Piano told me she was dating someone. Which, honestly, isn't even that big of an issue. But the story behind it, and how I guess ... I was instrumental to this happening bothers me. I learned about a love triangle between the three friends that I go hang out with at conference. Literally "those three people that I go to conference to see".
Before leaving conference, I told that guy not to take a girl down a path that he's not even sure he wants to go down. And he told me that I was right and he'll take it seriously. The aftermath of which ended up with him not picking that other girl and Piano and him dating. I was the mentor of this I'm okay with it. I'm more disappointed in myself than anything. there is no optimal speed you can always go faster

acceleration is the fuel heavy part maintaining high speed should be fuel efficient

TN !PcAPtAiNJo
>>347173 That is less about words, and more about customs In english you generally answer to something with "you too" so without thinking much, the most common automative response comes out. In other languages, ie. finnish, we just say thanks etc, so the "you too" in restaurants doesn't really exist.
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
But something that is equally funny is people being interviewed >interview ends >interviewer thanks the person >person thanks back
Kirara ๐ฆ
it's like the chinese room
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
the what?
Koi-
Yeah. Kinda. The Chinese room takes time to understand though.
Kirara ๐ฆ
There's a girl in a room and everyone outside the room only speaks Chinese. In order to communicate with them, she has to read lines from a book. So she's holding conversations with them despite not knowing what she's talking about just by reading from the book and responding to people like that. It's a lot more complicated than that, but that's the gist of it.
When I say it's like the Chinese room, I mean, we're responding to each other and holding conversations despite not knowing the meaning of our words. We just say things reflexively.
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
Can't say about english but I am quite well informed on the finnish language and its roots not to mention, it is quite simple language in terms of word forming at times.
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
No >latin base word >france derivater >english derivate wich got influenced by the vikings >current word
Kirara ๐ฆ
Well, we're not talking about it like that. That kind of stuff is surface level knowledge.
This is more philosophical than purely linguistic. It's a problem of communication.
Koi-
>>347180 First off, you love words. That makes you exceptional.
You can look up the Chinese room on wikipedia, it explains it pretty simply, but it essentially draws the line between understanding a language and merely outputting the language.
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
>>347182 I kinda get what you mean, but it kinda just fundamentally is blanked by my mind I rarely speak without meaning, so that doesn't happen to me so much
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
Speaking of languages, atleast in most modernly used languages, as they have evolved quite long and especially recently changed quite swiftly to match the ever so global society. There are quite many hmm similiarities you could say, without them being similiar at all in terms of grammar or sentence construction. But it still kinda hammers the point of "we all are human in the end" Of course this doesn't apply to all languages spoken now, rather to the ones spoken in countries that have had the privilege of having the access to the top technological advances.
FormerRei@mobile
>>347183 Counter argument What if you ask the chinese room what its favorite food is?
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
>>347183 The room question is more of an issue about sentience and understanding, while the argument is presented by a language, you could apply any kind of topic that a machine can output, but doesn't actually have any understanding of Heh, you could actually apply this to some internet arguments, as people toss around ideas and concepts, mainly by copy pasting or loosely quoting them, without actually being that well versed in them. Are they not like the AI in the chinese room question, just tossing stuff at people without fully comprehending what it is?
Koi-
>>347186 It can simply choose a food. Being able to make decisions on what's considered a favorite doesn't really constitute to having consciousness. It just means you can make a decision. Even maintaining it canonically throughout a conversation (I like apple pie. *minutes later* Yeah, that's as good as apple pie.) is just a matter of sticking to what has been decided.
>>347188 In general people will have to think about it some time and most likely the result varies every time asked Would actually be an amusing thing to gather a control group at say age 15 and then ask them such questions say every year for next well 15 years
Anno
I took the wrong kind of cough medicine and feel retarded at work now
Koi-
>>347187 The lack of critical thought in one instance doesn't really negate your ability to do so in others. So while it looks like you're acting like a generic bot by spreading copy/paste concepts that you aren't as very well versed in, there's more depth within intention. With the Chinese room, you are given a part of conservation and respond off of whatever is dictated to you. People having internet arguments in things they aren't well versed in though are doing it freely based on understood information. What little of it was understood anyway. Even if that understanding is actually false or misleading.
TN !PcAPtAiNJo

>>347188 Okay, but what if you give it an ASCII illustration and ask it what it looks like?
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
>>347192 But you saying >>347173 is not really us lacking the comprehension of "you too" it is actually more so, that our brain fully understand the words and their meaning and the meaning delivered on saying it that it can do it automatically without you having to think about it it is almost like a verbal reflex comparable to panic trying to catch a dropped glass or the "aaah" shouted when something surprising happens our society teaches us, that such word is the msot common way to react, and thus the brain shortcuts and does the response, without the "thinking part" having much say to it but that is like saying that reflexes aren't actually part of our consciousness and that some automatic functions aren't well "us" per se And then it becomes more of an argument what makes the human mind the human mind and such bullshit.
FormerRei@mobile
Or hand it a book and ask what it thinks about it?
Kirara ๐ฆ
it would find the answer? that's the point of the chinese room it'd find an answer for the question
FormerRei@mobile
>>347173 It's not nonsensical, you're telling them to also enjoy their meal. >>347198 So it would find the answer to "what do you think about that book?"?
Koi-
>>347196 That's why I say "Kinda". It's not exactly like the Chinese Room in this case. But what the room does illuminate about words is related. Saying "you too" is actually a mistake, but it's an understandable mistake. I don't know if CR really has room for mistakes like that (maybe) but what is important here is that there may not need to be an actual understanding of language for information to be conveyed. In CR, you don't understand yet things are conveyed. With 'you too', you mess up out of reflex, but what you are getting across "gratitude in response to gratitude" is conveyed.
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
>>347200 It is a mistake due to panicking like someone seeing something surprising happen, can say do a mistake reaction say surprise prank gone wrong by the surprised person punching the surpriser or your quick save attempt ruining the accident even further.
>>347206 Spooky So maybe if you asked one chibese room one question and another the same question they'd have different answers.

>>347208 Which is why I compare it to our interviews ending with >kiitos >kiitos like seriously that is how all our interviews end >thank you >thank you
Kirara ๐ฆ
"You too" is a reflexive response to kind words. Most often, we hear "Have a nice day," things like that, and we say "You too" But "Enjoy your movie" has a similar meaning to "have a nice day" but with a little extra tacked on. So it's easy to mix up your signals and reflexively say "you too: "
>>347207 Yeah, the answers would depend on the books that are in the Chinese rooms.
Koi-

TN !PcAPtAiNJo
And as far as I know, it is a quite recent thing an attempt to be polite or something. Though, who would actually end an interviewer ending it with "thank you" with "you're welcome"
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
>>347210 in here you generally say "thanks, you too" so it leaves you with the slight brief pause between the two phrases, to think "wait is it appropriate to say you too"
it happens here too, but quite rarer in general with out social autism, we just say thanks to any "have a nice day" or just grunt or be mute *our
and the word itself - kiitos - is a two syllable one, so it leaves longer time to think what you are doing and saying also saying "you too" literally would be really awkward, sinulle myรถs so actual forms are "kuin myรถs" same meaning, but literally then too or "sitรค sama" that same to (you)

if it's anything like the old band hero games i used to play, t-shirt sales are the most important when it comes to making money as musicians
Anno
Most big-name musicians are contracted through record companies, which make money off their artists through a variety of means. There's still some monetary purchasing of records and EPs, whether digital or physical, but there's also the artist's image that they can sell to commercial brands, as well as non-music merchandise. Concerts are probably the best component for income for most artists though, unless they have the fame to -really- push those merchandise sales. Either way all this money flows into the record companies which then pay out the artists.
hi moe! i had my thanksgave finally i got to see my sisters and meet one's new fella and visit with my sissy's kiddos i actually feel pretty okay about it after how bothered i was all week
i still dont like the holiday too long a drive kills my back in pain the whole time and super anxiety, which my sisters all share the three of us together are so socially anxious and awkward but i guess it makes me feel better bein around them for that reason they're both older than me so i guess it wasn't til adulthood until we kind of plateaued out in that way for me to notice >>347311 no it was thanskgiving what's fun is that a new zealander holiday
Maria
>>347313 >what's fun A scam I've invested too much into Is the anxiety genetic or something?
Anno
not genetic i don't think we just all shared a similar enough childhood just at different ages it's good to connect and feel close with your siblings it's been a while since i had that i guess they gave me a little shit before about being the only one not married but all their husbands caused drama between the family and problems so hah i'm the only one not making a HUGE MISTAKE you mean marriage is such a sham at least for people like me
Maria
>>347315 they're simply jealous of your freedom Fox and the sour grapes
Anno
well they leave me to be the primary caretaker for their mom as the youngest and the one with half an income instead of two collected incomes each nothing to be jealous of with my situation they both get to live the dream and make their mistakes and i have to be the caretaker and the underprivileged at the same time sorry i probably shouldn't voice my gripes here it's indecent
Maria
>>347317 why do you have to be caretaker instead of them
Anno
some people feel compelled to ignore situations that they don't like and other feel compelled to fix them i guess maybe their husbands played a part in telling them what isn't their problem and that they don't owe their mother that decency
Yuu
Finding someone will to be a caretaker is tough in general.
Anno
seeing my sissy with a guy that treats her well makes me happy though he's a little metrosexual i mean, he dresses his lapdog in a sweater but it's cute and he really has a good attitude and supports her interests he went with her to a miniature museum which i was kind of jealous of -- i love miniatures
that last dude she was with was just always treating her like she was a child for liking things that weren't high-intelligence things and super adult professional things but the dude was a tool and stopped supporting himself to rely on her at some point
>>347322 that's not really how that works but don't worry about it man i appreciate you listening, but you don't wanna hear all that nonsense more than i want to say it
>>347321 does the minature museum have trains? I love those really elaborate train sets with hills and little people and the trains are moving
Anno
>>347323 >miniature train sets you fuckin amateur not only would they have stuff like that but they'd also have miniature towns that the railroads pass through with miniature patios and yard flamingos and patio tables on the houses in that town
skYuuMaria
>>347324 Oh man you know what the BEST part of war museums is? The minature war dioramas with all the soldiers and the hills and trenchs and sandbags and wires So fucking cool

AnnoAnno
Cute gem.
Anno
sorry moe i always come here and dump all over the board and it dies i don't really know how to talk about what else than is on my mind im sorry i'm not good at all this
Yuu
It's just kinda been slow in general today, it has nothing to do with you. People's schedules not lining up and whatnot. I've been playing games a good bit tonight too so I haven't been posting much.
Yeah, I've been reading texts and gaming. Been keeping an eye on /moe/, but I don't really have anything I can contribute much from my own capacity.
Yuu
Don't you hate when hair is in front of your eye but you can't find it I can't tell if it's just from my head, or a loose hair stuck in my glasses or an eyelash.
Anno
I don't think I really have that problem in that way. At least, my head hairs don't really get in my eyes. But I've got long eyelashes that some times fold inwards and brush against my eye, or worse, get stuck under my eyelid.
>>347335 i shaved all mine off again out of spite of it being stubborn
Anno
>>347335 i forgot i wanted to ask you have you played ghost trick
Anno
I always feel a little bad eating ribs. The enjoyment potential they have is really wasted on me. I don't like having to grab at the bone to eat the meat off it, and that sort of fatty "sheet" of meat right down at where the meat meets the bone is pretty unpalatable to me. And the ends of the ribs always end up being this weird mishmash of bone, meat, and fatgristle that I just don't want to involve myself with eating.
But everyone else in my family loves ribs so I'm stuck fairly frequently having to eat them, or miss out on a meat-based dinner that day.
>>347335 I'm okay if it's my entire fringe but if it's just a few stray hairs and nothing else it annoys me for some reason
Samu ๐ค !KW2DbpWwls
>>347340 aw don't feel bad i'd say you're missing out a lil but if it's not your style then
Samu ๐ค !KW2DbpWwls
i had some amazing rack of lamb recently dat gristle
Maria
I love ribs
Yuu
I have moderate feelings about ribs.
Anno
I like a lot of the styles of cooking that ribs get cooked under. And a lot of the common and popular seasonings and spice mixes used in cooking them. Flavour wise they're great. I just can't stand the actual process of eating them.
Yuu
They're annoying to eat and there is better meat. But they aren't bad.
Maria
I love the sauce and the feeling of ripping the meat from the bone
Anno
i'd like to roast you and eat the meat off of your ribs
I feel like bitcoin would have been good to invest in when it was first starting out, but I guess you cna say that about any investment. I can't see it getting much higher. It's really absurdly high! If it does much better I imagine it will get regulated.
Maria
>>347402 that's what I said like a month ago Then it shot up another thousand I keep thinking the bubble will pop but it just never does Just keeps on going
>>347406 If you invest like 50$ today you could gain a lot without losing much
Yuu
It's way too dangerous to invest in though. Even if you were to invest today and it kept going up for awhile, you wouldn't know when to sell it. It's going to crash again for sure.
Yuu
It's also weird that a bitcoin is worth so much. A single coin worth a thousand bucks?
It's so awkward to say something like "oh this is worth 0.14 bitcoin".
Maria
>>347408 I wonder how much of it is speculation and how much is people legitimately using bitcoins to pay for something
Anno
>>347408 More so, one coin is with NINE THOUSAND bucks. It's absurd. Everything you actuall purchase with them is done in fractions.
Maria
I hope the illegal drugs market booms so the value of my bitcoin increases
Yuu
It's also hard to imagine that it will be allowed to do this well for very long. The ability to issue currency is one of those jealously guarded powers of the state.
Anno
I don't really know what states can do to halt the capacity to create blockchain currencies. Not without heavily policing of the Internet. Even China, which has INTENTLY stepped in to attempt to regulate this sort of thing can't impede the investment of its civilians in it.
Yuu
I'm sure there's something the government could do to make it crash. I don't really know what that would be though, since I'm not smart.
Anno
I just don't think the ramifications of doing such a thing would merit the action. You'd have to inhibit people from purchasing the blockchain currencies, or seize the distribution of hardware that can reliably mine for the currencies. Both of which kind of have horrible other effects that would create an even biggerheadache.
Samu ๐ค !KW2DbpWwls
The cat's out of the bag now I don't know if anyone can stop it at this point

>>347417 adopt a standard raw material on which currency's value is dependent like, say gold

>>347433 I've heard rumors that we could go back to the gold standard if we wanted, but that probably won't happen.

Tadaimasu So my friend waited a really long time to order my birthday present. But this weekend the publisher was having a 40% off everything sale so he got about twice as much stuff for me. I had done the math to have the total be $69 and some change. It's RPG stuff
today i had some stressful time at work and i had to take a minute to calm down but once i did, it worked really well and everything was dfine it's really rare that happens i hope to replicate that success in the future
Maria
I hope you continue to have minutes in which you're calm
Anno
But not all the minutes. That might get kind of boring.
>>347644 Nope I used to play Warhammer 40k but that's not a tabletop rpg
FormerRei@mobile
>>347645 D&D originally used rules from a miniatures combat game. But then gygax and arneson thought "what if we had other people come and just play as individual soldiers"
FormerRei@mobile
Also what army?
Maria
>>347647 My brother had an ork army and my dad had space marines I picked Tau because I thought the battle suits looked cool If I played again I'd probably play orkz Frankly I'm not a big fan of tau battlesuits anymore because I don't like how skinny their legs look around the ankles and the feet
>>347649 I considered playing Necron because I heard that they could revive dead units and I thought that sounded like the most op thing ever
FormerRei@mobile
>Tau Space Communist Pansies Necromancer are strictly superior *necrons Fuck
FormerRei@mobile
>>347648 Crons are great I don't lije some of the revised fluff though *like
FormerRei@mobileMaria
I liked Broadsides a lot their railcannons were cool
I had a nap this afternoon and I guess I had a dream inside a dream because the first part I was driving and I crashed into the front side of a bus so I went to turn around and pull over and assess the damage and they got out too but suddenly they took off and turned the corner then I 'woke' up from that with someone I knew in my bed and we talked for a bit before I woke up pissed off the second dream wasn't true
You gotta wonder though, what the pursuit of the surreal and super insular, or sometimes even intentionally entirely incomprehensible. humour, has on the people that consume it. The effect it has on them easy.
The series does such a good job of instilling depressing catharticism.
Anno
Like running my soul through a charcoal filter.
Kirara ๐ฆ
>>347707 yeah agreed I'm surprised how many shows we have like that this season
Anno
Have you been watch Houseki no Kuni at all?
Kirara ๐ฆ
I have not
Anno
I'd say give it a shot. It's entirely 3D CGI but it's pretty interesting. Even Squid that HATES 3D CGI has been keeping up with it. There's also a lot of that bleak depressiveness involved it.
The last 3D CGI show I watched turned out to be very sugoi, so maybe I'll check it out
Kirara ๐ฆ
>>347712 hmm I guess I'll give it a shot if you and ika say so
Anno
I mean I dunno if Ika would actually say he likes it. But I think Rika would say she does.

dril is kind of absurd, too, but he's also in a way a parody of some vague personality Like the racism dial tweet is definitely ABOUT someone, even if it's not a specific person

they probably made that up lol

wouldn't surprise me one of the sources on wikipedia calls them cousins
Anno
On the other hand it's probably not too difficult to nth degree of relation a lot of the Anglosphere to one royal family or another.
cortana is so great thanks to cortana on my new laptop i now know that it is jimi hendrix's birthday thanks for telling me these interesting facts that are relevant to me, cortana
Anno
I couldn't even get Cortana activated since I don't have a Microsoft or Windows or whatever account. And trying to get one set up was too much extra fluff and/or too much work at the time. So I just go my life without ever having access to Cortana. Oh woe is me.
Anno
I gave up windows quite some time ago too much bullshit for me
Anno
I'm actually more or less happy with Windows. I don't get any of the stuff that everyone else seems to complain about. My updates don't freeze up my ability to access my computer and I can defer them to a later time pretty much indefinitely. The OS hasn't been any less of a headache to navigate as it has been since Windows 7, and in some cases is more straightforward.
And ultimately I don't have to play the "will this game I want to play cooperate with Linux" game. So it works out pretty fine for me.
Kirara ๐ฆ
hey cortana what's your favorite song >bill murray singing the star wars theme song
Anno
yeah gaming on linux is a pain in the butt mostly my biggest annoyance with windows is that it tries to update when you shutdown or open. Happened several times where I wanted to leave class and windows wanted to update also with the anniversary update one of my project members had to wait 2 hours for the update to install before they could join us to work on it, so annoying
Anno
I don't even think that's mandatory anymore. The last time there was an update my power off menu gave me separate options for shutting down and restarting or doing the same with an update.
Either way I've rarely actually shut down my PC; usually I just put it in sleep mode, which dodges the whole update request. From my personal experience I just haven't ever understood the update problems.
Anno
must be more recent then, sounds like a good addition
Anno
Oh yeah I'm pretty sure if it is a new change, it came with their autumn update earlier this year.
Anno
that'd explain it, been using leenux for 1.5 years now I think
Kirara ๐ฆ
why can't cortana open paint if i say ok cortana open paint
Anno
Because Paint is DEAD. DEEEEAAAAAD
Anno
yeah didn't they remove paint?
Anno
which is weird because that's like the best windows program
Kirara ๐ฆ
it's on my laptop
Kirara ๐ฆ
i don't think paint is going away until 2018 or something
Anno
I must be misremembering then cortana just sucks then
Anno
And even then it's not like they're depriving the OS of a painting program. Paint is just being replaced with their new Paint 3D or whatever software. They're discontinuing support for Paint because it's fucking old and IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON GUYS.
Kirara ๐ฆ
ok there's an yeah i can use cortana to open paint 3d
Honestly all these new character functions on /moe/ go in one ear and out the other for me. It's not like I ever do anything other than write in dry, unexpressive text.

This game hasn't even been out a month and it's already over a quarter off retail price.

Oh and I'm getting a bunch of rpg books (6) in like a week. Cause my friend put off buying my birthday (Oct 18th) present and the publisher was having a huge sale for black Friday so he got me twice as much since it was 40% off. I selected a combination of items such that the price was a bit over $69 after discount.
>>347873 D&D circa 1974 So basically like low fantasy (magic items are fucking hard to get) but there are spell casters. Has a much heavier Appendix N inspired setting than any version of D&D since AD&D version 1. Appendix N is a section in the 1979 AD&D DMG that lists all (almost) of the written works that Gary Gygax considered to be a large influence on his writing in D&D. Also this rpg's judge (Dungeon Masster is trademarked) section recommends reading all of it. Err every thing listed. Which I'd put a llow estimate page wise of being 30,000 pages and a high end of 200,000 pages.

HERESY!

Depends whether or not you take an author being listed with no works listed means "read literally everything by them" or not.
