how much do you have to drink to even get alcohol poisoning how do people do that i have drank so fuckin much before and never had that happen, and i'm a pretty unabashed drinker >>498252 what is a promille i will ask google but for posterity i'm announcing the question here
idk blood alcohol content doesn't make sense to me you have half a liter of 51% bourbon, that's .5 liters of alcohol with 6-ish liters of blood in the body, you're at like 1/12th is it based on alcohol or the acetylalcohol metabolite according to BAC you would only need 40ml of alcohol to send you into fatal territory, but people can easily drink six or eight times that amount
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
it goes through your system quite slowly and your liver constantly cuts it down we are talking about the actual ethanol content in your blood circulation not just your system but how much of it is on average in your blood
TN !PcAPtAiNJo

My internet died for while. It only got restored recently. Without internet it was super boring here.
月
>>498258 well ethanol content isn't quite the same like, you drink so much alcohol, and the liver metabolizes it into acetylalcohol and when it's too backed up for the liver to process, then you get the raw alcohol in the bloodstream i guess although i feel like i have it backwards i think the acetylalcohol is what causes the harmful effects on the body idk
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
I think based on some expreriments, about 2 pints will lead to 0,5 permille content wich is the DUI limit here
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
>>498261 i dunno about the bac system, but the permille system measures indeed the content of 100% alcohol in your blood

BAC is the same blood alcohol content we just use figures like .08 or .16, which should correlate to .8 and .16 permille

>>498421 the social element of Norway is different than here the flavor and culture of crime in Norway is not the systemic variety that we have in the united states because it's not integrated into the system in such cases, it's easier to expose the affected individuals to a more wholesome system and acclimating them to it to limit criminal interfacing
the US is different our reason for imprisoning criminals is twofold for the less career criminals, it's to provide them with the basic resources to help them move out of that life, which i actually think is a decent system but i condemn the system as a whole because the lower portion of its regimen deals with removing criminal elements from the street, which is a counterproductive maneuver that causes worse and more serious crime that a community cannot self-control, and the prison system doesn't do anything to remove the individuals from a criminal lifestyle, as the same variety of crime is still rampant in prisons (no judgment on that) but that's only to say that it's clearly not intended for rehabilitation, but just for criminal segregation
Kirara 🚗
>>498423 war on drugs is a big part of it but there are a lot of other factors too

Prison doesn't occur in a vacuum. Those European countries have prison populations that are more easily rehabilitated. The solution to criminal behavior starts at early education.

most people in prisons are in for crimes that shouldn't have punishments that involve prisons

People convicted of state er People convicted of drug and property crimes often don't go until they have a ton of priors, and they still get out quick. Not only is overcrowding a motivator to getting them out, they can't pay court costs and restitution from the inside and money makes the world go round. At least around here, most people serving long prison sentences are in for violent or sex crimes.
月
>>498430 what kind of trouble to people get in for something like, say, just hypothetically, not paying their taxes to the IRS
Kirara 🚗

Yuu

>>498433 Yeah, but whenever someone says "minimum give (five) years" they're overlooking the fact that the sentence is suspended and the person is placed on probation. Distribution and manufacturing require relatively high weights, and yeah, those people go in becauase they're deemed a danger to others (for distributing drugs)
People really only serve their sentences if they get their probation revoked or if they have a ton of priors.
月

A large amount of my work deals with members of marginalized communities and often intersects with their drug problems and problems with law enforcement. >>498502 I dislike reasoning like this because it is inherently exclusionary. Kirara 🚗
>>498506 you've completely misunderstood what i said in fact i explicitly said the opposite of what you're saying i'm saying
Yuu
No, I don't think I have. It's pretty clear what it means. I think an outsider can come to a perfectly clear understanding of a community like that. All you have to do is observe for a little while.
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
I enjoyed the first heaven's feel movie. That was a good time.
Kirara 🚗
>>498508 >I think an outsider can come to a perfectly clear understanding of a community like that. yeah that's what i said which is why i'm convinced you've misunderstood me
i said that people can come to understand it without experiencing it, but you in particular have not come to do that
doing so involves checking your biases and being able to look at the problem from the perspective of those people but you see everything from the perspective that you always have - and that's not unreasonable, - it's just not effective for understanding plights that are so far removed from you
Maria

Maria

Kirara 🚗
>>498513 checking your biases means that if you are a rich white woman then when dealing with something like poor people. you need to be able to realize what being a rich white woman does to your perspective that's the only way to be more objective
and nobody said "you can't say that" you're making so many assumptions and projecting them on to us based on what you think a caricature of political correctness would say
Yuu
>>498516 I disagree with that. To look at something objectively, all you need to do is remove yourself from the equation. I don't need to go on some crazy journey of self-reflection to find the true meaning ot priviledge, that stuff is completely immaterial. Being able to look at something clinically is just automatic for me. It's like flipping a switch. A professional should be able to do that sort of thing instantly, I think. I don't really need to analyze my biases because I'm capable of throwing them out the window in an instant.
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
>>498520 At least you acknowledge some dubs as good. That's the first step to enjoying things.
Maria

>Glanzman’s experiments — funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation — involved giving mild electrical shocks to the marine snail Aplysia californica. Shocked snails learn to withdraw their delicate siphons and gills for nearly a minute as a defense when they subsequently receive a weak touch; snails that have not been shocked withdraw only briefly.
>The researchers extracted RNA from the nervous systems of snails that had been shocked and injected the material into unshocked snails. RNA’s primary role is to serve as a messenger inside cells, carrying protein-making instructions from its cousin DNA. But when this RNA was injected, these naive snails withdrew their siphons for extended periods of time after a soft touch. Control snails that received injections of RNA from snails that had not received shocks did not withdraw their siphons for as long.

also in the news on brains today
>In our new paper in Nature Neuroscience, we use the meta-reinforcement learning framework developed in AI research to investigate the role of dopamine in the brain in helping us to learn. Dopamine—commonly known as the brain’s pleasure signal—has often been thought of as analogous to the reward prediction error signal used in AI reinforcement learning algorithms. These systems learn to act by trial and error guided by the reward. We propose that dopamine’s role goes beyond just using reward to learn the value of past actions and that it plays an integral role, specifically within the prefrontal cortex area, in allowing us to learn efficiently, rapidly and flexibly on new tasks.
>We tested our theory by virtually recreating six meta-learning experiments from the field of neuroscience—each requiring an agent to perform tasks that use the same underlying principles (or set of skills) but that vary in some dimension.
>One experiment we recreated is known as the Harlow Experiment, a psychology test from the 1940s used to explore the concept of meta-learning. In the original test, a group of monkeys were shown two unfamiliar objects to select from, only one of which gave them a food reward. They were shown these two objects six times, each time the left-right placement was randomised so the monkey had to learn which object gave a food reward. They were then shown two brand new objects, again only one would result in a food reward. Over the course of this training, the monkey developed a strategy to select the reward associated-object: it learnt to select randomly the first time, and then based on the reward feedback to choose the particular object, rather than the left or right position, from then on. The experiment shows that monkeys could internalise the underlying principles of the task and learn an abstract rule structure — in effect, learning to learn.

>>499030 We don't really know where the consciousness exists though. Possibly, extracting the RNA in this procedure and putting it into something else might transfer a consciousness from one body to another. But that's not really something that can be determined in creatures on the scale of marine snails. The memories the RNA transfer is moving might not even be memories that compose our consciousness, if that's even what our consciousness is. This is kind of leaving my limited understanding of thought and consciousness at a rapidly accelerating pace though so I really don't fucking know.

Dying generally sucks. Even if you want it, getting it generally sucks.
Ko-Shi
I don't even think he wanted it
Anno
And the way he got it was one of the more sucky ways to get it.
Maria
>>499033 yeah true I kind of glossed over the horriffic pain bit
Samurai Lal'C !KW2DbpWwls
still pretty sweet to get eternal life
Ko-Shi
But he already had it. Imagine all these terrible people doing shit and it's like Well they'll never make it up to you so I will But you never did anything.
we just don't get a 40 day trolling period, but go straight to paradise
Anno
i prefer imagining that my entire existence gets obliterated and there is nothing else out there tbh
TN
>>499083 well if you aren't a christian and don't subscribe to hell theory, that is exactly what happens
Anno
it would be kind of cool if i got sent to a bureaucratic hell if i got to just live there after my eternity of damnation is over hang out with hoozuki and sing JIGOKU JIGOKU
Maria
Hell is waiting for the bureaucrats to finish filing your soul
Anno
I'm almost caught up with all of the anime after a week of not watching anime well we watched like 4 new shows that week but there's so much more garbage to watch

Anno
>>499089 I don't know if I've beat this dead horse but you could go watch Houseki no Kuni in full. Or have you been watching the new Lupin? It's been pretty fun.
Anno
>watching old anime i'll never do that for a couple reasons
i did forget about lupin though i'm a couple episodes behind that i'll watch it after this episode of mobage
Anno
It's only like a season or two old!
Anno
i watch currently airing stuff for like 4 hours a day i don't have time to watch anything else unless i can verbally shitpost with someone else while i'm doing it!
Anno
the rest of my free time has to go into video games or else i'll DIE
Anno

Anno
it's pretty boring at times but there isn't much else to do this late at night and I don't go to school so I have to waste my time somehow!

>>499104 it's like you just press a button and someone punches you in the stomach but you keep pressing it hoping you'll get chocolate instead
Anno
For a sufficiently good chocolate, it can be a mighty tempting offer at times.
Anno
Pretty good rainstorm outside. Nice and noisy, hints of the occasional rumble of thunder.
Oh my cat's outside, she'll probably want inside soon then.
Anno
I want it to rain more but it's getting dry where I live! The seasons here suck.
Anno
We tend to get a fair bit of rain this time of year 'round here. This and late summer are the two most common times for rain. Summer thunderstorms are especially great. Best time of year to see great lightning shows.
Anno
>>499110 There's a decent amount of rain here until June or so but it really starts cutting off around may. Late winter to early spring it rains all the time, I like it. It'll rain several days in a row sometimes.
Summer thunderstorms would be nicer if the weather wasn't so miserable, when it's hot and humid it feels awful.
TN
may, more like july it is 24 outside and it is morning
Anno
I forgot to pick more melatonin up when I was somewhere with open shops around earlier this evening. I don't really know what I'm going to do about falling asleep at a reasonable time now.

Anno
>he can't be on call at 1AM what kind of non hellworld do you live on
Anno
Software development, apparently.
Anno
>where jigen at? my thoughts exactly
Anno
Ami was a cool character.
Anno
Yeah, her arc was really fun. I like how she grew up to embrace a very Lupin-y mindset.
Anno
Then they follow that drama with an episode that's funny as hell. >>499120 She got excited risking her life, so I'm sure she'll come back around to risking it for excitement eventually! Lupin could use a supah hackah around!
Anno
Especially with how modern they've set the capers in this series. There's so much TECH involved.
Anno
