>>532654 → yeah that'd be neat im not talkin anything ML though just a simply written program i'm a little bit tired of the neural net meme because it's getting used in places that it doesn't need to be used it's actually inappropriate for a lot of things that would be better served by a retaining program that doesn't obfuscate all the data less resource intensive just to write some feed-in and have it automated i don't imagine it'd actually like be profitable in any fashion (though cool if so) but i really just want to flood youtube with the most lazy kind of stuff

Splatoon's single player campaign was pretty decent for a game that's entirely based on its multiplayer content. Some good ol' creatively aggravating Nintendo 3D platforming.
月
does splatoon have a replay system are the matches recorded
Anno
Information is pulled, I think, but they don't record the games in-system. And by information, if I remember correctly, it's limited to how well you perform with certain weapons or weapons types, and a record of your win/loss history.
月
ah so just the stats not like how dota stores all the inputs and states and reconstructs the replay
Anno
Yeah, nothing nearly that elaborate. Professional tournaments probably get the casts uploaded to YouTube, but I don't really know how they handle that. I don't know if there's even like a free camera the casters can use to get an overview shot, but considering the shortcuts Nintendo probably has in to get the maps as nice looking as they are, they probably don't want a camera to go sneaking about being able to see at -all the ugly bits.
月
i just happened to be thinking what games do that like dota does i was thinking about ways to strip that data and procedurally map it to a different platform like having the dota replays with low-scale models representing positions and very simplified graphics just something really dumb like that
Anno
I think Starcraft handles replays the same way. Or in an extremely similar way at least. It records every movement and action taken by every unit over the course of the match. Which is kind of funny for replays because occasionally it doesn't record those actions accurately, and a single blip in the recording can completely throw off the reconstruction.
月
well stuff gets updated so the reconstruction gets fucked
i'd like something where i could pull just huge amounts of replays but have the information already parsed from the visuals it'd be really easy to change the visuals of how something is mapped or to feed state information into a machine but to train a machine to process visual data to then make sense of what's happening in the game is an impossible task
Anno
Splatoon 2 recently got a DLC which after beating, you get to use new octopus-based characters if you want, instead of the series' traditional squid-based characters. And each month they run these global competitions, where they let the users pick one of two sides and duke it out in the game to determine a winning side. In-universe the winner of the competition is "legally" better than the other.
So this month to celebrate the DLC, they're letting players pick between the two races you can now play as. For the in-universe reward of being superior to the other.
It's amusing to wonder if Nintendo understood the full ramifications of what they were doing here.
Ko-Shi
And now the upcoming splatfest is a race war
月
what i had in mind was to automatically and procedurally upload various short clips of replays to youtube of any game would really work i might do dota but it's less satisfying not like tournament highlights or meaningful clips, literally just random clips from random pubs
im tryna think of the most useless videos i can possibly make brainstorming session any ideas
Anno
>Marina: An octopus could be hiding right under your nose right now and YOU'D NEVER KNOW
Anno
I had kind of figured it might be that she was undercover but man, Pearl is thick as ROCKS.
The amount of creative depth in Splatoon is ridiculously astounding. They've got whole fashion brands and have populated their squidkid metropolis with popular bands the kids listen to, celebrities they follow, stores they worship. It makes it pretty neat.
月
it's probably a good thing i don't have a switch i would probably get way too into that stuff
Anno
The multiplayer is refreshing. Each match runs only like five or six minutes so you can just run a few and then put the system down, or marathon a whole bunch of matches. There's a ranking system too, though the game rules for ranked is different from the casual games. And there's a bunch of maps they rotate through, only having two per game mode up each cycle, so it pays to both be familiar and flexible.
Plus the dress-up content in the game is huge.
Sorry I've been binging the game a bit in the past week or so when I'm not playing ONI. I think it's just all around a really solid game.
Anno

月
>>532740 right now, to watch a replay of a dota match for instance, you gotta download one specific match and then are confined to the sequence of events from that match you don't really know what's in there there's a big time investment to accessing information contained within
im thinkin about how useful it would be to just have broad replay data available inspecific to matches and have search metrics that retrieves relevant segments of replays like a particular gradient // particular direction in a gradient function for any given metric in the game then such a database could just recall relevant clips in a non-cumbersome fashion and you could thumb through generic replay information rather than watching through it visually
idk that's actually really useful and i wanted something absolutely useless dunno why im goin on about it
Anno
>>532742 Oh yeah maybe. I haven't really been paying attention to the Nintendo Online features so maybe that's something they're planning.
Anno
>>532743 Yeah, once you have some manner of sorting a database of clips you could use it to pick out specific clips demonstrating a skill, like a fighting game combo, or a specific item/ability combo in DotA. Like having a fifteen second clip of Meepo blink/hex/poofing/root on some poor sod is way more accessible than looking at a full fifty-minute game recording where he does it. If only for the availability of replaying it without having to needle the match timer.
月
im really not good at using my words right but yeah specifically there aren't like actual video clips, but just raw replay data then you can designate some metrics like hero position, speed, interactions with the environment, even something random like fog of war or creep position, or mainstream like gpm so you can see high gradients where there's big swings but the useless stuff like creep position really interests me it seems pretty ordinary, it's mostly always the same roughly but if there's some really anomalous event in there and you've got creeps being aggroed and then stuck in trees that just respawned at that moment, or creeps wandering way to the wrong lane it's the kinda stuff you'd be like "huh i wanna see what's goin on here" and just reconstruct it from there
and then have a youtube channel that's all just automatically-processed replays that are procedurally uploaded of anomalous things that happen like really spammy amounts of videos 20 or 30 thousand of 15 second clips of random events like that or like z axis position of heroes and when something is happening that doesn't normally happen when a unit is airborne
月
sorry not meaning to override the squiddery with my nonsense
月
that's just an example though, the replay thing im trying to think up ways to automatically and procedurally generate youtube videos of particularly mundane things another thought was to probe through current news feeds, take some of the main information about the event and procedurally grab related images of the subject through google images, put the written content through text to speech, and upload the news piece as a video then auto translate to various other languages and also upload them in those languages with the title also in that language
any other ideas about really generic things what's the most generic thing you can think of
Anno
Uh. Probably 1cm3 of plastic.

Life is absurd a beautiful, painful, affair with no apparent meaning
sk
I'm just glad there's no meaning Whatever the meaning would be, most of us wouldn't be able to reach it so
Kirara 🚗
Reach it in what way?
sk
Well if there's a meaning, then we're a cog, supposed to do something But the way things are, I don't think many people would be able to fill their role
Kirara 🚗
Are we cogs if we can choose whether or not to fulfill our intended purpose?
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
We're not cute enough to be cog
sk

sk
Maybe, but then what relevance does the decided meaning of life have for anyone? It doesn't matter
Kirara 🚗
People do have meaning in their lives, just not inherent meaning. We're all looking for and creating meaning
sk
But the inherent meaning is the only thing we can really share The rest comes from within the person themselves
sk
Like when someone asks what the meaning of life is, they aren't looking for "To do right by others" or something, that's something you do because you want to do it on its own grounds

The only real issue there is they can't all be secure But it does let them actually make really good stuff, too

The real issues -issue is that almost every animation studio wants to be in Tokyo. Or the supermetropolis surrounding it. You look at studios like KyoAni which is local to Kyoto. They pay their animators very, very well comparatively, and do all their animation in-house. Because residing out in Kyoto there's both the office and living space out there without gouging your employees wallets.
Maria
would anime studios make more or less money if they stopped selling 100$ blu rays?
>>532966 less they tried it in the early 2000s and sold the same amount of copies bc buying anime is niche and there's only a core audience that buys DVDs and BDs
A lot of studios are break aways or subsidiaries of larger production companies. A few of them are from large corporations : Toei Animation and Sunrise at noticable ones. Mushi Pro spawned loads of animation studios from ex-employees: Shaft, Pierrot, Madhouse, Kyoto Animation,
Silver link was from former shaft employees Xebec is // and Wit Studio are from Production I.G

I remember back in the days when all the kids used Skype, I accidentally dragged a completely unrelated friend of mine into a chat group of weeaboo because laptop trackpads are horrible for doing anything accurately. That was wholly embarassing.
I haven't done that in skype but in MSN, I was always accidentally nudging and adding people in conversations accidentally it was super unpleasant anxiety

One of my friends got cast out of their family this morning because they showed up on the front page of the paper with yesterday's protest. RIP.
I'm not in any of the media photos. Although I might have been shown on the video news for half a second.
>>533057 How divided must a culture be politically, if they cast out their OWN FLESH AND BLOOD due to political differences?
I kinda get the reasoning behind "kid is gay, cast them out", even if it is completely wrong. But here?
Kirara 🚗
yeah, their family wants to try to take away their kid too like literally for protesting in front of a company that's illegally holding children hostage?
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
Even taking aside the overblows, they still are keeping thousands of kids away friom their parents, parents who just will be deported and somewhat quickly in most cases ofc, there are many kids who cross the border alone
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
but still protesting for the right of kids should never cause that kind of reaction, even if it was something completely different and was proven to be false information, the person is there for the right of kids misinformed, mislead, but still thinking they are doing it for the right and good causes no reason to excommunicate them
Kirara 🚗
i also feel like my friend should have anticipated this potentially happening very poor planning on their part
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
Yeah I guess if you have that kind of family, you should be aware of it
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
but I doubt I would get cast out even if I appeared on a nazi rally though i would get huge amount of bullshit for it well not bullshit, but shit

I don't sweat much. I also avoid getting dirty as often as I can. Even then I did used to shower pretty much every other day, but once I started getting bouts of depression any decent habit went out the window. It's not like I enjoy not showering, but habits are really hard to rebuild when you don't have any discipline.
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
taking care of yourself is key to stability always
Anno
Yeah but there's a catch-22 in that it's easy to become more stable once you have a bit of stability. But if you don't have any stability it's just about impossible to start the ball rolling. I -had- good hygiene habits before I started dealing with depression, but all my stability fell apart once that started. It's hard to attain the keys to stability when instability is working day and night to ensure they remain out of your grasp.

there's never a point where there's only high level stuff there are always green ones
sk
But all the places keep going up in level?
Kirara 🚗
yeah but that's the level of the place, not the level of the mission missions are green for lvl1, yellow/orange for lvl 3, or red for lvl5
the location level is related to your progress there as it increases, you gain access to new bosses
sk
...are those not related?
Kirara 🚗
they're not related to difficulty really, no although higher level means harder bosses
Kirara 🚗
when you have lvl 2 or 3 heroes in your roster, you start seeing orange missions and those have new enemies and are harder but more rewarding

what about, playing scrabble? i got no time to reinvent scrabble soz gotta show my bro a good time
FormerRei@mobile
I found an existing scrabble thing in js that would work with slight modification. Maybe I'll do the modifications. The tl;dr is that the person who made it forked it off of a scrabble game in js that didn't have a working server thing, but in the fork he took out the dictionary that checks if its a proper word or not. So all it would need is that feature.
oh cool maybe i should come out and show him a good time too )))

Kirara 🚗
>>533548 they stole that art from the gods it cannot be for mortal eyes
You don't chew with your canines, you chew with your molars, which employ the flatter tops of the teeth to grind things down. Which is more efficient than repeatedly stabbing sharp points into a thing when it comes to breaking the thing down.
As far as weapons go, the human face is fairly ineffectual when it comes to biting as a weapon. We don't have the snout or elongated faces of other creatures that are much safer to bit with.
sk
Humans are fucking trash at combat, goddamn
Kirara 🚗
that's because we generally use weapons to hunt and our ancestors mostly ate small monkeys, rats, and plants
Anno
Yeah, we didn't evolve dextrous upper bodies just to go back to biting things.
sk
You're forcing me to imagine primal man beating a monkey to death with his bare fists, and I'm for it
Kirara 🚗
no, they'd be like rat-sized monkeys you can see the same behavior in apes today
sk
Oh, tiny monkeys
sk
Is there a known reason why we like, bite our cheeks and stuff on purpose like, as a tic? tick? I'm not sure which is right
Kirara 🚗
because we're imperfect and our bodies allow for it, which means the behavior can be reinforced and maintained
Anno
Tic
Anno
I think biting cheeks can also tickle the same feelings that typical oral fixations do too.
sk
We have to modify the human body It sucks

well it was a massive supervolcano eruption 70k years ago that caused the earth to cool for like 1000 years and we're all descended from like 10k survivors or fewer there was a population bottleneck which affects the rate of evolution and adaptation considerably
FormerRei@mobile
SK You should read on the origin of species.
sk
I'm not sure that'd be very interesting I only really have a passing interest in this kinda stuff
Kirara 🚗
reading on the origin of species is pretty essential for anarchism imo it and mutual aid are probably the best arguments for anarchism from a material and evolutionary standpoint
sk
But there's already Kropotkin, right? He's got some books about this too

"Nothing helps babies go to sleep like jock jams"
Kirara 🚗
>>533612 he wrote mutual aid, yes it was written in 1912 or published rather which is only like 40 years after on the origin of species and like 20 years after the conception of social darwinism
FormerRei@mobile
My favorite part in the book is where he throws the iguanas off of the cliff and into the ocean.
>>533616 Well it really was for science Cause the iguanas were afraid of him, but when he cornered them at the shore they'd refuse to go into the water, if he threw one in it would swim back to the shore and still be cornered So they could swim (and do) but were afraid of the ocean (even though its where they get their food) I think it had something to do with them being more afraid of sharks than humans
sk
>>533614 It's cool how social darwinism was what a lot of people went with as their take, and still continue to, after Darwin wrote his thing Never underestimate the ability of the powerful
Kirara 🚗
>>533618 social darwinism isn't a theory of evolution take it's an addition in the same way mutual aid is it was a new theory that was written explicitly by someone other than Darwin and perpetuated
i think knowing the historical context of all this stuff is as important as knowing what the stuff is
>>533617 yeah but he also hated iguanas and talked a ton of shit about them and called them disgusting and stuff he was so mad
FormerRei@mobile
I'm still irritated about how many anti evolution people there were in my Darwin course.
Kirara 🚗
almost all of my high school teachers were creationists
>>533629 It's not like they're in control, is what I mean What's an activist group to a megachurch?
Kirara 🚗
in control of what we've had libraries for a long time, free ones we have the internet megachurches don't affect people's lives, btw, idk if you knew that they very rarely have any impact outside of maybe having a tv show
sk
But curiosity and openness to new information has to be fostered If it's actively discouraged, then of course people won't be open to finding out true things
Maria
reminder that the ice all theory is real and the governments don't want you finding the other ponds
Kirara 🚗
at the protest, people were chanting "no ICE, no wall, CHS has got to fall" and all i could think about was the ice wall
sk
What's CHS?
FormerRei@mobile
DHS but typoed
sk
I dunno what that is either

as an aside, nicole stark in the first paragraph is my friend that got disowned by her family for being at the protest she forgot to use her alias when talking to the reporter lol
