That's a weird predicament for me. Milk running out in my house is treated as a pretty high emergency. More late night rushings out to the store have been undertaken for the sake of milk than any other neccessity in my family.

I finally got a cable for my headphones which isn't stupid-long over the weekend. Instead of being like three or four metres long like the one that came with my headphones, this one is only a metre and change. Which means I can take my headphones with me when I'm out and about without stuffing a pocket full of cable. It also has the added bonus of fitting within my phone case, so I can keep my phone encased and listen to stuff on it at the same time.

I'm sure the whirlpool was deeply grateful for your applause.
didn't fit the series at all and I question its existense as it was 95% anime original crap yeah the poppa did visit yeah it was brief drama but something like 5 mins and over and 1 chapter long
I would have rather they'd adapted the Iruru part for the finale of the season. I kind of get the anime adaption is kind of pulling a lot more out of the themes of family and co-habitation between people that don't necessarily get along with others easily. and that having the parallel between Tooru's blood relations versus the ones she's built with Kobayashi and Kanna is supposed to be a firm conclusion in that aspect. But they could have worked a similar moral ending with Iruru since Iruru kind of ends up daughter-tier.
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
>>350282 would have fit the series a lot more conflict some drama battoru
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
>>350282 yeah but the final episode still stuck out like a sore thumb if the series had taken a more serious stance for some or all of the episodes, it would have fit but it didn't it went with the light hearted comedy the manga and the author is famous for every damn episode so sticking that out in the final ep is just drama for the sake of drama and to have a "meaningful", though completely undesired and not asked for, finale. I call this basically the aidoru symptom, cause those kinds of shows generally have a meaningless drama for the sake of drama in the final episode(s).
Anno
how long should a story be
ToN
as long as it needs to be
Anno
thanks
Anno
Pretty much. You can tell a story in five words if you want to. Or you can take twelve-hundred pages.
Anno
why would you hyphenate 1200
Anno
that just makes it look like 12-100 like a range
Anno
I'll keep that in mind.
Anno
>>350289 The answer is because hyphens serve as context conjoiners in my mind. It's more clearly connected for me than just "twelve hundred" but isn't "twelvehundred" because English isn't a dumb language like that. And when spelling out numbers as words I tend to not use hyphens to mean a range, ever. I'd say "from twelve to a hundred" or something like that.
>>350292 yeah i got why you did i just felt raising the question does more than saying "no that's wrong" because it isn't wrong but hyphenations are really weird and sometimes i like to probe why people do things
Anno
a better question would have been why you'd use twelve hundred in text when that's just really a spoken convention anyway i think i know the answer to that one though
Hah hah, pretty much. It's not like I really think intently when writing.
Anno
if you want a less satisfying answer then i'd say it's because you use your lexical thoughtspace to interface and organize things for output it's your engine for expression it's not for me particularly since i'm compulsive and don't find words ever capture the conceptualization as well as compulsive action whether it's communicated or just internalized, it feels less meaningful as words to me
People who type out long numbers in text are annoying though especially in finland have a gander at this devil kolmesataaviisikymmentätuhattakolmesataakaksi
Anno
>>350301 Yeah, that covers a good bit of it. For as long as I remember, written words are generally what I interface best with. There's also the additional factor of, generally when writing English prose, you avoid putting numerals in the text when possible. I took that to heart a long time ago and tend to use the words instead of numerals. Until the numbers get too complex and I can't be arsed to write down "nineteen-fifty-three". Years in particular have no good reason to be written out in words.
Anno
i sure hope i don't ever feel bad about anything ever again
>>350303 in maths it's important to not just have isolated formulas and symbols part of a proper proof is to construct actual statements, meaning to write out what is happening and not just illustrating the steps so numbers, symbols, formulas, and expressions all become active components of a sentence and sentences are constructed to be as precise as necessary that doesn't mean always being precise though, as some situations lose accuracy as you add precision so i often don't overdo my sentences and just speak as it fits the context, which is sometimes vague becomes sometimes context is vague it's just expression for expression's purpose unless i have narrative intent
>>350310 would you rather write a book report on empress theresa
Anno
>>350308 My way of conversing tends to be really stream of conscious. I'm comfortable the most in writing out stuff, so I think it shows the most when I type to commuincate with people. There isn't much thought that goes into what I'm writing -- conscious thought, at least. I've got a whole bunch of hindrances when it comes to talking with people, which means that thought process gets stopped and started a lot instead of just being able to run on like it wants, which I feel only adds on to the complications with talking.
>>350315 language, especially written, is such a cumbersome and high-work channel to maintain it means you end up with a pretty slow I/O rate in exchange for higher channel volume but i've started to realize how valuable I/O speed is in communication
like, imagine if you were going to play scrabble with someone, or risk, or some other strategy game, and instead of just playing your move and them playing their move, you had to log your reasoning for making every move you did in full detail of your strategic intentions there it really would kill the immersion and that in-the-zone feeling you get from a tense game where you're just reading into each other's moves and trying to parse their intentions for yourself and strategize against it chess would've been a better example i suppose
language is a handy and helpful channel but i don't think it's a particularly intimate one some people find poetry great for that reason but i'm not real well-versed in that
That said, it was a huge bonus in multiplayer strat games to have friends you had played with for years and wells till is You arleady in general know their playstyle andw hat kind of stuff they are good at and like to do, and what do they dislike and are bad at. So you can easily work aroun your plans and they can work their plans around what they know of you, without having to say a damn thing. Not to mention having shortened lingo unique to your group, that can be just saying few words, but for someone not part of said group, would require several sentences to type out, in order to get the message through.
Anno
>>350318 same for multiplayer games that are co-op when you play with someone a whole lot and you understand their playstyle, you don't need to talk to strategize together you just read each other's movements and use your sense of opportunity and boundary to complement each other
Made us quite a force in wc3 battlenet back in the day. We easily beat up groups that used voice chat for communication between team members, despite being limtied to the ingame tped chat
Anno
when i used to coach dota teams i told them to stop using voice chat and to try just using the ping system talking takes too much attention away and some moments of opportunity are so split-second that you can't wait for confirmation you just ping and go and you're not spending your focus on a communication channel that's eating up all your sensory processing
>>350321 I bet pro esporters do this kind of stuff more. Comparing it to team sports, you can't really shout out that much to your team members between a heated match, not only would the general ruckus bury it partly, but the audience would completely bury it. So worldess communication and game-eye are high tier skills to develop early.
i find that i can think more clearly when i'm not using language for thought-construction too it only ever slowed me down and caused uncertainty for difficult concepts >>350323 yeah, they really don't use comms too much it's really a sign of poor teamplay when you can't read each other's intentions with a brief exchange of pings
someone pings an enemy to communicate to attack someone caution-pings to say "no don't someone goes in without a ping to communicate that they're not committing but just posturing double ping to bring attention to other people on the team who arent in your lane trying to talk through a strategy and overplan for something that's going to be unpredictable goes back to what i was saying about inappropriate precision you can have a great plan but ultimately you need to think on the fly, and having a communication channel with fast I/O, even if it's not a dynamic comms channel that they can respond through, is really helpful for that
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
Similiar to army structure. You can't rely on communications and line of command to be reliable, so each unit under the command of the hq, and so on to the squad level has to have some level of ability to operate without receiving constant orders Which is why a direct control from HQ is not only impossible, but actually detrimental for an operation, rather give out broad strokes and goals and secondary goals and so on to the various units taking part in the operation, and trust in the officers, subofficers and even individual soldiers to accomlish the task and challenge at hand as best as they can.
It's so weird. That man completed SUICIDE on fucking TELEVISION by drinking a vial of poison, and everyone is acting like it's not even fucking news.

I suspect that an employee of the court smuggled it in.
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
Also while they might search the suspect and his lawyer and so on there are so many people who could bring it in, who are not really searched through thatm uch, because no one would think of them smuggling in poison
Anno
>>350345 i wonder how strict off-hours access is do they have someone clean and mop the courtroom for instance tape it under the table
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
also the guy might have just a hidden pocked in his suit it was a really tiny bottle
When I was in Wyoming, the first day we went to the courthouse, the FBI agent we were with was like, "they're fine" and all we had to do was go through a metal detector.
It's probably something like that.
It's interesting that the guy used a vial of poison. Usually we see stuff like cyanide hidden in the mouth all along or something like that.
Anno
maybe he swallowed the bottle first to sneak it into the court room and then he could've simply flexed his abdomen muscles in a certain way to burst the container inside his stomach
WAIT maybe he drank something beforehand that was not poisonous but metabolized in the kidneys into a poison active on first-pass metabolism, which wouldn't occur in the bladder and then he peed into the vial during the trial and it became poison and he drank it
Anno
Jesus christ of course

MAYBE he was possessed and that's why he talked about his /// himself in the third person
I managed to get Mia today. She's -atk +res, but she's still extremely good. In fact I'm not even mad about her bad IVs because she's much bulkier and tankier than I expected from a sword fighter type unit.
>>350366 She has 28 def and 29 res. I'm tempted to try and get distant counter for her. She seems like she could be an even better sword tank than Ike.
She's a good candidate for it, especially in the case of mine since she has neutral hp and def and she's +res.
Ike has built in distant counter, and mine has 32 def and 21 res. Ike only has 31 spd though, so he can often get doubled. Mia's speed is crazy so she will almost never be doubled and will often double in return. If I were to summoner support her and give her distant counter, she'd be crazy strong.
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
>>350367 that is actually the right term to refer to them
>>350372 I'm sure that Ike will come to me in time. I will try to get together some of those campaign orbs and roll on the 8% banner before it goes away. It ends in three days, so I'll probably burn some stamina potions on saturday and compelete the rest of the story missions that I haven't, and grind some points in tempest and use those orbs on that banner.
That banner returns late december, but it may not necessarily have Ike on it.
I was also pleasantly surprised to see that we do get that ice girl for free. I guess she's on the banner for people who want to merge her or get different IVs.
I wouldn't waste a Hector on Mia, personally. Flashing Blade is an insanely good skill. Her best quality is that everything about her enables her to shit out special attacks, sometimes even twice during the enemy phase.
Getting rid of Flashing Blade would just be silly, especially considering there are other sword users with decent defense and res to tank
>>350375 I don't mind having different kits for the same character. Distant counter tanks are great for autobattle in tempest, but I do have Ike and he does a fine job at it.
Oh, my image reminded me. They buffed first bite big time with the weapon upgrades, the upgraded version gives def/res +5 to Charlotte and all units in two spaces when she attacks.
Lyn is probably the ideal distant counter sword tank. Sol Katti upgrade gives it Desperation AND Quick Riposte. +def would give her 30def and 29 res. Neutral speed is 37. B slot is free so you can put something like Vantage or Wrath there. Vantage in particular will be insanely deadly and once she's at les than 75% health, she's going to be almost untouchable.
I've never seen her set up like that but that would be a really good setup. Adult Tiki's res is only 24 neutral but I bet you could set her up as a pretty good distant counter tank now that lightning breath is so good.
I kinda hope they give us a distant counter seal or something. I know it's an insanely good skill, but something like that would help level the playing field with whales/lucky people.
You could alternatively just give him Fire Boost or something since he has so much HP. I think Distant Counter is probably the only real way to make him good, though.

I don't have any problem with sharing a book with maybe one person, but it's bad news if I get a reputation as someone that can just find any book and give it out for free by breaking the law, especially since I work with law enforcement.

...how do people die to normal enemies in this game
NieR: Automata I see bodies just get littered around in some places and I just don't understand how they lost in these scenarios. Unless they tried doing something while vastly underleveled.
Anno
I played the demo for that I'd like to think that people DON'T die to the normal enemies in that game OH, you mean the dead video game people Well imagine if those robots existed in
Anno
in real life us flesh-bodied humans wouldn't stand a chance
yeah but the dead bodies are players. You find them where they died. And whenever I see them I'm just... "how did you die here to these enemies?" Also, it mildly bothers me because it spoils certain things. You start seeing bodies in places and you're like "well, I guess I have to fight the people here at some point..."
Anno
That's lame in the original Demon's's's' Souls, it could've meant any number of things to see a player bloodstain
Also Nioh Nioh also used bloodstain as cool little lore things
Koi-
Well, there's all kinds of things that the story can do but since you're not dying from falling off a cliff in Nier:A, most dead bodies are definitely from enemies killing you. Like just now, I'm backtracking through a spot for a quest and I notice that I have to go down to a place that I've been before but nothing happened. The first time I went there, it had like seven dead bodies there. And now I just went back and I had to do a fight. Which, COULD, have been hard, I guess. But it wasn't.

i went to lunch with some people in my cohort (and fish) and as we were going to our cars to go to the restaurant this first year girl came up to us and started talking about that marathon i volunteered at because i guess she ran in it and saw me so we invited her to lunch with us and she spent the entire fucking lunch spilling her spaghetti everywhere i've never seen anything like it like right from the fucking beginning fish sat down at the table and i was going to sit next to her and this girl like quickly got in front of me to sit next to her, so i was like "is it alright if i sit next to my girlfriend?" and the girl just looked at me like a deer in the headlights and she's like "she's really cute!" and i'm like yeah well move please and then at dinner i //// lunch i was talking about my concentration and my cohort people were too so i asked the new girl "what are you into?" like, in the context of this conversation, i was clearly referring to psych concentration, and she's like, "in bed?" and i gave her this look like wtf and she turned red as hell >>350920 she said it like she had no idea why i was asking like she wasn't paying attention to the conversation at all and just completely went off fucking base
Anno
Maybe the actual story is that she caught Fish hiding behind you when you were volunteering at the run and crushed on her and this whole thing was an attempt to get to know her better. And then you actually being the significant other shut it down hard.
>>350919 haha maybe maybe she talked to me to get to my girlfriend and then i invited her to lunch with my girlfriend and cohort and she didn't know what to do lol idek
I can get 6 sessions of free therapy through my school if I want to, but 6 sessions isn't even enough to make progress so I haven't bothered.
Anno
>>350937 Encouraging most people to seek therapy (and ensuring it's provided and obtainable) would be beneficial to them as professionals and individuals.
fuck i can't listen to sakura's voice without hearing cagliostro anymore
Anno
Oh is that Cag's seiyuu?
Kirara 🦃
Yeah. And she uses basically the same exact voice.
Anno
I never actually interacted with Cag in Granblue.
Anno
>>350947 i wish this would stop i get that the VA field is a little oversaturated but they're not utilizing anyone's talent when they keep hiring them to do the same voice
Kirara 🦃
well with cag, she does a few different voices she has the angry voice which is her real voice and is a bit different but then she has the pretend-cutsie voice that she uses when she's in trouble or wants something and it's literally sakura's voice so she just uses that voice half the time technically but thanks to that i can't hear anything other than cag
Also I get kind of annoyed whenever people lean on the "oh people ran out of ideas so they just made a sequel" kind of bullshit. Like sure, I get it, there's probably some outlying cases where that's true. But in most situations they've had years, some times even a decade or more to put -to mull over the universes they've created in the past. I highly doubt most creators just put these worlds they dream up on a shelf after they're done working on them and forget about them. So they've had plenty of time to come up with ideas that might work as a sequel. I don't understand REMOTELY how that consists of running out of ideas.

>>350962 he said after his country failed to recognize that it was mainly jews that were killed in the holocaust
Anno
Did someone up here say that?
Kirara 🦃
trudeaus opened up a holocaust memorial like a month or two ago that didn't say anything about jews being killed, just saying hate is bad it was a really big controversy in jewish circles
>>350968 do you think it's ridiculous for jews to be upset that the genocide of their people is being omitted from history during a time when the fear of another genocide is very real
>>350969 True that, though only genocide risk I see for jews at this point is in the middle-east unless shit really hits the fan in extreme ways in europe
The offending plaque also commemorates all the people who were murdered in the Holocaust. I understand your issue with not naming the Jewish people in particular, but at the same time, information about the Holocaust is commonplace enough that I have to ask if -every- monument need focus on their losses during the genocides of the Holocaust. There are a lot of minorities and peoples that were abused during those events.
>>350974 Yes Every single monument to a genocide specifically carried out to get rid of Jews needs to mention that the genocide did indeed take place to GET RID OF JEWS
yeah i agree with SK they should obviously mention the other groups that were killed as well, but we live in an age where the president of the united states is a holocaust denier (basically) so seeing these omissions is terrifying to me as a jew
Over 11 million killed of which around 6 million were jews yeah majority was ejws and they were the largest single group targetted but I find it kinda amusing quite many forget the other 5 million people
sk
>>350978 This doesn't even fucking happen to begin with, it's the number 2 most mentioned fact about the holocaust
Kirara 🦃
there are places in the united states where the holocaust isn't even taught in schools now
But then again as we are bowing down to the religion of peace, who have their own opinion about the "jewish question", such omissions must become more common.
Anno
Can you stop with these generalizations. I could pull out my shitty Christian generalizations straight out of a fedora-wearing atheist handbook if you want. Just piss off or stick them up your ass.
sk
Yeah seems like the omissions come primarily from white people with right leaning political views though
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
>>350982 Would if they didn't apply so accurately in here
Like how fucking mindwiped must you be to suggest that the increased frequency of holocaust denial among people who think the roman salute and the swastika are "exuberant" is due to the muslims? Fucking get real, TN
Kirara 🦃
it's pretty much entirely white people doing this stuff
in more lighthearted news i got a free copy of Dragon NaturallySpeaking which is a good speech-to-text program for writing reports and stuff
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
so you are saying trudeau is a white supremacist?
Anno
I'd say he's the kind of guy that would be trying to be as inoffensive to as many people as possible. And in doing so offends everyone. He's an intelligent man to some degree, and well educated. I would be immensely surprised if he does not understand the Jewish losses of the Holocaust.
Kirara 🦃
yeah >>350990 trudeau was most likely trying to be inclusive but he went about it in a way that offended jews
i genuinely believe that trudeau is a kind and caring person that is deeply concerned with human rights
Anno
He's just also a fucking doof.
Kirara 🦃
yeah he's a complete fucking dork
Kirara 🦃
probably one of the least evil people in politics right now (even if i don't agree with everything he says/does)
the work and advocacy he does for minorities is very good

The humour in hindsight is, when the Conservative party was putting up anti-Liberal ads during the election he won in, they strove really hard to paint Trudeau as immature, this kind of young, hot guy that isn't wisened enough for office. 'Course he's over forty years old, that's kind of a dumb way to put it.
But in the end it does kind of feel he wasn't quite prepared for the role.
Sounds like Katajainen here and his successor when he just went "well this prime minister business isa ll nice, but EU is going to pay me more for this post, so byeeeeeeeeee"
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
Guy famous for his "rainbow cabinet" for the amount of parties from clashing viewpoints, and 3 years of business with nothing happening. they couldn't get anything substantial through the parliament, due to the mess the cabinet was. not that his successor did any better, though to give him leeway, he was just suddenly tossed into prime ministerial position, when his speciality was foreign relations and EU deal making.

Oh yeah, I still havn't looked into the "microsoft purposefully fucked nokia to get their mobile industry" thing.
Kirara 🦃
isn't nokia going to produce the phones everyone loves from them again
Anno
>>351002 Though Office programs do have the negative caveat of switching to cloud-based emphasis. Or did they stop relying on that so much.
I remember they wanted a monthly or some other sort of periodic subscription for the Office 365 service and that was when I dropped all current interest in using the software.
>>351010 Nokia brand phone, which is owne by Nokia coproration, or microsoft, god knows now, sold the license to use the brand and old product name to HMD global, which now produces neo-nokia phones. However, the original company Nokia Corporation doesn't do phones.
Kirara 🦃
oh i see well the new nokia 3310 is supposed to be as good as the original 3310 at least
I think nokia is now a networking company mainly their stock is still like 3,50€ piece and everyone is constantly going "soo should ib uy it incase it once again booms to 30s or shit?
Anno
>>>/watch?v=U5DSs-Qi5-o This series never got picked up since it didn't have official subs because Netflix. But I've been eyeing people talking about it all season and it's made me curious.

yeah nokia does brand licensing instead of direct marketing of mobile devices now
>>351016 They sit on a dragon's hoard worth of patents and licenses which is why people are so speculah about them not to mention like billions and billions in just money to use for investments or dividends

it's really a smart decision by them that's the way to do it
I feel they could have been a little more thorough with the different nationalities though. Like I work with a lot of women who are immigrants from the Caribbean and they're lovely ladies. But I can barely understand a word of what they say some times.
Yeah. Asenshi has been subbing it all season but I think there was just too much to watch when the first episode dropped at the start of the season. And I never got a chance to try and fit it in to our watching scheduel. Schedule. Once I've got free time to watch stuff I'll probably marathon it.

I've also got the Tatami Galaxy sort-of-sequel movie I need to watch.

Plot twist: I still haven't actually watched Evangelion.
Kirara 🦃
scraeming
Anno
Which isn't really a big deal relative to this because the paper would be on Evangelion's status as a document which shapes the social and cultural form of the communities that form around it. And as one of the most influential anime series of all time, that's a pretty easy connection to make.
And here I'm always anxious in the summer with the huge armies of racoons that show up to inhabit every fucking tree in the neighbourhood. Thankfully my cat's smart enough to not try picking fights with feral assholes it seems.
Kirara 🦃
yeah this is a really weird place to find coyotes
Kirara 🦃
and it's weird for them to be in packs??
Anno
Is it? I thought coyotes were natural pack animals like most creatures in the canine family.
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
yeah they are pack animals
Kirara 🦃
no, coyotes generally hunt alone or in pairs
Kirara 🦃
like they have a pack, there's an existing social group, but they don't hunt in packs which is why it's weird that they are apparently hunting in packs
Anno
>However, unrelated coyotes may join forces for companionship, or to bring down prey too large to attack singly. Such "nonfamily" packs are only temporary, and may consist of bachelor males, nonreproductive females and subadult young.
Skimming Wikipedia they seem to form small families but only group up in packs when attempting something like what I quoted.
>Unlike the wolf, which has been known to practice both monogamous and bigamous matings,[82] the coyote is strictly monogamous, even in areas with high coyote densities and abundant food. Yeah, it seems like parental pairs and children are as large a group as coyotes naturally form up.
Anno
there's a ton of coyotes here they hoot and holler all night long they're so annoying yeah i don't think they really pack because the game they hunt is so small. mostly rabbits and voles and chickens and things
it's not like wolves where they pack together to take down deer and big game these coyotes can't even hunt a raccoon or a cat because they're too big coyotes are really wimps
Anno
Yeah, the Wikipedia segment I was reading on their social life talks about that.
I think I've heard about coyotes wandering into my neighbourhood once, but a medium-sized predator like that is pretty rare. The worst we get on a more probably basis is maybe a fox.
Anno
yeah the foxes around here are more aggressive than the coyotes coyotes are second-class citizens in the ecosystem they get bullied out of everything and they just take what scraps are left over
well that was weird... the game spawned 20 treasure goblins on me
Kirara 🦃
i should raise an army of coyotes coyotes are cool as hell

they're wimps! an army of foxes would kick their asses

coyotes are like the proletariat coyotes of the world rise!
