btw any idea why is it "cherrypicking" I have picked cherries and it wasn't you know picking that good or bad things you just picked them
八十八
because you're only picking the cherries you're not picking twigs or caterpillars or leafs
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
yeah but you don't pick anything but the berries/fruit in anyother harvest so it kindam akes me wonder why cherries maybe it just sounded good
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
tsch can't find any reason why it began to be used I guess it is just organic and someone said "don't cherry pick your arguments" and it sprang fro mthere like a meme
八十八
The term is based on the perceived process of harvesting fruit, such as cherries. The picker would be expected to only select the ripest and healthiest fruits. An observer who only sees the selected fruit may thus wrongly conclude that most, or even all, of the tree's fruit is in a likewise good condition. This can also give a false impression of the quality of the fruit (since it is only a sample and is not a representative sample).
literally the second paragraph on the wiki why didn't you start there
And there is no sourced back to date who first used it why it began to be used why cherries and not forexample grape or just fruitpicking it has an explanation what it means, but it doesn't hold any etymological information

cultural relevance to cherries, probably
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
one source traced it to 1953, so I'd guess it is pretty much "a meme" type of word

you know how the tiefighters in SW have that rneeeiiigh sound when they fly like a dive bomber
So as they are spaceships, they don't actually make that kind of noise, so... Are they actually broadcasting that sound on open channel to all surrounding non-friendliess to spook them? Cause if they are that is kinda awesome >>68416 no is tie
That seems kinda bad You can't even defend yourself from things regarding it by saying "I signed an NDA, I can't talk about this" You just have to avoid the issue entirely, legally
>>68437 But if you say that in the context of one of the things covered by such an NDA, you're referring to the NDA and essentially saying you signed one concerning that thing
And that'd be a violation There's no way you can acknowledge knowing anything about the issue Even if there's photographic evidence of you going to the meeting covered, you have to go "that's fake" or you're violating the contract
Kirara☆
That's right You can act like you have a basic level of information that other people would have though
I don't know if I agree that NDAs should be able to cover themselves I can't think of a lot of legitimate reasons for it, other than governmental top secret stuff, but even there you're allowed to say "If I knew anything, it'd be classified"
>>68446 I just can't think of anything where you admitting you know any more than the public would risk the safety of the state And besides, NDAs are used by corporations, not just the state And I don't think there's any justification for a corporation to be able to legally require someone to lie to not only the public, but the government unless subpoenad
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
>>68448 yeah outside of top state stuff I think basic NDA should cover up the shit
『sk』
And, again, even top state stuff I see no real reason you shouldn't be able to go "If I knew, I couldn't tell you because there'd be an NDA"
Then it's fine I guess Still think only the government should be able to gag the existence of the NDA at all though
Kirara☆
I don't believe non-government entities can I've never heard of one doing that at least Well haha yeah
Kirara☆
Clearances are like that For example if there's a project called Project Project and it's confidential clearance level, I can't mention that exists or that I have knowledge of it If it gets leaked, I can discuss the leaked details to some degree but can't admit I have inside information about it
I ended up stumbling on lot of stuff so I had to at somepoint just write a "I hear shit I am not supposed to hear, I will pretend I never heard of them" kind of thing *sign not write

they probably should have come up with a plan to govern the galaxy instead of just being like, "yeah we won so everything is fine now there's no rush"

You see people didn't give a shit that palpatine commited essentially religious genocide they at that point hated the jedi for the clone was, which in public side was the jedi leading the republic fighting against a former jedi leading the separatists
Like think if the US civil war was fought between US jew generals, and the guy who founded the Confederation was a jew too
you think there'd be quite much anti-semitism post war especially if Lincoln kept constant "the jews started this war and it is their war we are going through"

also the empire kick started the economy with the separatist war loot they gathered afterall, the separatists were formed of the bankers, big corporations and all they had all the industrial power in the galaxy and the emperor nationalised all of that also he looted the banks

He's not called a racist, just a transphobe though If anything, the right word for him is paranoid

Now what do vampires have... >ability to turn into mist >ability to turn into bat >ability to turn into wolf >mind control (minor) >weather control >super strenght >super speed >immortality yeah their list of powers is still quite good
Their powers are impressive, but the circumstances they can use any of it in are so limited Literally all it takes not to be a victim is to not let people into your house after sundown That's IT YOU'RE GOOD AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT A MORON IN GENERAL
You don't even need to know vampires EXIST to never be a victim
>>68738 They'd have to show up before I leave! I'm not gonna hang out if it's boring.
『sk』
like I won't ever be a vampire victim even if they exist Cause I don't invite strangers into my house after it's dark That's a bad mov e Don't do that It's dumb You'll get robbed
Nah I think they have to explicitly be invited like, then and there
I don't think an open invitation to some later time counts I think at least the person who answers the door has to then let them in
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
No, it is once they get access to enter, basically are invited they are free to enter forever it has never been really specified what kind of invititation, but say take Angel as a series, kinda loosely based "come over" worked too or "you can enter"
If there's no timelimit, surely there's gotta be some magical sort of power of intent There's no way you can jokingly say "hahah, yeah you should come over sometime" and that counts
>>68747 Could you? You definitely do your job as one of the carriers, but I don't know if you can really operate in the onee-san power realm that a lot of my duties exist. I don't think you could stop an onee-san character.
>>68748 But then we have another question Are the criteria of your invitation in play? Like sure you might say "you should come over sometime", but you don't intend like, midnight next thursday, especially if you're sick or something that day But does the magic account for this?
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
confirmed normal aaa batteries work on my headphones
Buffy had very lax invitation rules. In one episode, a party flier advertising a part y in a house was sufficient to let the vampires enter.
>>68752 I don't think you could stop an onee-san, especially with attributes similar to mine. You can't be an onee-san, all you'd be able to do is be mean. In that sort of situation I just play the victim and make the other person look like a bad guy.
the best part of Buffy was the Gentlemen anyway they taught me to make plans to sell out my friends just in case demons from another world invaded I was a lively kid with an overactive survival instinct
>>68754 I could turn everyone against them, though. Most of /moe/ is anti-new people these days. It'd be easy to turn everyone against the new person for me.

don't quote me on this but i'm pretty sure there's not enough non-sun matter in our solar system to allow another star to develop some people call jupiter a failed star, but it actually was pretty far away from ever becoming a star. Close in the cosmic scale, but that's still several magnitudes of power away.

It would be a problem if you died, of course. I don't know if I can carry everything on my own anymore.
>>68894 In terms of mass, Jupiter is quite far away from being a star. There's evidence that Jupiter is a failed star in the sense that Jupiter began the process of becoming a star, but didn't quite make it. Mostly due to Sol becoming a star before Jupiter could. Jupiter is quite far along in the process though, if not for Sol it would have made it. The evidence for this is the fact that Jupiter emits more heat than it absorbs from the sun - it's the only planet in the solar system that exhibits this behavior. The only types of planets we know that exhibit this sort of thing are gas giants that are on their way to becoming a star. If Sol had not been around to absorb all the mass that it did, Jupiter likely would have become the star in the system.
TN !PcAPtAiNJo

>>68942 I think you're more interesting to interact with now than before. You were a little bland at the start and offput a lot of discussion because you treated any discussion with opposing views as fighting about something it made it difficult to really even talk about something that made it much less interesting

>Bald eagle found dead with talons cut off in Brooking, Oregon to what end
I didn't though I said I was very sad. But I expected it nonetheless.
In the current age of dubs I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't like P5's dub. They're all pretty subpar lately. Like By MY standards
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
Hmm now I see why the ligthsaber fights in the original trilogy sometimes feel better eventhough the prequel ones are way flashier and faster
in the prequels the blows sometimes are choreographed so they wouldnät hit the enemy even if the othr didn't block or dodge here, they are either shot so or choreographed, that it always looks like "if not blocked, it would slice you dead" and also less is more the intensity of the duels makes them more impressive compared to the flashy fights not that I dislike the prequel duels, just a thought about the differences
Tales of Vesperia has a good dub Tales of Graces has a p good dub Xillia's got bad sound mixing going on, Xillia 2 has a pretty good dub,
Zesty and Berseria? Not so much
Kirara☆ !Sh0sAiDORU
i love that guy's sigh in the video

Like it has to be the voice director responsible for >>68954 someone at ATLUS or something because they did the same kind of thing in P4's dub I'm pretty sure
But then there are other dubs that would pronounce that right
I gave a bunch of money to this robot who said he makes cool shit and he keeps giving me kind of eh stuff? What a guy I'm going to keep funding his lifestyle
Well, I remember the story where we never quite did figure out where you and ToN and pan posted before you came here. Though if I remember properly there may have been something about pan not actually posting there.
>>69010 I was just pretending to be polite. I'm also pretty restrained until I'm comfortable with people. I've also had a lot of character development!
>>69013 Good thing I don't do that anymore! I was a very different person back then too.
Anno
I was also pretty polite when I first came to /moe/ Actually I was part of a shitposting flood from the ghost board and then I saw how nice board this board was Them I was polite Now Im in touch with my inner autist
>>69016 I said you couldn't trust robots because they couldnt love, and you got obsessed with the idea that I was a robot. Ever since, you've made it your goal to make sure everyone calls me one.
>>69018 That doesn't explain why everyone in real life calls you a robot. I have no power there. The truth is that the mastermind behind the robot meme is none other than you!
>>69039 Why does it have to be an intentional thing? I don't do anything to encourage it in real life. It started in real life when I misspoke and said I needed batteries instead of saying I needed bandaids.
>>69043 I said that you couldn't trust robots a lot and that they should be destroyed, and you thought I was too gung-ho about it, and that meant that I was robot.

>>69056 Maybe I'll do that. >>69057 I think you're seeing what's really going on. I don't even know if you really think I did it on purpose or if you're just bullying.
I got paid $5 helping some guy locate his friend. My friend later soft confirmed that the friend he was looking for was most likely a drug dealer and the dude's sex partner.
Then we went to Taco Bell, and I waited over 20 mins for $5 breadsticks.
i bought a cheaper one for $20 thanks amazon prime for one click purchasing if i like it enough then i can buy a higher quality one later i'm probably going to suck at it and give up
Then I spent $8 on a picture of a lion drawn in gel pen. It looks nice and the guy was just knocking out drawings all over the place. Which is pretty standard NYC art seller. But it was a fuckin lion. And I wanted it.
there we go purchased a different one for five dollars more and it'll arrive sunday THIS sunday wooo >>69085 mornin nags are you ready for the weakened
impulse buying feels good, doesn't it? i've just done four or five 12-15 hour work days in a row (i dont remember monday so i'm not sure) and for all that work a $20 instrument seems like a fun thing to have i mean, some days i spend more than that on lunch, dinner, and a few alcoholic beverages without even thinking about it but for some reason whenever it's something not being consumed, i'm much more paranoid about spending which doesnt make too much sense because it's something i'll have forever instead of just for one meal but that makes it exciting too
>>69112 It's lasagnacat 9 years ago it was the highest quality content on youtube, then disappeared into the abyss and everyone presumed it dead until it popped back into motion literally one month ago with some serious dedication, dropping over a dozen videos in a single day

>>69118 It's great. I remember when I watched the first episodes I was in one of those blank periods where i didn't remember whole months, part of 2014 but i do remember watching black mirror it's so surreal have fun!
>>69120 how are you watching that with her and browsing moe at the same time is she also browsing moe with you? or are you playing it on netflix through console?
>>69144 it's kind of an all-encompassing term what's in the cupboards, fridge, et cetera what have you got lying about i'll help you come up with a meal
lemme just check my pantry here forty boxes of wheat crackers... sturgeon caviar... a leek... sandwich mustard... don perignon... five cans of SPAM... a live rabbit...
>>69149 you gotta keep eggs onhand, always i suggest you go shopping soon and buy eggs and a bunch of frozen mixed vegetables, some grated parmesan, black pepper these four things alone can make you a delicious omelet or stir fry, depending on the egg-to-veggie ration, and frozen veggies are super cheap, i'm sure even in britannia
Kannagi
I pretty much have an empty kitchen towards the end of the week.
>>69152 Yeah eggs are a pretty good food for cheap and quick meals. I don't often buy eggs to be honest. >>69156 They are frozen and will take time to defrost. like In solid lumps in the freezer.
I will just wait for the shop to open in 1 hour and 20 minutes
八十八
>>69155 no way i cook frozen haricots and mixed veggies all the time just toss some butter or oil in the skillet, set it on medium low, and let it sit if you've got a cover for the skillet, toss that on top and it'll help circulate the heat and retain it if they're small veggies, and not like broccoli or cauliflower or carrots sticks, they'll thaw and cook in an even proportion and not get all messed up by going straight from freezer to skillet
>>69158 I prefer to cook green beans when they have defrosted a bit since It feels a bit weaker when they are covered in water. I had a couple of weeks of eating nothing but green beans.
Eh, I will just wait and get unhealthy food from the convenience store >>69163 Never heard of that!
Maria
there's a really fancy way of cooking beans where you boil them, then after that you quickly stick them in freezing water and it makes them super crisp it's great
yeah, boiling vegetables is a surefire way to remove most nutrients from them especially with stuff like spinach, you end up with gout eat spinach raw, preferably >>69167 no it's not steaming them is acceptable boiling them really isn't
I thought boiling veggies was fine? I boil my potatoes and broccoli
Kirara☆ !Sh0sAiDORU

>>69167 potatoes aren't vegetables broccoli should be steamed steaming is a lot more energy-efficient too, for whatever that's worth same with eggs -- if you're going to hard cook eggs, steam them instead of boil. it's more effective in about every way possible (thanks alton brown for teaching me) >>69170 potatoes are tubers a steamer should cost like three or four bucks and they're super useful your broccoli will steam a lot faster than it will boil tastes better, better texture, more nutrients, less energy/gas wasted, and easier to perform IMO
Hm, maybe I should get a steamer. I either boil, fry or cook.
月
Steaming is fun Boiling is a chore
Maria
boiling is easy you just set it to boil and come back later
Kannagi
I have never found boiling a chore to be honest. I just stick a bunch of things in the pot and boil them. They taste nice. I have never had anything steamed though so it be interesting to try.
