I probably should workout, actually Like, as a habit
Anno Hideaki
>>319064 Do you own any equipment? If you are interested in getting fit then I would highly recommend buying a dumbell and using that for biceps/triceps. You can also use it to improve your core/chest strength. If you have never worked out before then a 5kg dumbell would probably go a long way to helping you out. Then you can get a 10kg one after a year. At that point you'll probably be fit enough to not need anything else to be honest. >>319066 Are you more interested in muscle building or losing weight?
sk
I only have one of those training bikes
sk
Muscle, really I don't have much weight to lose, thanks to genetics mostly I assume
Anno Hideaki
>>319067 I am the same way. >>319069 I see. I think most of that would probably be tools nowadays, like carrying around mace in your pockets or something. Even if you are very muscular, a single punch can still kill you quite easily depending on the location and force behind it, so I would generally recommend against fighting if you can run away instead... Even if you do live the person you're fighting might break all of your fingers or gouge out your eyes or something too... Well, if you're like me then you probably won't do pushups every day even if you do want to get fit, so if you have the money then my recommendation is dumbells. If you're at the point that you can curl a 10kg for a few sets of 10 and doing tricep exercises in the same way then you're probably strong enough to hold your own in most fights muscle wise. I do think that the transition from 5-10kg is a lot easier than 10-15kg though, so you may or may not want to get a 12.5kg if you ever decide to go past 10kg. Otherwise I would say you should just get a 5kg one and then a 10kg one when you think that's too easy. My general rule is that if you can do 50 reps without your arms feeling like they are going to go numb or something then you are probably good to move up.
sk
I wanna be able to hold my own in a fight, really Cause I think that's important
sk
I don't mind using weapons, but I prefer not to need them Even in self defense, I think you can get in trouble for mace and stuff, don't think it's legal
sk
I've considered pushups, but I'm really lazy too Maybe I'll get some dumbells, yeah, I think there might be some in the building somewhere, actually. I'll go look for them later, see if they're here or not
sk
>>319068 This is good information I'm not good around people, so I've avoided stuff like gyms and whatever
Would some pushups before taking a shower, consistently, be effective at all, or is that something that would really just be a half-measure and not really do much in terms of building strength?
Anno Hideaki
>>319072 Can't hurt. You'd be working different muscle groups, so it's probably a good idea. I kind of dislike pushups since they make me light headed, so I don't really do them. I prefer bench pressing instead. This is very much a personal opinion, but I do not think that gyms are worth the money if you are not already at the point that you can at least lift a 15kg weight for one set with one of your arms. At least, not if you are not interested in cardio/weight loss. Heavier weights do cost more, so there is a point where going to the gym would be worth it, but you'd be paying over $20 a fortnight just to life a 5 or 10kg dumbell that you could get for the same amount. You can certainly work on different muscles to get a better all around physique there, but I would think that you would want to work on your arms a bit first. >>319076 Well it does highly depend on the person. Hence, it is a personal opinion. I think a lot of people might just use the gym as an excuse to socialize and hang out with mates while working out. Unless you're a body builder/dealing with weights heavy enough to be significantly dangerous I think you could do anything there from your own home. After buying the equipment, of course. It would be cheaper in the long run depending on what you're doing, but you'd have no spotter too. You do realize that I am not a super fit guy but just someone who occasionally works out, right?
Anno

sk
>>319073 Sounds like something I might as well do then Showers make me kinda light headed anyway, so that's not a problem for me, I guess
