it's just heroin or something she's not really that bad that identity stuff is probably schizophrenia, she's clearly got paranoid delusions
I know it is, but I can find humor in the humor of a high addict because it's still the drugs doing that, but it's harder to laugh at someone who's like, I dunno, seeing ghosts and thinks the CIA is after their brain stem for real y'know?
Like I feel like you can find humor in the intoxicated behavior while still acknowledging the addiction isn't funny
It's the same thing! They're both chronic neurological diseases! You can laugh at both of them, one isn't more sad than the other. In fact, addiction is probably worse than schizophrenia because addiction is often a terminal disease.
That's fair, I guess But addicted people are sober sometimes, too Are schizophrenics like, 'sober' in a sense at times? Like the people who think music videos are hidden messages from the illuminati to them, do they have moments where they're like "holy shit, I am actually crazy"?
S C
I guess there's variance there, though I know there are a fair amount of schizophrenic people who know the weird shit they see isn't real
Schizophrenics tend to have periods of lucidity. But they always believe what they believe and very rarely realize they're delusional. Hallucinations, they sometimes get, but delusions, no.
But you don't know you're like that when you're like that, so it's perfectly fine! Most of them are happy to be delusional because it makes them special.
And moreover, paranoid delusions are usually protective in nature.
It's not like I think schizophrenic people are themselves scary, I'm pretty sure they're less likely to be a violent person than like, other people, but BEING one is a fear I have It's fucking horrifying to think I could be a raving fucking lunatic, and not even recognize I'm being wild
The statistics that say schizophrenics are less likely to be violent are usually misleading. Schizophrenics are usually treated for their schizophrenia, which involves using antipsychotics. Antipsychotics are basically neutering your brain. It's like a tiny temporary lobotomy. So of course they're less violent, but that's because they're all being sedated.
If you talk to paranoid schizophrenics when they're actively psychotic and unmedicated, they tend to harbor more violent and even homicidal ideation than neurotypical people. Out of all the schizophrenics I've worked with, only one never expressed to me their desire or intention to kill someone or multiple people they believed were coming after them. They like to get firearms but when they can't buy those legally, they usually get knives and stuff like that. A schizophrenic I worked with until a few weeks ago had a katana (allegedly).
>>881796 It's misleading to say they're less violent. It's like saying people in prison go to the movie theater less frequently than free people. It may be true, but it's obfuscating something.
I guess it makes sense But there's gotta be plenty unmedicated people like that, too, out and about in the US, right? It's the fucking US, buying insulin takes a village And are those people more often actually violent, or does it tend to end at ideation?
Unmedicated schizophrenics go to jail before they can do violence because they sleep on the street. Usually they get arrested for drug possession, loitering, sleeping in a public place, public urination, stuff like that.
Schizophrenics who live alone and have a lot of support are often unmedicated but they end up in jail a lot too because they're doing weird shit, threatening people, causing public disturbances, etc. Most will not use medication if they can avoid it because it does essentially lobotomized them. The recent one told me he can't use his medication because it blocks his ability to use magic and access prophecy.
The only treatment you'll find in the west is medication and sometimes assisted living, but they usually end up medicated there too. And no, the only way to stop delusions is powerful antipsychotics. As far as we know.
Kirara 🍄 /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
But delusions are typically functional if you examine them phenomenologically, so hypothetically if you could resolve enough of a person's inner problems you could potentially get the delusions to fade but the amount of attention and work that would take is impossible. Nobody would be able to do it, you'd have to spend years working with a single person.
Is that like, a lack of research into this stuff kind of thing, or is it more of a "we've tried a lot of shit, and really nothing seems to doa fucking thing"?
Kirara 🍄 /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
The latter.
Kirara 🍄 /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
Schizophrenia is related to brain abnormalities. It's not just chemical, it's anatomical.
It's about size. Certain parts of the brain are smaller in schizophrenia than in non-schizophrenics. The hypothalamus, amygdala, hippocampus, and others I don't remember. In people who have a high likelihood of schizophrenia when they cross over into having it, some of those areas can shrink a tiny bit but they're smaller before schizophrenia hits, too. Although usually if someone with the potential gets past their 30s, the size kind of evens out and the chances of getting hit with it goes down a bit.

They left critical role on a huge cliffhanger, so now I'm watching the first campaign Well, trying, for the 5th time It's got such poorer sound quality, and the comparably serious nature of the second campaign has SPOILED me
Like, the second campaign starts off like Here's a buncha characters, they're a bit wacky And then a few episodes in, Matt Mercer basically looks at the camera and goes "THEMES" And then you have 100 episodes of Sam Riegel unknowingly playing a trans allegory

Listen motherfucker I've been following Critical Role addictively for like four years now Don't assume I don't know my shit And let me finish my line before you assume what I'm talking about. Nott was an unknowing trans allegory but he is also really, really smart. He throws one of the best curveballs at the party in campaign one and makes like everyone feel like they super fucked up in the best way. And steals the scene in the final post-game one-shot they do as Vox Machina
>>881851 Oh that's cool, looking forward to taht I feel like I'll miss the more serious nature of campaign two though, vox machina feels a lot more like, "not super serious" which is fine, it's probabyl gonna be a lotta fun anyway, but I'm gonna miss the more grounded way they roleplay in M9 I think

>>881852 Isn't that a rare albino pineapple But yeah Assault Lily definitely has some weird hip fetishist doing the character designs. Even in the first episode you could see some girls had WIDE hips under their uniforms. It's a bit weird.

>>881855 How far have you gotten in campaign one? The Briarwood arc is generally where things really start getting cohesive. And you can kinda feel them transitioning from their homegame antics to "oh wait we can make a STORY out of this". Plus once you get to the Chroma Conclave then things reaaaally get serious. Matt is great at defining for the players that things are -actually- that bad and they respond to that. Before that point, like the Briarwood arc is kind of serious but also still a lot of goofy shenanigans, the game is still mostly just Vox Machina being sheer idiots that stumbled into success and herodom. After that, they've got to be heroes

>>881860 Yeah it was a lot of fun! That setting was set up really, really well. I loved the orange grit of the cyberpunk city they live in. Very Blade Runner-poi. And the characters are so smack out of Dangan Ronpa that you kinda just love to see it.
Also if you haven't you should look at the first episode of Munou na Nana. I don't necessarily think you'd need to follow along for the full ride but that first episode is pretty something.
>>881858 I just hope I grow to love their old characters as much as the new ones I'm actually very happy I started with M9, because if I'd started with the first campaign, I don't think I'd ever have even caught an interest for this stuff But with M9 there was like, an immediate sense of a sort of story, these characters existed independently of eachother and weren't just "a party", you know? I didn't need to hear about Caleb's past to understand there was a reason he was there, independent of like, Jester or Fjord It was there, and I ended up learning all the characters' names a few episodes in and caring about their journeys
Anno
>>881859 There's a lot of rough edges that need sandpaper-ing out for the early parts of campaign one. Some understandable ones, of course, like them learning how to be streamers, and just generally transferring to being a public game. But there's also "stuff" that happens early on and Orion Acaba leaves like twenty or something episodes in. The whole stuff around that kinda makes that first story arc around ... I can't remember the name of the dwarven city, a bit of a slog. >>881866 Not really, the adventures in Kraghammer are pretty unrelated to the rest of their adventures and aren't character focuses like the Briarwood arc is. The biggest thing you miss out on is the inroduction to Kima, who's one of Vox Machina's life long allies and is all around a cool gay paladin.
You could probably outright skip to episode sixteen if you want to get to the part where they enter Vasselheim and get to enjoy a bit of a mini-arc where they start getting a lot of their friends to guest star on the show, like internet icons Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton, or voice actor legends Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. A few of them will show up periodically throughout the campaign so it might be good to be familiar with them. If that doesn't interest you too much though the Briarwoods arc starts at episode twenty-four and that's where shit really starts getting real.
>>881867 They've reached the point in D&D where reincarnation spells (not just reviving) are feasible if they've got the components. Though Matt does have homebrewed reincarnation rules that does make it harder based on factors (namely if they've been dying a lot so far) so they might want to keep Cad out of the line of fire. >>881872 Sure, but he also doesn't want people who love their characters dearly to have to lose them. He treads a very fine line between the cruelty of the dice and the empathy of a human being that I think only really comes with the like, literally two decades of being a DM has granted him.

But only once they literally do it for the Switch because it probably can't stomach better graphics than what they're putting on it do they start to complain. Still it's nice to see a games journalist site giving a AAA studio such a deservedly awful review.

>>881867 Also the Mighty Nein has "WELCOME TO THE MIGHTY NEIN"d so many people that they're already way over the nine-count. Essek, Pumat, a couple of the guest s they've had on stream. Honestly even with Molly maybe not actually being dead they're still well over the count of nine!

>>881878 Oh yeah, that's true I just meant in terms of PC count, one more kill would get them to 9
Anno
>>881864 There's definitely a bit of a shortcoming in the first campaign here, in that by the time they start streaming, campaign one had been running for like two or three years. So a lot of the early feeling out the competition stuff that you saw in the first episodes of campaign two happened ages ago for Vox Machina. They're also definitely bit goofier than The Mighty Nein. For most of the pre-stream campaign one, Vox Machina were actually known as the SHITs (Super High Intensity Team), a suggestion I believe of Sam/Scanlan's. It was only after they saved the literal emperor of Tal'Dorei and were heroes of the realm that they thought "Wait, maybe we need a better party name than that". Not long after that was the start of the stream.
That said though despite their RPG inexperience in campaign one, I think when it comes to playing characters, the lot of them still absolutely smash it out of the park. A lot of them are trained stage actors or have been acting since they were kids. They're sure not A or even B-list actors, but they've still got more experience getting inside the heads of the characters they portray than the vast majority of people.
Well, i skipped to ep 16, and I'll take it from there I'm sure it'll still be fun, but it's been a struggle to try to start watching it because M9 is just... so much better from the word go, at least for my preferences

>>881887 Ashley used to be regular player back in their homegame days. But right about the time they moved to streaming she got a gig playing ... I don't think it was the lead character but maybe the second lead, in some police/crime thriller that was filming on the east coast of the States (everyone else lives in and around LA on the other side of the continent) That required her to live mostly full-time over on the east coast and since Critical Role starts streaming at 22:00 east coast time, after a day of exhaustive filming there was no way she was going to be even able to call in through Skype or whatnot to play. The tv serial she was in ran for the entire length of campaign one and the first couple ... years? of campaign two. I mean if you've seen all of campaign two then you definitely notice the point where Yasha stops popping in and out and stays with them for good. That was when the show she was filming on wrapped and she could return properly to LA and the Crit Role family. It was a very happy time for a lot of people.
>>881890 Oh yeah, there was a very definitive point there It's very unfortunate though, since it's lead to her having less real development than like, even Molly in some ways, even this far in And molly fucking croaked like 1/5th into the current runtime or something
Recently, I have a lot of tiny cuts on my right hand. Every morning, I wake up with new ones. Just one or two new cuts every morning. But it's weird, you know, there's nothing in my bed that should be able to cut me. I have a knife, but it's on my nightstand and it's in a sheath. On my fingers, on my hand, and now on my wrist. I wonder where they're coming from? I got one on my finger yesterday that was kinda big, it looked like it had been bleeding but I couldn't find any blood anywhere except for on my finger.
Anno
Did like a sliver of wood or glass or something maybe get mixed up in your bedsheets Or maybe Laz is snacking on you while you're asleep. Some times I'll be looking in the mirror or getting dressed in the morning and see scratches on my forearm or side of my neck. Not sure about the forearm but on occasion when I pick my cat up suddenly or poorly she'll stick her legs out to my neck and I think she's just slightly slicing the skin, not enough to bleed, but enough to make a mark.

>>881893 Yasha's also dealing with a problem that doesn't really have a workable goal to strive towards. Like her grief is probably on par with Caleb's but unlike Caleb she doesn't have an entire empire she can burn to the ground to get revenge. She's also in the middle of her story arc right now, dealing with personal redemption and the stuff Matt is molding into her change between Aasimar forms, plus the stuff with the Stormlord. Ashley being unavailable for a lot of the campaign so far has definitely meant Matt's had to play careful with any big picture story stuff that would require her (as much as he plans this out, I don't think he plans the story much, but I think at the least he would try to swerve from things that involve Yasha too much before she shows back up).
With Molly, he benefitted from one, Molly being an open character compared to Yasha being very closed early on, and two, The Mighty Nein's dabbling with the criminal underground in the early parts of the campaign, which Matt seem to seed with a lot of Molly backstory stuff. Plus now that Tal has moved on to Cad, Molly as a character has been fully relinquished up to Matt's control, meaning he can be as much a cog in the broader plot as Matt wants him to be.
>>881895 I just washed my sheets, so I don't think so. It could be laz, but if he's biting me or clawing me in my sleep, I'll wake up. I'm really a light sleeper. And he's really good not to scratch me, too. He has amazing claw control.

I never actually played the VNs of seacat or higurashi It all seemed very advanced to me, so I never bothered trying
Anno
The Umineko VNs are like, one of my formative young adult experiences. Getting obsessed with Umineko was what made me my friends in the 18-22 period of my life. To this day I can definitely trace my fascination with time loops and multi-level narratives back to Umineko, in addition to it resparking a love for the mystery genre I had as a kid and kinda falling out of.
my first instinct was to ask "just how old are you even", but then I remembered the higurashi anime is a fucking decade old, and the VNs for both are even older than that
>>881952 I just feel like I'd get stuck, or miss most of the stuff in them cause they seem absurdly dense There's just SO much fucking shit with the uminekos
Is higurashi even that big outside the western audience?
Anno
Hah hah Higurashi is HUGE in Japan. Like it is miles more popular in Japan than Umineko is. If you think the western audience likes Higurashi than you only see a fraction of how much the Japanese like Higurashi.
Mou, Lazarus is such a baby. I had to bring him some food in my room. If I don't hang out with him, he just hides under the bed because of the beeping. I said I've been watching anime all day, but I've been doing it in my closet wwww Since he's too afraid to be out in the open and my closet is closed up enough that he feels safe if I sit in here with him.
Believe it or not, my closet is really comfy. It's not big enough for me to stretch out or anything, but if I lie on the floor and put my legs up against the door, it's really comfy. A little warm, though.
>>881970 I'm not a fan of the new ones at all But it'd be hard to top the original on this front

Anno
>>881969 I can't really put into words how hard I'm hoping this Higurashi anime ends up being a secret prequel to Umineko and the end of it is a very clear lead into Bernkastel fucking around with fragments.
S C
Higurashi is also one of the few anime where the anime girl running and then throwing her hand forward in the OP kinda makes sense in the context of the actual story that happens on the screen, too Which is neat
Honestly Higurashi IS the more fantastical series with Rika remembering the hundreds of years of loops she does. Umineko keeps its fantastical and mundane aspects kept quite clearly delineated between the levels of meta-narrative.
I simply don't believe you Higurashi has fantasy aspects for sure, bu >>881984 You don't need to read the uminekos to see the fucking bullshit it gets up to with 15 witches fucking around with magic
That's not fair, Beato, I'm not a witch so I don't have access to red text
Anno
>>881983 There are fantastical elements in both series, but in Umineko there's a clear separation of the story of Rokkenjima and the Ushiromiya family and the story of the witches and meta-Battler who oversee the story of Rokkenjima. This is the clear delineation of the fantastical and mundane I was referencing. Ultimately there's two plotlines in Umineko, the mystery of what happens on Rokkenijima, and the fight between Battler, Beato, and the other witches to convince one or the other that magic is/isn't real. Ultimately, the solution to what happens on Rokkenjima is found without any fantastical time looping and remembering past events. But with Higurashi, the only way Rika is able to fight to get to the truth of what happens is because she remembers past loops and is able to pick up the discrepancies and ultimate reveal of what Takano was doing. Which is far more fantastical than Umineko.
Red truth is explicitly a fact that is established without the need for evidence or anything. The witch can say anything that should be considered a fact in the story in red and according to the rules, it has to be accepted.
Talking about them kind of makes me want to replay them too. There's no way I have time for something like that right now, though.

I'm a relatively fast English reader and despite that I think some of the later Umineko Episodes were marathon reads of like eight or ten hours straight.
I was reading them back when I didn't have my own PC and was using the family PC down in the basement. I think it was Episode VII, I started reading it late at night, went until like five or six in the morning when I was just too tired to stay awake. Anno
>>882059 I'm beyond hopeful this is as ridiculous as the hints are hinting at but I'm also well prepared to be let down hah hah It is a bit weird to be getting more Higurashi at this point, especially considering we're not hitting any particularly special anniversaries. But at the same time it feels like a pretty ambitious project. I have a hard time having faith it would be successfully pulled off.

Do you know if this is 1 or 2 cour?
Anno
There's only one cour confirmed wherever I look, so I can't imagine it's getting more unless they're gonna surprise us with a split-cour announcement at the end of the season.
S C
It wouldn't be out of character for higurashi to do that atleast
AT THE END THEY'LL ANNOUNCE THE UMINEKO PART AS COUR 2
Anno
Hah hah hah I t would be reaally amazing if they dropped a new Umineko adaptation on us just like that. But i feel the logistics of getting a production committee on board to make not just a new season of Higurashi but make it a tie-in to Umineko and then make a new Umineko anime tries to properly adapt the entire VN set would a monumental task.
Yeah, this is a really nice season. I feel really good about this season! This is the first time in a year or two where I've felt like watching more than 4 or 5 shows!
Anno
I'm worried I might have to persuade
Anno
Rika to tick things back up to five shows a night because there's a lot of really fun thing to watch this season. And we're gonna get absolutely left behind at just four shows a night.
Have y'all even finished everything from last season? Did you catch up on Re:zero? It's a split cour so there's a break right now apparently.
Anno
Well Rika's not watching Re:Zero and I think I'm gonna have to go finish Railgun myself since she's not really into it.
But that aside we finished everything worth watching from last season I'd say. It was a pretty thin season! We even had enough time to finish Koi to Producer which was a thoroughly dull and mediocre show.
Guess I'm gonna be doin' the ol' region and date settings bullshit cause I can't get this to work, but I found a batch of all 8 books with english patches from 2012

you gotta do your first read with the original artwork after all right riiiiight?
I think I read Episodes !-V before the PS3 sprites were either out or rippable to patch into the game. And I read VI and VII pretty much as soon as the translation patches were available. It actually took me a long time to get around to reading VIII so I guess I could've put the updated sprites in, but, eh.
I should do a HIGURASHI THEORY video but then just do all the shit about it being a tie-in between Higurashi and Umineko and talk about the crazy fragment hopping that gets referenced by the witches in the second half of Umineko that no one who's only watched the Higurashi/Umineko anime would understand.
S C
Just post "Higurashi 2020 is a prequel to Umineko" in red text
getting that reaction on a show like that must be fucking devestating though like you work your butt off to stay in the game for the hour given, and the judge looks you in the eyes and just goes "this is a big mac..."

Send help there really is too much to watch this season. The first block alone of stuff I think we'd likely want to keep watching (or at the least, -I'd- like to keep watching) is already twenty-one episodes long. The second block is stuff we're watching but I'd bet would get dropped if we couldn't keep up, though 100-man less than the others. The third block is stuff we haven't started but I don't think could unless they were really that good because we're already watching way too much anyway
I haven't started any of those in the last block either. Aah, now that I look at the shows all listed like that, I'm currently at 17 shows. Wao! I haven't watched so much anime in such a long time! No wonder I feel so rejuvenated lately.
Also I know this is probably also in part in-the-moment hype because we've been talking about it so much. But if you do end up feeling you need to buy it, you might want to hold off for the next seasonal sale on Steam. I dunno if the Umineko games go on sale often, but if they do, saving money is nice, eh.

>>882173 Iron is a valuable resource in Minecraft even after you get diamond tools/armor since you can make some blocks with it that help with automation and making item harvesting farms, so you want a lot of it. Minecraft villagers have a mechanic where they'll spawn Iron Golem mobs into the world when they feel threatened -- e.g., when they can see a Zombie mob. When Iron Golems die, they drop iron bars, meaning if villagers keep seeing a zombie, they'll keep spawning Golems, which gives you an unlimited supply of iron. What Pekora is doing is making it so the only spawnable locationf or the Golems is a chamber that filters them towards a killing location, automating the iron dropping process. (Golems also do a LOT of damage so you don't really want to fight them yourself)
Anno
I believe her Joseph villager died so quickly because she was having a hard time moving him into that enclosure him and all the other villagers were in during a previous part of this project, and he got stuck head-inside a solid block and took a lot of damage beforehand. Peaceful mobs don't regen health unless buffed with restorative potions so he's likely been sitting around in that enclosure near-death ever since. So all it took was one or two more ticks of damage and he fucking RIP'd
Gura is supposed to host tonight's collab stream but none of the myths seem to be talking about it and it's still TBD time on their pages. I wonder when it is.
Yeah, they normally run the collab a bit late at night our-time since those are the ideal hours for people scattered across JST, EST, and PST, but normally they've come up with stuff and put down a timeslot a bit in advance. Though Gura's been a bit spotty with getting her stream timeslots up ahead of time so far hah hah. Calli is doing Doom at 21:30 EST though, so the collab would either be before that (sometime around 19:30), or after it (some time around midnight) My bet is they'll be doing it at midnight, unfortunately.
Yeah. If they'd do it a little bit before, then I'd be able to watch it live! But this is the end of their fourth week, you know? I'm excited. They might announce collabs with the JP hololives for the coming week!
I want to see Senchou and Ina do a drawing stream together!!

Really this is why it super sucks that Coco and Haachama are out of commission for a while still. Haachama's English isn't amazing but for a teenage Japanese girl it's actually astonishingly good. She just needs confidence and a bit of a wider vocabulary. Coco is a native English speaker and was also likely a big factor in why HoloEN got greenlit as early as it did to boot so it also sucks she can't be rewarded for the work she put into getting it to happen. She's also fully bilingual so she could easily be a bridge between the EN girls and the JP ones.

Yeah pretty much. The final Episode does have some game-y elements to it but they're not a lose state situation and only feature in a very small part of game.
Then chances are I won't get bored of it, at least My main worry with umineko was I thought I'd end up just getting frustrated with how convoluted a lot of it seems from fan discussions, so I'd end up just ditching it rather than finish
Anno
It's convoluted from being an incredibly dense mystery that is very good at distracting you from the mystery with flashy magic moments. And also because core to the "Truth" of the game is the riddle of the Golden Witch that people were slamming their head against for years from the first Episode's debut. (Hint: Don't think too hard about it when you first see the riddle. It both requires some future knowledge you won't have yet and also requires you to read it and comprehend it in Japanese because the solution is hidden by Japanese wordplay
>>882359 Ah, well that kinda sucks for non-jap fans I guess will I at least know it when I see it? Like does it come with a "This is the riddle of the Beato" disclaimer?

Yeah I was gonna say, unless you really don't want music, I'd strongly recommend keeping the BGM volume on while reading Umineko. Ryuukishi considers his VNs to not really be visual novels, but sound novels, because he knew he was an absolute garbage artist even back during Higurashi and so he relied on the quality of the BGM to build suspense and emotional weight to his narratives.
The Umineko BGM tracklist is honestly really, REALLY large. There's a few songs that basically are in it to only get used once in an Episode for a specific scene. And each Episode will bring new music, along with recycling some, especially some tracks that embody overarching themes or are tied to important common moments in each Episode.
A lot of japanese properties do stuff like that I feel like They have these OSTs that often blow the actual game out of the fucking water, and you remember the music more than the actual 'content' And often, there are whole, long-ass tracks that are used once or twice, but sometimes they won't even be played in full under normal gameplay circumstances
Anno
I remember back in high school after the Umineko anime had aired and I was really hungry for more, I ended up on the animesuki forums for the Umineko series. Those discussion threads were really busy back then, and some members of Witch Hunt, the group that did the unofficial-but-approved-by-Ryuukishi translations for Umineko (and eventually became the official 07th_Expansion translators) were regular contributors to the discussions. It was super cool to talk with them as a teen about possible solutions for the mystery and read their theories for Beato's riddle. They even ended up being right about the riddle!
!C0.PerkELE
isn't there selected voice acting in the cricket/seagull novels tho?
S C
There's supposedly voice acting in the remastered ones that are on steam now, but I'm using the old ones
Anno
None of the origina Higurashi/Umineko games have voice acting in them, though there's a few voiced OST tracks in later Episodes of Umineko that can be considered character songs for respective characters. Higurashi has been ported to like, every major console since its release and each time they do voice acting for them. I think even the most recent port to like PS3/4 is fully voiced. Can't remember if the PS3 Umineko port is fully voiced or partially voiced; it came out after the anime's release so they had voice actors attached for all the Episode I-IV characters. And I know Chiru's episodes that didn't get anime adaptations have seiyuu attached to some of the characters, like SAWASHIRO MIYUKI DOING HER LOLI VOICE FOR DLANOR AAAAH
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
The versions I have for 1-4 and 5-8 I've added the updated art and voice acting to as it happens
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE

I think the Steam releases have all the stuff that came with the PS3 port of the game, plus the option to switch back between the original and updated sprites, at least. I would assume they also have the background and full scene CGI too, but I can't remember if I've seen them or not in screenshots.
Anno
Oh I was mistaken the Steam release isn't a copy of the PS3 port at all. Well you're a dweeb if you start reading a Ryuukishi VN without the original art anyway.
Even the heavily mosaic'd backgrounds are honestly kind of endearing.
It's okay all the other Ushiromiya family members show up in their formal finewear. So it just means Rosa's idea of formal wear for her daughter involves a gothic lolita crown.
Oh right I forgot Maria was voiced by Horie Yui in the anime and games. I wonder if they ever do a Chiru anime adaptation ... actually Chiru

Chiru's PS3 port would've had voice lines for Featherine. Is she also voiced by Horie Yui.

Kinzo is the biggest fucking westaboo Naming all his kids European names and forcing them to name their kids European names. Though even then Battler is still an anomaly. What kind of fucking name is BATTLER
yeah battler is just a fucking word lmao it's not even a real word that anyone uses
but it's also written so the pronounciation is something you gotta tell people about all the time Just what kind of place is Japan even for that to be a thing Like "Yeah my name's written Ottawa, but it's pronounced Hieroglyph" Motherfucker just WRITE THAT THEN WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
>>882397 Well for family names, you generally don't get names that aren't a combination of Kanji that are "acceptable name Kanji" that >>882400 Hold your horses mate I'm getting there.
that the pronunciation is just assumed for. I think given names can also pull from this pool. But a common way to introduce yourself in Japan is to say something like "Hello, my name is <X><Y> (you verbally say how it's pronounced), written as <X> like this Kanji and <Y> like that Kanji" So in one fluid sentence you've given them the pronunciation and writing.
Also this was true in previous decades but recently there's also a lot of people that just don't have Kanji for given names anymore and just write the name in Hiragana. Which eliminates the problem entirely. Umineko takes place in 1986 and the Ushiromiya family was a bunch of rich twats even before Kinzo went full westaboo so they'd obviously do things in the traditional Japanese way though.
>>882399 It just seems like it adds a lot of unnecessary clutter, but I guess it's also just like,a thing they do Shouldn't really try to look at this kind of thing the way I do I think
But it's gotta make it hard when you're just given someone's name to like, write something to or locate or something Like you've just heard someone's name and you wanna find them on facebook
There's also a concept of Furigana, which is when they kinda subtitle a Kanji name with hiragana characters , you see a lot of stuff written for a younger audience even do this for less obscure Kanji because, y'know, kids are still learning. Like a lot of Shounen Jump manga have Furigana even for relatively common Kanji. But you also get a bunch of the doofy LN authors using Furigana for when they want a Kanji name for something but want a totally different pronunciation than what's normal for that Kanji. Since most Kanji have three or four ways you can pronounce them. The Raildex author does this a LOT for his series, which is why you get shit like this Where the "indekkusu" of the name is written entirely in Kanji.
But I also don't think you could use Furigana in a conventional situation to explain how to spell your name without looking like an absolute dweeb.
I think if I was japanese I'd want a name that is completely insanely written Like Yagami Light i recall his first name's kanji were I dunno Moon or something but it was pronounced Raito
Anno
>>882401 >It just seems like a lot of unnecessary clutter Yeah, welcome to written Japanese.
whole thing just makes me appreciative of our fairly straight-forward alphabet
Anno
Ah damn it thank you Internet for hiccuping me.
A bit of a culture lecture, but the development of Japanese writing, unsurprisingly, came from the nobility and prestigious elite of Japan. I mean the Kanji of course are just borrowed from China and the Kana were alphabets developed by Buddhist scribes so they could speed-write the sermons the were notating. But as a written language to encompass names and family lineage, that was a lot of the nobility of Japan, who were -obsessed- with the ambiguity and subtlties of language. That's kinda why Japanese has a lot of reliance on implied context, why it's so easy to refer to things while speaking Japanese without actually identifying the thing you're talking about. For these absolute pretentious nerds the thought that you'd refer to something and your conversation partner would be able to understand what it was because you conveyed it with subtlety and nuance was the beauty of language.
So the Japanese language by principle actually endorses things that make language more confusing and obsfucated rather than clear and concise.
So you're saying the japanese nobility was the original redditors
Anno
The ones that were all directly related to the emperor at least. They were the ones that were more than happy to remain cooped up in their imperial palace writing soppy poetry and stories about the melancholy of life while the warlords assumed direct governing control of the land.
>>882407 >So the Japanese language by principle actually endorses things that make language more confusing and obsfucated rather than clear and concise. This is genuinely fucking absurd for a country with the population of Japan lmao Like "we're one of the more populated countries on the planet, but as a bit, we made our language fucking awful. On purpose."
>>882410 Hey, you don't need a simple and uncomplicated language to grow a lot of rice and build good fishing ships.
Also I'm playing it up a bit since it was really the nobility (and later on the authors that built Japan's literary canon) that cared the most about the nuance and obsfucation of stuff through language. Its language still allows you really easily to eliminate context by implication, but that's usually because you've already established the context beforehand and unlike English or other European languages, you don't need to reiterate the context to make a fluid sentence. Kind of like, if someone asks you "Are you going to work?" and you answer "Yeah, I'm going", in Japanese they could say "Going to work?" because they're talking to you so of course it's implied that you're the object of the question, and you could reply "yeah, going" since you're responding to a question where the context (you) is already obvious. Stuff like that is the basic groundwork of the language and while you can scale it up to more and more complex concepts and conversations, you could also still make a point of reiterating your context while talking -- native Japanese people would just think you're kinda weird and maybe a bit self-absorbed.
I did! Managed to get Laz comfy too. But he's still scared to leave my room. Hopefully they'll fix the smoke alarm soon.
I went to zen this morning and answered my koan successfully. And got my next koan, but I've got that one answered already too. I'm feeling strong today!
>>882430 You might find people pronouncing it "Uadomiiru" as a softer approximation of the "vuh" syllable. Also I think more contemporary Japanese has an accented ヴ syllable which indicates the sound is more of a "vu" sound than an "u" sound

Night arrives, the couple still flees on with no rest. Their horse might die of exhaustion should they give up - never!
They shall never see the sea So Ivan turns to face the foe and Volga's mud gets mixed with blood the stream will bring it to caspian sea

Viina, terva ja hauta - booze, tar, grave already refers to a finnish alcure viina, terva ja sauna - booze, tar and sauna as in if you can't be healed with booze, tar and sauna it will bring you to the grave I won't be going to the folk healing methods here
nor pinecones nor needles can live away from their tree and now the mushrooms friends are rotting to death it is raining and it is cold and dark and the lonely mushroom is wishing for death
But if the two become canonically linked, that means someone wrote a novel about Hinamizawa that is actually a historical account
Anno
Or that the fragments we see in Higurashi are all ones that are entirely different from the one(s) that we see in Umineko. If we assume Bernkastel is actually some twisted form of the fragment-hopping Rika then yeah, both Higurashi and Umineko happened and are canonically linked, but the events of both series exist in entirely distinct fragments, most likely, if Higurashi is just a fictional story in Umineko.
THere sure is a lot of leadup before anything fucking happens in Umineko, huh?
Anno
It was the same way with the Higurashi VNs. People who only watched the anime got spoiled with how fast things accelerated. Most of the first chapter for Higurashi is just the group of friends fucking around and playing games with the occasional "Wait, are things fucked up?" ominous feeling thrown in.
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
you could argue the first book is entirely leadup
Kirara 🍄 /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
Yeah. Once things get going, it gets going big time, though.
>>882529 Umineko is a mystery, and in order to have a mystery you need to introduce all the potential suspects first. Aside from the novel being literally impossible to solve in the first Episode alone Ryuukishi sets up Episode I entirely faithful to the structure of a mystery novel.
I used to have a USB stick fucking STACKED with Umineko fanart. I'm talking like hundreds of pictures. Hell, over a hundred of fanart shipping Battler and Beato together alone. But I lost it some day. Never really got back into collecting art after that.

>>882533 Thought that was Rena's KFC statue for a second tbh, before I opened it up
>>882546 Higurashi would be even more cursed, though At least in Umineko the majority of the cast are adults >>882548 I guess, but Japanese live action adaptions of manga\VNs tend to first of all be respectful towards the original work Netflix can't be accused of the same
After I lost that USB stick I did try to collect more Umineko art but I guess I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I got like a dozen pictures in before it lost steam and I ... well I can't remember what I moved on to. i think it was about the time I was really getting into hanging around /jp/ and discovering the FlockMod room where I met the bulk of my early Internet friends.
Evil Battler does remain a sexy motherfucker though
PANrela
i thought it was Black Battler
Anno
It probably is then. I've been out of the loop so long the names are a bit fuzzy for me.

my only experience firsthand with umineko was the anime he isnt in and the fan made fighting game, dont trust my memory /my knowledge
Anno
Well Ougon Cross is acknowledged by 07th_Expansion as a non-canon part of the Umineko series. It's also a fucking GOOD fighting game. Black Battler was an ascended meme about "What if Battler was the culprit?" and pretty much everyone that drew him decided he had to be wearing a sexy purple pinstripe suit. And they all did that so hard that he became sorta-real for the fighting game. It was a thing of beauty.

>>882560 fuck the bonus boss though I suck too much
Back when I hung out with my art friends over Skype we'd some times do Ougon Cross matches for hours. Though I always sucked since I had a laptop keyboard that could only register like three pressed keys at once which made the more complex moves impossible to pull off. Plus I don't practice fighting games so I never know what a good combo actually is. I think one of my friends came up with a really good combo for playing as Lambdadelta I think. He was proud enough of it to record it and show it off to us.
>>882564 let's see at the moment we've got Mitsuboshi colors, Golden Kamuy the rest of Tenchi Muyo and now I've started Eizouken which could also fall into that category

Most cars that are like, for people, do tend to be regular-ass petrol, yeah, but mine is a diesel car despite being a very small car It's very economical Diesel is cheaper, and especially with such a small car, it lasts fucking forever I can go like, 1000KM per tank, which is like 40liters Way more than that if it's all highway
No, diesel, petrol and petrol My own's the first diesel car I've driven >>882646 Then they must'a changed their car mid-instruction for me cause that car would have broken the fuck down after they put petrol in the tank
!C0.PerkELE
all driver schools use diesel

No driver school here uses diesel
!C0.PerkELE
then your driver schools don't know how to avoid high fuel taxes
i've done a lot of gas and lot of diesel only thing i havn¨t done is electrical
but i have dine hybrids of many different kinds too
>>882654 yeah because EU is fucking STUPID biodiesel is more ecofriendly than electric cars yet they lumb it up together with regular fossil fuel Diesel
Never learned. The furthest I've gotten is taking the written driver's test which gets you the newbie license here. I can't drive unless someone with a full license is in the passenger seat with me and I'm not allowed to be on highways period.
I thought you would be able to cause your swedish is decent! Anyway it's Yellow: I have killed my mother Blue (different headline): This is how to secure your inheritance

We also have a lot of the words swedes use, we just don't actually use them that much Like we have "myrdet", but we just say "drept" most of the time, since that's "killed" rather than "murdered" And we have mormor\farmor\morfar\farfar as well, but we just use bestemor\bestefar And we don't actually ever use farbror etc. we just have onkel and tante
the umineko BGM is so good, I don't understand why you'd suspect me of turning it off >>882684 I'm still at the dinner scene, but it's been in the background for like 15 minutes now cause I'm taking a break!

One of the funny things about that Pokemon animated music video with BUMP OF CHICKEN's song was the English comments going like "Hey I recognize these guys from Tales of the Abyss/Block Blockade Battlefront! Nice to see them finally getting a break!" When really BUMP OF CHICKEN's pretty popular over in Japan
forexample my only ban on /tano/ was from me nonstop for 2 hours straight abusing a broken element and after being told to stop I used the broken element to say "no" and then immediatelly after made 10 more posts like that got me a 2 hour ban on tano

he's joking that medicine works better if you read the instructions before taking the medication like, you feel like it works better because you're doing it properly
aside from like vitamin gummies, we don't have "children's medicines" beyond variants of OTC stuff that's lower dosage so they don't fuck the kid up kids just take their medicine if their parents say it works, really >>882833 ...encounter?
