Starsector is really damn good for an effectively free game I've spent the first ingame year and a half smuggling drugs and potentially voluntarily harvested organs between star systems, and I've got a million credits in the bag Now I gotta figure out where to set up my own empire
Well, at this point I'm just doing occasional trades to generate a little bit of bonus money while I survey a bunch of star systems for suitable planets to begin my own empire There's no good reason to start out with anything but the best, so it's taking a while It'll be where I begin my own faction, after all

in starsector news, I have discovered a far more efficient method of acquiring cash Sure, I could smuggle illegal (and legal for that matter, as tariffs are like 30% across the universe) goods, you know buy them for cheap somewhere, haul them to somewhere they're in demand, avoid the cops, the standard smuggling operation But then I started thinking ...why am I buying them, when I could just hire some marines to steal them from pirates instead, and THEN sell them for pure profit minus the cost of the occasional dead marine?
So I've been really fucking up the life of a few pirate stations that produce some expensive stuff and selling that shit for massive cash infusions Long term this will completely fuck up their econ cause the station can't handle that sort of frequent harassment and will become abandones... but then again, that's also good for me because it means the pirates will, as a result, always need whatever was produced there, since they have none econ anymore And I can fill that demand
raiding for loot? You just bring a buncha marines, launch a raid, tell them what to grab for you, and you're good
I have a pirate base in the starsystem next to my own home system, too, which... will likely one day become a cash cow I might even set up my own colony in that system at some point if there's any benefit to killing pirates in and of itself, I can just have my cops bully them

You don't NEED AI, but you in effect need AI if you want a BEEG empire, cause your character can only administrate 2 colonies personally But each AI core can fill that position, and do it better than your own character You can also hire administrators for it, but I think there's a cap, and also unlike AI, they want a wage

Well the hazards aren't going anywhere, unless there's some end game terraforming tech But the income it produces SHOULD eventually outstrip the hazard pay The damn planet accounts for like, a quarter of my monthly expenses at the moment The hazard pay alone is most of that well, it's all of it I just gotta get an administrator to handle the colony so I can make another one that's less hazardous and can pull in some actual money to shore it up The home world, my first one, does have positive cash flow despite the hazard pay, which I will eventually be able to just cut once it's big enough that the money pumps, but that's a terran world so that much is to be expected

No what I need is one really good capital ship for myself, and a horde of smaller ships to support it basically I need 1 capital, 2 Big, 4 medium, 8 small, maybe And then sprinkle in some extras to fill gaps And then I gotta kit everything out so it's fit for purpose

The AI in starsector is much more advanced than anything we have made They are the pinnacle of fiction AI, perfect in every sense of the way, at least cognitively. AIs in starsector have been known to orchestrate decades-long pranks, only revealed to be pranks due to some specific person's life experiences during those decades coming to understand that not only was the AI doing an elaborate bit, but it was always the intention that they specifically would come to that understanding that day.
