't know if living on the hill makes you exposed to more strikes but I still don't like when you get those ones where it sounds like it was 100m or so away
I should fetch a copy of Isle of Dogs, I completely forgot about that movie
Anno
Yeah, if it's out of theatres I'd be interested in seeing what it's about. There's a couple movies I'd like to maybe watch if I have the time this week.
>>584540 Oh no, sorry, I know what the synopsis is. I meant more like to its quality.
It was that Wes Anderson film from a while ago It's set in Japan, where a dog flu outbreak forces the dogs of the city to be sent to a trash Isle for quarantine Our protagonist flies over to the Isle to search for his dog
Anno
I've never seen a Wes Anderson movie either. Though a few of them have been ones that piqued my interest at the time.
Anno
I vaguely remember seeing The Life Aquatic Fantastic Mr Fox is really good though and Isle of Dogs is done in that vein From what I can remember it was received pretty well Even the Japanese speakers are done well despite the complaint of no subbing
Anno
Fantastic Mr. Fox looked really neat to the young me when it came out in theatres. But I never saw it since I haven't really ever done a lot of theatre-going. Other than that I know a few of his movies by name but I've never seen any of them.

Cause the player likes playing "noble" like characters. Like a knoght that can never attack first. Or that same knight who can't take a flanking bonus. Or literally the knight class in 3.5 which isn't very good and he shouldn't have picked it for his class.
At your current state fighting either of them would be tantamount to suicide except one of them can't fight you without it being nonlethal and self-defense.

Yeah. Though I think they are, if that is aimed at the fan complaints, missing the point as far as I have heard of the topic. Most people complain changing the characters THEY know and are familiar with to fit modern stuff, rather than introducing new characters that fit those models
well their sales are dropping, but the question really is, is it because of their treatment of fans and >>584920 said kind of stuff or just because all print media sales in the west are dropping

You should watch Double Decker if you've got time Kirara. The main oji-san is a commie that wants to eliminate class and poverty from the world. Though he's also on a special police task force hah hah.
Getting to interact with Herodotus in Odyssey is pretty great. This guy was the first "real" historian of the western world, more interested in telling the stories of the past as actual events and not tales of myth.
>>585109 unfortunately, we've gone right back to telling stories and myths instead of real history, haha

Pretty much. Maybe this whole affair is what makes him get over telling myths and want to talk about REAL HISTORY.
