ive been building up a steadier line of work that is actually paying me a decent rate, for me at least, in the 20-25 an hour range but MAN my partner is really struggling to respect my time and appreciate how much im doin
im spendin the first 5-7 hours of every day helping them manage their business at the cafe, as it's summer on the coast and getting very busy, and they don't have enough help there to stay on top of it so i put in from 6-11 or 6-1 helping out there doing errands / store runs, stocking, loading ice bags, preparing beverages, and washing ALL the dishes they go through that's 25-35 hours a week of my time being asked of me, just to help out pay is negligible and i'm doing it to help not to get paid, but minimum wage here is abysmal so it works out to 175 a week for 25-35 hours, which i just give back to my partner to help with rent anyway
but i get done with those 5 hours or so during the heavy morning rush, am asked to wait around for a while until they get off, then get home at 1:00 - 1:30 just to now START my own work day after getting up at 5:30, eight hours earlier and then they lay guilt trips on me if i try to work through the evening instead of spend time with them (even though i already did spend time with them at the cafe) so i try to move my work into the night period when they're asleep, but that causes drama if i don't go to sleep with them
like when the hell am i supposed to do my own work? they suggested maybe i only do two or three hours of work a day after we get back home but fuck now if im making 25 an hour, im not gonna sacrifice the potential to earn 200-250 in one day by working ten hours just to make less than that in a whole week at the shop
i dont know how to deal with the kind of immaturity and neediness and guilt tripping is going on here it's so unfair to me and i really feel like im not being respected or appreciated when im trying to do nice things to help secure their business and their future why am i not allowed to
moon
to secure my own financial future too i spent like 7 months homeless last year and i never want to have to experience that again there's no reason to be passing up money when it's available to be made
but moreover im the one trying to work 14-15 hours a day and i dont complain about it for even a second because i enjoy the work im doing a lot (at least my work) it feels like im having to do all the heavy lifting and burden and im the one who has no free time, but yet im still the one that has to accommodate the whining because they have to spend their leisure time alone or with other friends instead of with me, even though i have zero leisure time
>>1157631 well yea that doesn't aound very fair to me you've gotta assert your own boundaries or else it sounds like this person will take whatever they can
moon
im happy to be helping and helpful i just need what im doing to be appreciated otherwise im not gonna keep doing it a little respect for my time is all i ask since im lending them a lot of my time
when you give someone your time and they don't respect it and keep you waiting around pointlessly, it's unbearable i try to bring it up but the immaturity angle is just overwhelming i think they've probably gone most of their life whining to their family until they get their way
they're better than that and i wish they wouldn't do it, they certainly don't need to
>>1157637 necessity really i don't really have many options i don't have any family left and i moved a long way out here to be with them i don't have the means to be independent at the moment, until i can get a few months of work in at least and have steadier pay coming in
>>1157638 it kinda hurts to see cuz i do care i just have to put up with getting hurt and watching them make things worse for both of us when they don't have to i dont really like the expression of love that takes the form of how much pain you're willing to absorb from someone though i think it's very soul-crushing
it might explain a lot of my life, but I don't really understand how you and several other people put up with this kind of thing I couldn't do it

i dated someone briefly earlier this year who had like zero coping skills it was pretty painful to see how their trauma had left them with none conflict resolution ability but i had to end things pretty quick, it was not tenable
moon
it's weird to me in a lot of ways because i think im one of the more traumatized people ive known in life but i usually just cope quietly on my own because other people open up a lot of vulnerable wounds when i see people struggling to cope with stuff like their mom disagreeing with them or having to cancel a friend date and reschedule or spending an evening alone
i dunno maybe i lost my human element when i battered up my brain i have needy moments too i guess but pushing my needs onto other people is a painful thing to do somewhere along the line you gotta learn, right, like "hey what makes this situation less painful instead of more painful? maybe i should try that"

>>1157644 self soothing is a foundational adult skill fr
>>1157647 ya it would be cool to have some sort of EKG tech or a brain wave scanning tool and a monitor for visual output. would be like a irl realt time screen saver the you could shift by having other thoughts, or energy spikes.
i feel like your thalamus can already do that on its own there's definitely enough mapping going on between the cerebellum and the thalamus to assemble a brainmap getting the visual interface to see it seems the only difficulty
but there's some cool feedback looping between the parallel fibers in the thalamic projections to the cerebrum and the corpus callosum communicating between cerebral hemispheres it's like an echo kind of with the thalamus noise gating and getting the cross-hemispheric communications from the corpy cally you can get bilateral feedback and map out which regions have all the traffic instead of assembling that information by region then deconstructing what each region does to create an interface, your brain already speaks that language, so you just get it for free
i do get visuals with that but it's not a visual map of the entire brain it's more like a rotating panel, like those CCTV monitors that switch between different relays every few seconds but in this case the monitor being broadcast through the thalamus is the most electrically active channel so i watch what's happening along one channel, and as the electricity (action potential) projects beyond that channel's threshold, it switches to whichever channel is closest to that electrical convoy
i dunno stuff like this is really cool to me and mathematics i wish i had time to document it better and do some mathematical psychology with modern AI it would be a lot easier to assemble that depth of knowledge into coherent structures and publish it
but nah i gotta watch vinny vinesauce play poop sounds in a toilet museum for a couple hours instead i do admittedly kinda like vinny though he aint bad
>>1157650 a lot of this comes with being able to keep the autistic part of your brain occupied with a very niche specific task and letting the rest of the brain commutatively explore and observe thoughts from the background like for me that's the acoustics and the words if i have enough word salad coming through that i dont have to pay a lot of attention to but it serves as a fidget spinner for my language center then the rest of my brain can stop playing chaperone for a little while and just enjoy the in-flight movie going on in the background
from what i understand it's comparable to people's experiences on psychedelics, but ive never taken any psychedelics so i can't really confirm or deny that it definitely makes sense that we'd be sensitive to the underlying structure and heuristics of our brain when we let the autism of consciousness free for a while to keep it from hogging all the bandwidth that should be occupied not free
It's insane how long they've supported X4 and the effort they put into it to this day Being able to actually influence the other factions beyond beating them into a pulp is huge

S C
I mean it's a very complex game, but you aren't really forced to do anything in particular There are several campaign stories that offer a little bit of structure, but aside from the fact that one of the later DLCs added a sort of home base that's tied into its own questline and stuff, you never really have to interact with systems you don't wanna
You will inevitably start building an empire, though, just cause it makes it easier to do the stuff you want, afford big ships and do combat with the AI scourge But it's because you decide to, not because the game outright gatekeeps you from doing the stuff you want You CAN make that money just trading, you can just build up the rep to buy the stuff you want, but it's easier to swing both of those with industry
A good starting tip is to make the Paranid like you, though Pump your rep with those mfers, cause their engines are pretty much best in class across the board, with some downside or another that I can't for the life of me remember And better engines means everything else is quicker
When I got to the point I was building fleets, I would send every one of them over to paranid territory once they were outfitted with other stuff, just to swap their engines out Expensive, but well worth it Well, maybe not for the truly HUGE ships, the better engines don't do too much for you at that scale, the cost benefit is minimal, but still
I'm not easy to make friends or call some one friend. And usually, most of the time, I don't find myself going around and about befriending strangers. dare to say, I may grasp some northern/japanese temperment, cultural, societhal imprints. it's just, I has not been namefugging much, or at least I don't find it comfortable, or not accustomed to it. but, reading some one, here for example, after a while, you (I), start to get a grasp sense of a character, vibe, etc sometimes, maybe some of you caught yourself on a wish to slip in to dms
maybe the notion of a friend, could be alternated as a subscriber in the context of modern web
I mean I get that somewhat, but while I know it kind of goes for everyone, like everyone is a different person dependent on context, my persona is in many ways a lie in all contexts "I" don't really exist anywhere, I think, so you end up with a very different person everywhere
What's very consistent though is I don't really initiate anything The few friendships I actually have are actively maintained by the other person, at least as far as opening conversation goes. I just don't really do that much, feels wrong, combination of anxiety that I'm annoying and clingy and a lack of real impulse to socialize in the first place.
I don't like being a loner, exactly, but I don't dislike it enough to seek out or put effort into other people

But... point 1) it is nice thing to have, if you want to chat with people online directly, I'm not aware of any better alternatives point 2) they have chatrooms. that's also a nice thing. because you look like pretty chatty person who enjoys to chat.
I don't have your discord. If some one asked for your discord on doushio, that wasn't me. I'm not going to commit a sin by askin your discord, because discord is - Satanic. (they way they treat their users & customers, it's spooky) and it's not just discord - litterally every other messaging/chat platform, other than xmpp/irc , is not usable\sustainable by long term modern standarts. (I'm not using steam either, sorry) I've heard/though you like linux...
S C
I mean you have my discord, don't you? or is that a different anon?
well, that's fair I do use discord, though I mean I "use" steam, too, but I'm inundated with scam attempts because my tf2+csgo(now cs2) backpacks are very valuable, so I basically never respond to messages there For that matter I'm perma-invisible just cause I'm not comfortable with advertising my presence (mental illness)
yeah I mean I use linux I like it in the sense that windows is garbage and mac is worse + not an option for a custom built desktop I mean you CAN install mac OS if you really, really, really want to, but from what I understand it's both really touch and go, and also the OS overall is just outright worse than even windows is for basically anything other than compatibility with apple devices, of which I have none
honestly I'd probably sooner go without a phone than get an iphone if literally forced, I'd use a macbook instead of a desktop, but even then I'd probably look into forcing linux into the abomination Cause like I am absolutely not going through the effort of learning a whole different OS that's worse across the board, just for the sake of using a fucking mac
someanno
I had macbook air, gave a try macos for a month, then noticed how it's unusable without tiling wm, so I librebooted it with ArchLinux %) was usable after that. I don't mind software pricetags. I really (before) wanted to give Mac a try & fair chance. I wanted to support them for being alternative to Windows, being in BSD family + terminal. buggiest problem for me was their laggy dull dumb UI after i3wm, I was not able to "relearn mac & unlearn i3" I felt like imbecile moving windows around, arranging them cascade with mouse, my productivity declined by -200%. it's a religious cult sect, I don't have other explanation.
apple is just such an awful company to hitch your horse to, I'd fight tooth and nail not to like oh great, a lot of stuff Just Works, with the caveat that everything is controlled by apple Even windows isn't that tyrannical, and microsoft is bad enough
I don't know how doushio.com is sustainable long term as communication relay. & I don't know whether I'll be here. But it's nice to stay in touch through other mediums as well, because I like some people here. so, IMHO, it's recommended for you & rei, rene, kirara, marsh, moon, etc & co (anyone else I forgor?) to publish your xmpp jids.

bro why would i even buy a jar of anchovies when i have fish sauce tbh
Rei !p8eYCadcMo
>>1157783 >Samu might need anchovies for their solid form or distinct texture, unlike liquid fish sauce. Anchovies contribute umami in dishes like Caesar dressing, pizzas, or antipasto, where their briny flesh adds depth. Fish sauce lacks that physical presence and cannot replicate recipes requiring anchovy chunks. Plus, cultural dishes might traditionallly specify whole anchovies, preserving their role even with fish sauce available.

here is my stupid take\vent : websites are bad for communication, and were never architected properly as means for communication medium. so it's usually like: a) I find a nice person to be friends with on a some website then b) I lose sight of them. either because site stop working or person stopping using site, and site (as said) was never meant/designed to be a communication software solution.

nl and gang talking about bocca reminds me earlier this year, a friend of my dad's, the lady running the local bocca team (which tbf is just like 2 retired people and mostly just like, developmentally challenged people so not a big thing or anything) passed on Since she was the leader and now no longer present, someone had to actually take that up turns out she'd been embezzlin' like crazy, not huge amounts cause it's just a local basically hobby thing, but still a sizeable sum over the years, those books were utterly cooked

>>1157872 there are different implementations depwnsing on browser
there is no FSF GNU FLOSS implementathion of authenthicator for FIDO WebAuthn & standart seems in decline. looks like grift scam to sell TPM keys. there been some critics with published valid criticisms. design shilled by fido alliance seems utterly moronic & harmful. lacks of user adoption. it's more important than picking cars, whether it'll harm atmosphere or use hydrogen.
Well you're not wrong that it's a defeatist approach to life, but it remains where I end up nothing really feels permanent to me, probably anxiety or something I dunno

theres loads of research out there that points to cars petrol/or other wise really not being as bad as factorys and other polution imo
I'm not trying anything so you can scratch that one
I was really just saying I've accepted that nothing's like, permanent if moe disappears, I won't be happy about it, but I know it will one day same with every other method I have of keeping in contact with people they might go before me, or I before them, but it's a certainty that both will go one day
>>1157882 brother its an open standard you can make the keys yourself on your computer there's clients that provide this

browsers just don't provide this to normal people because normal people don't know how to back up their shit it's not a scam it's just practical

give me at least 1 source code implementation of an authenthicator & browser, for BSD & Linux, that would work for registration on shin.doushio, won't ask for separate device\tpm , and will generate keys ala ssh|gpg. >>1157899 ok, let me try to review, 12 options for software authenticators:

so pass key webauthn is a protocol, that doesn't have\generate a password nor private keypair, it authethicates based on 2FA = biometrics + hardware key physical device. both of which could be stolen, compromised, used against will. therefore add no real security.
that just increases surveillance which is not a synonym to security. >>1157904 okay. but less than gpg pgp ssh nostr public+private_keypair or tripcode e.g. if those are lost, (not stolen!), data could remain secure. even despite being irrecoverable. you gotta adore infosec cryptography course. @rei have any inputs?
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
biomettics and hardware keys add no security? you gotta cool these takes down
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
passkeys are like a hundred times more anonymous than a email+password combo nuclear takes
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
how tf are any of those more secure than a public private keypair it's all just key management nobody is going into my iphone secure enclave and stealing my passkeys
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
also no one uses GPG except people buying drugs on the dark web it's too easy to fuck up qn accidentally forget to encrypt your email and the tools are too janky security people don't recommend it because the UX is so poor no body ever sustains a gpg based conversation anyway
when I was a kid, I was sittin at bus stop, in very sunny hot day, above 30 celsius. and there was no any sun shield or roof at bus stop. so an adult tall man in a hat came, and stood up between me and sun ray, casting shadow. I had relief and been silently grateful.

> How are apes so jacked if they don't work out and eat mostly plants??
> Different evolutionary pressures. The transition from forest to plains caused our ancestors to develop longer legs and less developed upper bodies, abandoning digitigrade knuckle walking for upright plantigrade walking on two legs.
> Humans have also evolved to have muscles that are weaker than the other great apes but substantially more energy efficient. [...] Human muscle has evolved to be light, fast, and above all energy efficient. It's because our ancestors didn't need to climb trees nearly as often and relied on long distance running.
what if due to different evolutionary pressures in modern times humans evolve back into ape mode
Anno
not gonna happen no Godzilla vs king kong

Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
a // i guess we'd have a whole bunch of super jacked women too eww at least marsh would be living it up marsh junior MMMMCCCCXXXX
>>1157938 it actually is kinda fucked up how just the positioning of our muscle vs a gorilla's does a lot of work
evolutionary pressures really don't align with more torque for humans though if anything you might expect our muscles to get even weaker over time, but I mean really we've kind of banished a lot of evolution to the shadow realm as a species we're not free from nature, but overall there's not a lot of things influencing whether or not you end up having kids, as far as genetics go
WEll it depends on if muscles really do matter after all, of a sudden, and the brainiak side of things is still there maybe, it can be genetically passed on to ones offspring. It should be a matter if in fact having kids and passing it on to them genetically speaking.

Denmark is a center of the world that shaped our modern human civilization. if you look at spanish, french, british nobility, they all come from danish migrant tribes, settlers.
I like isometric graphics. good for iGPU. I like embedded vga.

I'm hardcore 2d fan. but sometimes I find myself appreciating aesthethics of a pseudo 3d pre rendered in to 2d (sprites). like that volumetric apple, with shadows and lightworks, that seem rtx, when it's not rtx. do you like rimworld? I had finnland friend streamer who was heavily in to rimworld.
I don't play all that many games, but zomboid is one I always come back to I dunno if they made farming doable again yet, but I'm thinking I'll head back in
S C
yeah rimworld is great I haven't gotten the latest DLC yet, and I won't get the abomination one (cause it sucks) but I'm gonna get odyssey, whenever it goes on sale
annosome
I remember few top-down 2.5d isometric games from my childhood, one was about shooting aliens. in roguelike/Fortnite manner.
annosome
maybe some day I could install something to play. I haven't played in a while.
Not really I mean in absolute base concept, maybe, but DayZ is more about just getting guns so you can kill other players, but zomboid is a lot more about gathering resources and building up a base The gameplay loop is still looting runs, but there's a lot more other stuff like farming, animal husbandry now, construction, cooking, crafting, and whatever Basically DayZ is the most boring game ever made if you play alone, but zomboid's perfectly good singleplayer
early game you're always working towards a kind of shopping list too cause winter is coming and you're gonna have a rough time if you don't get some stuff sorted like you need a generator, ideally 2, one for home and one for a nearby gas station, a working car, ideally several for mechanics practice, and you gotta stock up on food and warmer clothes and stuff
It DOES lack a real end-game at present, though, since you do reach a point where there's no particular reason to leave your base cause you're growing all the food you need and stuff, but with all the new crafting stuff they added in build 42, you at least have some motivation towards interfacing with that, so you venture out into the zombie horde for resources in that department
annosome
oh truee true <3 thanks!
S C
I do recommend going through the workshop for some strictly quality of life type mods, though, even for your first time playing Just stuff like UI changes and whatnot, though I guess playing without mods first will make it clearer what stuff could do with a mod changing it
The UI in zomboid is... I mean it works, but that's all, it's not really good Very, very clunky
annosome
maybe, but not right now, I need to go to have proper breakfast with some chicken
I prefer Open Source games, that I can compile myself. written in specific functional safe languages. I can donate to developer, if necessary. besides that, I don't install\run much.
I mean it's not FOSS, but caves of qud is another game I sometimes go back to not often though, it's just a bit too bothersome to get back into after an absence because it's so hotkey and mechanics heavy it's a lot of fun when you get into it properly, but the learning curve is steep and you absolutely will die many times before you finish the tutorial quest line
well, if you count the like, first 2-3 quests of the main quest line to be tutorial, which they kinda are One of them in particular is the great filter, even for experienced players who stat their character imperfectly to try some weird new build live or die, you might just end up without a tongue and then you're softlocked until you find a way to remedy it cause you can't talk, and thus can't talk to people
annosome
yeah, I've checked out once, saw caves of qud, it seem really Amazing, I don't remember, maybe I even tried to play it, and it felt really nice. when I just discovered whole roguelike indie foss scene. I like ARG & LARP too. and board games.
last part in your post does sound a little bit spooky, indeed
