can relate I'm back at it again with rimwold Vampire run this time, gonna try a different approach. Instead of keeping my wealth low, I'm just gonna aggressively recruit and have a fucking shitload of colonists
This can work real well with vampires, cause you can put them in deathrest when they're not needed or you're low on resources or something

>>1115642 well the default gamemode gives you 4 pawns to start, so that's very much doable, but the vampire only gives you two, and the naked brutality starts you with only one I've just kinda gotten bored with the default start
Anno
whats the best way to make it not borring?
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
oh ok so its kinda self inflicted theb
S C
yeah, basically >>1115645 I mean, naked brutality sure as shit will keep you from getting bored just because it's difficult as hell Naked brutality in the perma-winter areas is a lot of fun and starts off at MAX difficulty because you're nude, it's -ALot degrees outside, and nothing will ever grow outside, meaning you have no food, no medicine, no clothing, no nothing, for a LONG time
The ONLY way to actually make it is to immediately dismantle whatever random buildings are around for building materials, and build a little house around a geysir for heat, then once you've undone the hypothermia, you go fight a rabbit or something, which you will have to eat raw (butchering it is preferable mood-wise, but wastes some of the food value, and you can't afford to do that) you're going to have to deliberately starve your one pawn for extended periods because food is so risky and rare to get, you have to ration it to the point of absurdity
I did a run of it, and it was some of the most fun I've had in rimworld Eventually you get to hydroponics and that gives you a fairly reliable food source, but really you're gonna be eating raiders for a fairly long time Make sure you roll a cannibal, or the mental breakdowns from eating human beings are gonna actually kill your ass
In most runs, a breakdown is usually fine, unless it's a BIG one, but when you're naked in the permafrost, ANY breakdown other than "hide in room" will likely end the run outright, as they wander outside and freeze their limbs off
S C
It's one of the very few runs I've done where increasing my wealth to get more raiders has actually been the correct strategy Because well... the raiders are my only food source until I at the very least get electricity going, and that's difficult when you can't easily get stuff like steel and components
They also carry clothing, which is obviously very important when you can't grow cotton to make anything out of
Anno
ya it would knid of hard to process cotton in the middle of nowhere with no weaving wheel
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
you built a survival game inside rimworld
Anno
the graphics look kind of like that dawrf fort game
S C
it's heavily inspired by dorf fort But it's much more small scaled, and there are no z levels even really late-game (assuming you don't do the actual escape-the-planet ending) colonies usually cap at about 30 colonists or so I've never even gotten that many, most I've had is maybe 14-15
S C
Though there's no actual hard-cap on how many you can have There's a soft cap in that the game has an Intended Population variable in the background, which affects how likely something is to die outright when downed by damage Once you go too high, that chance goes to 100% meaning literally everyone downed by taking damage, whatever the damage actually is, die instantly But if they go down via bleeding, heatstroke, starvation, whatever, then they just fall over, so you can capture and recruit more that way TECHNICALLY you can have like, 1000 colonists if you want, but the game's gonna lag like crazy, just not built for it
S C
Really though the real fun comes from whatever random goals you set for yourself I'm working towards having a colony with a vampire army in cold storage Basically if I get raided, I wake them up, have them chug and\or snort some various performance enhancing drugs, and send them into battle
Vampires can't actually die unless their brain is destroyed, and ONLY the brain counts. They can lose their heart and they're still technically alive Which means you have demonic guards, and when you don't need them, they don't actually take up resources cause they can go into deathrest while not in use The deathrest itself can be enhanced with various bonuses, and they're completely paused while in that state. They don't get hungry, they don't get bored, they're just resting Addictions aren't paused though, I think, so technically they can beat any addiction except luciferium by just chilling in their casket for like a month Vampires are overall really fucking strong, but that deathrest part isn't optional. They have to deathrest like twice a year, for 5 days or so Well, "have to". They get REAL pissy and overall useless if they don't, but they are strictly speaking able to just push on
Anno
I really want a game that has the personality depth of something like Dwarf Fortress but is designed to maintain several hundred to
Anno
a thousand population But I reckon we're a long way off from the hardware affordability and programming efficiency that I'd ever be in a position to play something like that I love having hundreds of ants running around doing tasks in a way that the default two hundred cap of Dwarf Fortress doesn't quite perfectly scratch
S C
another really important thing with any naked brutality run is to roll someone with a high medical skill The frequency differs by geographic region, but you can randomly contract a disease, and if your guy isn't good at medicine, you just lose lmao I've lose SO many naked brutality runs in the jungle cause my boy got malaria and just ate dirt owing to a low medical skill
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
>>1115656 seems possible to me with enough planning and using the right language and engine
S C
I mean dorf fort as is can support a pretty high population, your computer just needs to be a bit more powerful than mine is I start eating shit at default pop cap, but my computer is real fucking old
It does require some planning on your end as the player though, you gotta make everything from rooms to hallways minimize possible choices and maximize efficiency Well, you can of course make heavy use of the path-priotization tool, that actually will net incredible FPS boost, especially in staircases and stuff the ol' dice-5-side staircase becomes REAL efficient if you make the middle staircase top priority
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
they should replace pathfinding with like an ant-like pheromone system that works from a bottom-up perspective building 1 has scent traces that get stronger that-a-way building 2 and so on then you dont have to do a billion recurisve path finding algorithms all the time
S C
I don't know what mod it is, or if it is a mod, but in rimworld I have an overlay that shows the heatmap of where anything actually spends time walking on the map It's not super useful just because there's no direct way to tell pawns to use a particular path or something, but it can be used to see stuff like "man they're REALLY going between these two areas a lot, I should move this to there" and whatnot And if that's not applicable, you can at least make flooring to increase their speed, light up the path, that sorta thing
Marsh shitposting on the go via Telephone
Lmao there was a high court case about a guy who pissed on another guys face during a work trip and whether or not the employer was liable
Marsh shitposting on the go via Telephone
Not like workplace bullying The guy just stumbled back to the hotel room drunk and did it by accident Supposedly traumatised the other guy and gave him PTSD
Anno
should have gave him a fetish instead
S C
Rimworld does always end up with you committing atrocities, one way or the other The first time I had a vampire show up, had never seen one before, it was a hostile one, so naturally we killed his buddies and captured him And then I was like "well, I COULD forcefully take the vampirism for one of my guys, but that would kill him cause his genes aren't regrown... hm..." Anyway, long story short we sawed his legs off and left him starving in bed for a year or so, letting me make one guy a vampire, and keep the prisoner vampire for another one later Since it's a vampire, you don't actually have to feed him, so it's really just a single bed somewhere in the base that exists
S C
Naturally, now having a vampire myself, that same thing has to be done to at least one random captured raider Except you gotta feed that one Vampires need blood regularly, after all
Anno

S C
are there semi-auto pistols designed to look like a revolver? Like with a cylinder and stuff But still magazine fed

Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\

Anno

Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
pieces that arent defended and can be taken
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
for that anno needs to develop their board vision i.e. being able to see quickly what is currently hanging, and also, what will happen after making a particular move
I got trapped scrolling down the front page of reddit. Knew I didn't like it but just kept going. was there a good 10-15 minutes how long does it take to become a Redditor? is it contagious
Anno
Too late, you're already one
Anno
I've been browsing the survivor subreddit idc too much
I've been watching this guy using a modded storyteller AI in rimworld that turns it into a wavebased base defense game, and MAN it gets crazy towards the end He's being assaulted by so many raiders each time, he has multiple cremation stations and butcher tables going nonstop for like a full day afterwards, with his colonists running back and forth burning or chopping up the corpses, cause if he doesn't, they'll rot and spread disease
S C
for example, at the point in the playlist I am currently, he's being invaded by 700 lads he himself has 35 colonists, but just due to the nature of this challenge, he's employing a lot of cheesy strats, so it's very much doable, even if micro-intensive and very dependent on having his colonists cram drugs into their bodies Not really for outright stat boosts, though that's in there too, mostly to keep them happy in a drug-induced euphoria, as well as awake, since at this stage raids last for actual days
apparently my old employer owes me money guess I'll log into my old employee account and see what's sup
S C
sorta suddenly realized I've not actually eaten like, you know, actual food all damn day I've been just snacking the whole time, on like, nuts and stuff
So I guess I'm making some actual food once I get up tomorrow
S C
I guess nuts do sorta count as food, it's not like it's candy, but still gotta have some other food groups, too can't JUST be nuts and raisins and dried fruit
S C
Not that peanuts are actually nuts, technically, but whatever Honestly I think that's stupid, they're peanuts, obviously they're nuts
>>1115774 dang that king's all out in the open and yet can't move nice mating net
S C
I have once more increased the mod stack in rimworld Now with a whole slew of new stuff, new guns, new armor, new clothes, new furniture, new genes And also I think people in general will have somewhat randomized genomes overall, which really I had thought would be the case for the biotech dlc to begin with, but it's not By default, it just adds more types, or races or whatever, it doesn't have each individual have a chance at some random mutation or random gene which kinda sucks, it makes it a dlc which primary mechanic you don't interact with until real lategame, or possibly not at all
