my family's seder was shitty as expected my aunt's stupid goy boyfriend lit the candles instead of letting us do it and then he started grabbing egg off the seder plate after the time for egg had passed then my aunt kept drinking her wine even when i verbally told her it was not time to drink, we were only lifting our glasses (i had grape juice) meanwhile her goyfriend is talking about how much he wants some vodka then my aunt got bored and started reading really quickly and generally being a bitch about it

Kirara, the Baseball Mom
psychology is rooted in "facts" but the facts it's rooted in aren't real modern psychology as the APA does it, that is it's all pretty much made up and based on really horrible research that isn't generalizable at all
there is a very real psychology that has a basis in reality but it's rooted in philosophy psychology and philosophy are incredibly related but what the APA talks about when it's talking about psychology is mostly just bad research being touted as academically rigorous and amazing it's ultimately useless well, it's useful if you want to manipulate people and infringe on their rights which is what it's mostly used for
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
but i don't really care if people talk shit anymore most people don't know what they're talking about and even if i correct someone, they're not going to listen i don't really have an obligation to put in the effort to work with someone who isn't going to reciprocate the effort so if people want to talk shit they're gonna do it anyway

Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
that's not how speedrunning works at all
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
It's interesting to see all the exploits people find, but I dunno. I don't think Tilde's necessarily wrong. The world and bosses are so masterfully crafted, but they don't fight the bosses fairly in those. It's about speed, so they cheese everything they can.
I'm not saying it's wrong to do what they're doing, but I understand Tilde's position.
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
There are already categories like all prayer beads, daijoubu
Speedrunning is for speedrunning, normal playthroughs still exist The average speedrunner has probably done more than a few regular playthroughs
>>671023 The way you phrase it makes it sound like they never experienced any of rhat content. They've likely experienced that stuff several times over already and are seeking out alternative ways to experience the game.

Anno
>>671020 >>671021 That doesn't change the fact that reducing a game that has a normal run time of probably around several tens of hours down to under half an hour is disregarding the content of the game. Not that the techniques and skill employed in the speedrun are not impressive and creative, but the intent to ignore the game's designed content is still there. Disregarding the game can still be an enjoyable experience, that just doesn't make my statement any less true. I can be both impressed by the way they break the game to reduce times down that low and kind of put off by the same disregard of the content that developers spent years producing.

I've been watching ZFG a fair bit lately and he made a comment I really like in one of his things. He was asked something like "If you love this game so much why are you trying to play it as little as possible" to which he responded "No, it's not that. I'm trying to condense the fun into a shorter period of time" or so. Which while kinda jokey I think is a fair point.
Plus in order to get all these exploits and glitches you have to have played the game enough to have an understanding of where those could be found. For example, Distortion was trying to see if there was a way to jump a bridge in a particular way to skip the first fight with genichiro or something.

Question to origins/greece players does the game still do this? just fuck you over with the free running when you are sneaking?
Anno
I don't ... think so? The free running system was overhauled from Black Flag to either Unity/Syndicate and then I think further tweaked going into Origins. Same with the stealth system too, really, in particular going into Origins. I think I remember encountering frustrating movement jolts in Syndicate but I can't really remember much along those lines in the Mediterranean games.
!C0.PerkELE
I think I am quite good at abusing this game's system
Anno
>>671021 I don't think my statement has any bearing on any particular person involved. Mostly because it's not individuals I'm concerned with but the concept of reducing games down by breaking them. Because you don't -need- to have played a game "properly" to engage with the speedrun approach to it. Sure, you won't necessarily be out there discovering the high-opportunity bugs yourself as you explore and enjoy the game, but with the dissemination of information because of the online-oriented culture of speedrunning, all that information is publicly available shortly after discovering/display, and since speedrunning strats often require as much knowing of the bugs as well as practice with the strats, even if you didn't discover the technique yourself you can often practice it to be as skilled as someone who discovered it themselves. Like for example, I have never played any of the S/NES Metroid games, I have never experienced the games as the developers designed them. Despite that, I could still just bypass that and go read up on all the little breaks and finnicky tricks, playing the game as a speedrunner. Would I? No, of course not, I enjoy the fullest experience of a medium. But I think there's something to be said about a culture that you can enter like speedrunning without having to played the game "properly" which encourages you to employ techniques which detract from an experience that was crafted with intention and (usually) a degree of passion. It's a little disrespective to the developers. Again, I don't think speedrunning is wrong or anything, but that the culture of speedrunning -is- a disregard for the crafted experience of the developers. Which is all I was saying in >>671017
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
>>671028 Technically, there's an entirely new system in Origins. It was rebuilt from the ground up to match the new mechanics which allow you to climb just about anything.
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
You can't cheese every boss in Sekiro, so you'll need to be pretty good at gameplay for some of them.
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
Also some games are designed these days with speedrunning in mind. I can think of both Shovel Knight and Celeste off-hand. In one of the speedrunning events, they had one of the devs around to see it, and while that dev had some ideas in mind that would allow speedrunners to go quickly, there was something that they didn't predict and it blew them away.
!C0.PerkELE
but I do like how in black flag when you attack EXACTLY when the enemy does, you perfect counter and insta kill
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
Additionally, wasn't the original metroid // didn't it have a time-based reward at the end of the game depending on how quickly you completed it?
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
If a game is designed with speedrunning in mind, it's not a disregard for the developers' intentions to speedrun it. But if a game isn't intended for that, it can be a disregard to do it.
>>671035 If you completed it fast enough, you would see that Samus is a woman. But that wasn't a speedrun thing. There's a difference between a time-based reward and an encouragement to speedrun.
Maria
>>671030 While it's possible for someone to look up speedrunning glitches and exploits before playing a game properly, I don't think that many people would. I'm no expert on speedrunning, but I imagine many of those bugs are tool assisted or require intense amounts of practice and training to pull off. I don't think that many people would invest the time into doing so on their first playthrough. That being said I think you may be onto something in regards to online gamebreaking information, but I wouldn't blame that on the speedrunning community, and more on things like walkthroughs and messageboards. Games like Dark Souls with lots of secrets and hidden areas can be easily broken by their online communities. Even if someone wanted to opt out of the extra information, it's hard to escape people discussing stuff like Ash Lake or the Painted World I also think that this sort of attitude is a little restrictive and it comes off as though there's only ine way to enjoy a video game. A video game isn't like a movie in that the experience is crafted so that everyone will see the same thing every time. The crafting of the experience is also on the onus of the player as well. So I consider the player to be their own creative force in a sense and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Also the lines between exploits and legitimate play aren't clear and well defined. Combos in SF2 were originally a glitch but you wouldn't say that using those is being disrespectful to a developers vision
Anno
>>671035 Yeah, but the time-based reward was manageable without employing game-breaking strats. Metroid might not be the best example I could have used anyway since if I remember correctly most of the strats aren't game-breaking but merely about discovering efficiency. But there aren't a lot of famous speed-run games I haven't actually played so I needed one that could fit the example.
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
I don't think speedrunning is in anyway disrespectful to anyone unless the developer actively states that they don't want it done quickly.
People who are better than other players will complete your game quicker. Speedrunners, particularly when glitches are involved, are just doing that even better.
I completely disagree with the notion that speedrunning is inherently disrespectful.
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
>>671036 "there's a difference between a reward for going fast and encouraging going fast " I don't follow.
!C0.PerkELE
that was cinematic >who are you in spanish? says the captain as I jump into the ship and immediately shoot him in the head
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
>>671040 Because you don't want to or because it doesn't make sense?
In Jet Set Radio Future, you can unlock a bunch of characters by completing the game within a certain number of hours. This is an encouragement to get good enough at the game that you can complete the game within that time, which I think was 10 hours. That's not an encouragement to complete it within 30 minutes.
Anno
>>671040 The definition of speedrunning Kirara and I are looking at is the part that involves utilizing glitches or unintentional exploits to speedrun. I understand often a lot of speedrunning components are just be functionally skilled with the game's mechanics, but you can't argue that things like a lot of the techniques employed, for example, in reducing your time in Sekiro, are not glitches or unintentional exploits. A reward for going fast is usually designed within game's standard mechanics. You can get the special Samus ending in Metroid without using anything that breaks the game. You can not get Sekiro down to under half an hour without breaking the game. Hence there is a difference between a time-based reward and an encouragement to speedrun.
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
>>671043 But is it disrespectful to a developer to utilize the oversights that arise in developing a game.
Anno
Yeah? They're only human, you can't expect them to be perfect in executing their vision into reality. >>671046 My arguement has been from the beginning that it is disregarding the experience the developers have designed.

>>671045 That loops back to the fact that finding those glitches usually takes someone who has experienced the game as intended.

I've never beaten Super Mario World but I can go and read up on the ridiculous skips involved in speedrunning and, with practice, get a good time without having experienced the game as intended.
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
At that point that's the player who decides to look up those glitches first's fault, not speedrunning's.
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
We're not talking about responsibility here. We're just saying it's a disregard for the experience the developers intended.

>>671054 Speedrunning is a culture that encourages the approach to using glitches and exploits, generally. If it's a competition to get to the lowest time, people will be encouraged to bypass the normal experience. Again, it's not wrong to enjoy speedrunning, but that it is something that encourages people to disregard the developer's experience.
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
>>671059 Nobody is saying speedrunning is wrong. Only that it disregards the developer's work when the game is being broken and exploited.

Maria
>>671049 How do you even know that. There are cases in which developers may respect speedrunning and, as you stated earlier with Metroid, may have even kept it in mind. Some developers might be impressed to see players pushing their work to its limits They might be fascinated to see people doing things they didn't even know was possible within what they've crafted. I think if I made a video game, I would appreciate the amounts of passion that speedrunners put into learning the ins and outs of it.

Anno
>>671064 Being put off by the speedrunning and being impressed by the speedrunning are not mutually exclusive. I don't think it would be impossible to be surprised and fascinated by the creativity of speedrunning while also put off that their designed experience is being disregarded. When you spend years working on something, putting hours and hours into its creation, it's impossible to not have some kind of view of it's "right" experience. There's a limit to how much of that should be taken into account because of death of the author and all, but when it comes to mechanical experience I feel that's less relevant.

Maria
>>671066 Sure that's technically true but in practical terms I wouldn't necessarily apply that way of thinking. Like I said earlier, there's plenty of games where bugs have become core features. Bunnyhopping was a glitch but I wouldn't refer to using that as ignoring a developers artistic vision.
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
>>671070 I don't really want the table. Fish's mom has been texting me a lot from Fish's phone, though. Which is weird since she has my number.
did you know that backwalking in Ocarina of Time is faster than walking forward?
Did you know that in OoT, the Bunny Hood does nothing, but in Majora's Mask it increases your forward movement speed to be as fast as backwalking in both games?
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
A bug that makes you move a little faster is completely different from a bug that lets you skip 90% of the game.
It's weird to me that you guys won't agree that exploiting a problem with a wall to skip more than half the game is an obvious disregard for what the developers intended for the experience of the game.
Nobody is saying it's bad to do that or that nobody should do it. It's just an observation Tilde made, and that I agree with. I mean, it seems pretty straightforwardly true.
Anno
I won't deny I made the observation expecting some sort of response but I didn't imagine it would snowball this much.
Maria
>>671075 You said at >>671049 that it's fucking with the devs creation. So either there's nothing wrong with speedrunning at all, or you think it's disrespectful to the developers, or something else entirely.
>>671076 Do you dislike this sort of conversation? I don't. I don't think anyone's mad at each other or anything.
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
>>671017 because this has an extremely negative connotation to it.
Anno
>>671077 I do think there's something wrong with speedrunning, that it's a disregard for the "proper" way to enjoy the game. That doesn't mean it's a bad thing, or that I can't enjoy it, or that people shouldn't do it. That's based in my personal view of how to enjoy things though so please understand I understand it's subjective. And ultimately I think the summative value of speedrunning -is- good. It's a creative culture that promotes thinking outside the box and being mechanically skilled, and generally keeps to being friendly competition without getting too toxic.
But that doesn't detract from the fact that reducing a game designed to have tens of hours of content down to under half an hour is a disregard for the game's design. If you think disregarding that is fine, that's fine, on some level I agree, but whether or not you think it's fine or not, I can't see why that statement is false.
>>671077 I don't dislike the conversation but it is kind of all-consuming. I need to take care of some stuff plus I wanted to get some more Anno 1800 in and I'm not really the kind of person who can do either of those while engaged in a conversation this intense.

I wonder if a pig can appreciate the stars. If you'd lived your whole life having never seen the stars, but one day, you were picked up and shown them, would you immediately recognize the beauty, or would you be unable to comprehend what's happening? Meanwhile, his partner, the army guy who pilots the ship and dies every iteration, goes but with a different partner. And that different partner manages to not have the army guy die.
BUT HE FUCKS UP THE CRUCIAL PART (I think) and they BOTH DIE (I think) and THEN THE CREDITS ROLL.

I just want to know what the value of any of it was in the end. I guess he gets to keep his wife and doesn't say the dumb thing that ruins his marriage but the army guy... what about him... he dies and keeps dying and has to deal with this scientist going MAD in EVERY TIME LOOP and when he's finally rid of him, HE STILL DIES.
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
>>671361 What a wonderful ending. I kind of want to watch it, now. Those endings which make everything that happened pointless where there's no meaning to any of it are my favorites.

I feel like I missed some crucial details in the beginning because I know it opens with him dying. I just didn't really watch what was happening. That scene where he's watching the television recording of them talking to the TV show host, and he's laughing. The guy is next to him already dead. I saw that part and was like "woah, okay shit, what's this about?" and the guy just goes crazy and is really annoying for a good amount of the rest.

It would be unfortunate to be a writer and to have someone start recreating murder scenes from your novels.

I was wondering how he started working with the NYPD in the first place. By the time I started watching the show, it was the episode where Beckett is about to die because they can't solve the password or disarm the bomb in time and they're just confessing their love and arguing with each other about who fell in love first. But I guess that's good for me and I don't have to wade through the tsundere phase. Just... "we're in love but we're annoying about it but we're doing this now"
Anno
oh my mistake I was thinking of someone else these two guys look similar to me

On one hand, I want to go buy clearance choco tomorrow. On the other hand, if I have all that choco around, I'll eat too quickly.
I'll probably just stick to keeping caramels around.
Anno
I'm considering heading out to check the bulk goods store on Wednesday. They've got a 10% on everything for students and the Easter discounted stuff may still be around too. Maybe I shouldn't though, hah hah.
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
Wow, student discounts at a retail place. How nice.
I want to buy things in bulk, but I just don't really have storage for things. I just have my kitchen cabinets and a half-bathroom that I use as storage space. And my closet, but that's not really storage space.
But then again, I don't buy a lot of things you can buy in bulk reasonably. My meat or my vegetables would go bad before I finished them if I bought them in bulk, and that's mainly what I buy. I guess I could buy rice in bulk.
What do you usually get in bulk?
Anno
Pretty much only sweets, hah hah. I don't really have many general needs I need fulfilled buying in bulk. Though I do keep in mind the kind of things I see at the bulk store in case it's useful in the future.
I'd also consider investing in a Costco membership. They're great for bulk purchase and seem to rotate in and out some more esoteric stock so it could be fun to see what's around for that month or whatnot.
The bulk sweets I get are usually chocolate Smarties. Some times I'll get peanut M&Ms. Around Easter there's candy-shelled chocolate eggs which are totally delicious too. Some times I'll get fruit-flavoured gommies like Fuzzy Peaches or Sour Cherry Blasters and other assorted candies in that vein. They're all the same price usually so I can just throw a bunch in a mixed bag.
There's also an outlet store near my house that sells Cadbury chocolate and Peak Freans cookies that I get a lot of bulk sweets on the cheap too.

Things go bad so quickly that I usually just buy fresh food the day or the day before I plan on using it. I try not to keep perishables around for more than two or three days because they'll go bad. With the exception of some fruits like peaches and mangoes. Mangoes can last about a week and peaches can survive about 5 days if they're not refrigerated. Strawberries don't last a week in my fridge, nor do blueberries. Bananas last forever in my fridge, though.

Most anime that Netflix associate produces doesn't get an English release until after the show is done airing and they've added English subs and all. Like both Kakegurui seasons had fansubbers too because of this. Carole & Tuesday seems to be in the same vein.
The only Netflix anime that got regular weekly subbed releases was Violet Evergarden, for some reason. It's a little weird to me. Violet shows English Netflix is willing to do weekly releases instead of the classic Netflix binge dump, but they pretty much actively choose not to.

As for going back to "I don't respect people" I don't see why anyone deserves automatic respect and at the sametime, why would they deserve disrespeect you can really correct a misspelling by making it worse, can't you Me?
but basically people are treated neutral and then they earn your respect or your disrespect, what is wrong with that? I might like someone, but they might still lack my respect or have earned my disrespect and that might go both ways hell I have few friends where this is a fucking cat *fact HOW

so if you go like "buddy" or "friend" in finnish to someone you are buddies or friends with it usually means you are making a statement, where you are using that as a leverage or a point so automatically either you are disrespecting them in some way or they have disrespected you and you are calling that out by using your relationship status there

I saw Hello Dolly with Sally Struthers as Dolly several years ago. If I recall correctly it was for the 50th anniversary of the musical. That was the only true Broadway show I've seen. I've seen plenty of musicals and plays, but they were mostly done by random local troupes, so they weren't really true Broadway performances.
