you use green maeng da right kirara? ive got some and it tastes nauseatingly bad does that strain normally taste exceptionally bad? i feel like im gonna throw up every time i take it and it -really- hurts my gut i wonder if it's bad
I primarily use green borneo. I have some green maeng da, but I haven't tasted it before, I always just parachute it. If it's hurting your gut, it's probably bad, though.
i figured i just took too much last time and on an empty stomach this time i just took a little bit it tasted sour but i'll see whether or not it upsets my tummy again
if you haven't looked at it by the way, here's a really interesting paper about the math psych stuff i was mentioning to you a few weeks ago https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022249617300962 you dont have to pore through all of it or anything of course or even look at it at all
i thought you'd maybe get a sense of what it's about though a model of the process of encoding environmental states into perception and forming action from the perceived states
all the stuff ive been focused on that i said i didn't know how to communicate, that math was too rigid and language too superfluous, this sets up a lot of the foundation i need to communicate stuff so im hoping i can use it as the foundations for my work
i dunno, even as early as page 3, they're talking about a lot of concepts and terminology i don't know at all this is probably something that would take me a few days to read because i'd have to do a lot of self learning to even start to understand what they're talking about
even if they're talking about normally accessible things, they're translating it into mathematical terms, and i don't have the existing framework to navigate that
well certainly don't spend that amount of time reading it it's helpful enough to know i'd still need to dilute it a bit for communicating it
i worry about spending a lot of time on something and then having it be not necessarily too complex, but just too dense for people to want to look at it or care about what it means especially if im wanting to use it for career momentum
i think it's just the language that's being used that makes it hard for me academic language in general is needlessly advanced when it could be simplified significantly, so when i'm looking at stuff like this, which is not // which not only has the layer of academic language, but also the layer of mathematical language, and the intersection of both of those, it becomes overwhelming it's just not accessible
science in generally is super inaccessible though academia loves gatekeeping after all
月
i agree im having a lot of trouble communicating stuff at a base level though especially with stuff like this, it needs to be really rigid and precise otherwise it can be misconstrued in its nature a bit im sure it's doable but it's where im having the biggest trouble
i think it's possible to be clear and precise at a base level but the current culture of academic writing refuses to allow it it might mean you have to write more but i think it's possible in general at least idk maybe maths is different, i have no experience with it i guess i shouldn't say i think it's possible if i don't have any reason to think it is
on top of what you said, academia is also flooded with stuff nobody really cares what's outside of their specialized field and everybody floods the atmosphere with all this stuff so not only do you have to use inaccessible language to be taken very seriously, the only people who can access it dont care enough about it to read it
it's also inaccessible to other academics by the way they just don't have anything better to do with their time so they dont mind spending a lot of time learning the foundation terminology i don't even have people i can talk to about my maths im too isolated and socially crippled
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
academia really is a dumpster fire there have been so many great critiques of science and the culture surrounding it but academics are all essentially children who hate to be challenged and refuse to acknowledge dissent idk how to fix it it's probably hard to build a community of non-academia academics
月
science is pretty overrated but if i talk bad on science i'll get labeled a heathen by its practitioners who don't even understand what science is we don't even care about replication of results anymore, especially in environmental sciences we're politically locked into a set of biases around environmental science that discourages replication studies it's such a broken system that's not science's fault itself but it lends itself to this kind of realization because it has no forward reach and it's inefficient as a society to not have forward reach
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
science has just become posturing it's completely divorced from the world

the other day i referred to the weather here as the dying breaths of winter and my colleague started freaking out about how i said "dying breasts of winter" it was really annoying idk why i bother sometimes
ah yes, winter's breasts are finally dying the sweater puppies are disappearing
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
i dont necessarily think dying breaths to dying breasts is unfunny but some people just can't into jokes like here on moe id say that and someone else could just post "dying breasts of winter" and nothing else and it would be funny some people get like super excited over a joke and they kill it
imo jokes are kind of modular we pass them around and leave room for others to add or subtract or manipulate their form and they evolve collaboratively it's a really fun social process
but if you're just like DYING BREASTS? HAHA IS THAT WHAT YOU SAID? you're cutting it off the opportunity to collaborate on the joke you're effectively killing it
Anno
The words to jokes are mostly irrelevant. The important detail is the deliverance.
another way people kill jokes is by regressing them the joke evolves from something and is passed on but the person who changes it next reduces it to what it just evolved from it loses all momentum and there's no way to keep it moving earnestly
for example here i make a joke, which is taking an overly philosophical viewpoint of a garfield comic which results in what's essentially an absurd statement the joke has moved away from the literal interpretation of the comic. in fact, the crux of the joke is that the comic is not being interpreted literally
the next person immediately returns it to the literal interpretation without any other modification
it loses momentum and there's no way to keep it going it just falls dead
Winter. Animals store up a lot of fat for the winter, and winter essentially gives birth to spring. So I imagine it to be somewhat motherly, and motherhood is typically associated with breasts.
What kind of personalities they would have? I'd imagine spring being overly clingy and "has no sense of personal space" to reflect allergies and pollen
and spends most time and effort on appearances and clothing, mimicking how autumn can be hot as summer or cold as winter, requiring more varying clothing than other seasons

wouldn't have foot pain if you didn't have foots
Anno
Guess that's extra motivation to switch to the metric system.
I found a place that has it in stock, but it's an hour and a half drive away from me, and the store closes at 7pm every day except Sunday, when it's not open. I wouldn't be able to get there until Friday. This is stupid. I need to keep exercising.
I have flexible flatfoot syndomr.e syndrome I have a pretty bad overpronation because of it. It's always contributed to some of my problems, like knee pain and stuff, and occasionally, the bottom of my foot becomes irritated and it becomes painful to walk, but that usually goes away after a day of rest.
I've gone three days without any exercise, resting quite a bit, but my foot muscles still hurt. That means it's going to start getting worse from now on, so I need to get better shoes to lessen the impact.
In the summer, when Fish disappeared, I got depressed and stopped exercising regularly. I'm trying to get back into it now because there are too many benefits to exercising and if I let myself stop while I'm youngish, it'll be harder when I'm older and I need to exercise more to stay fit. But I've been pushing myself too hard the last few weeks. I've been doing 6 miles a day three days in a row. Something like that wasn't a problem when I was younger, but I guess my condition has progressed to the point that I need to take precautions.
Around age 25, your cells stop replenishing themselves faster than your cells die. Most people probably don't notice the changes because they don't push themselves particularly hard, but I think I'm noticing the change. But I'll beat it.
I was thinking maybe I could go to that store on Tuesday if I took off work in the morning, but I have a bunch of client intakes. Maybe I can skip my dissertation meeting on Thursday and go then, but that's still almost a week.
I don't understand why nobody has this shoe in stock. It's a popular shoe. I bet it's not in stock because it's not a shoe people without foot deformities would buy.
oh wait it's $60 more at the place in orlando than it is everywhere else i can't even afford that i can't spend $120 on shoes maybe i can try it on there and make sure it's comfortable and then buy it online

I'm sure Rika has spent that much on shoes so surely you can too.
Even looking at other shoes, I can't find them nearby. There's no way to search local store merchandise. Why can't I just look to see if support shoes are available.
There is a swedish storeline called Stadium, that has a "running track going circulary through each store, both for just decorative purposes as they are a sports store, but also so you can run along it to test shoes

custom insoles are really nice they cost a good bit compared to just getting new shoes but they go a long way towards making my hiking timbs last especially with daily use I've worked in them for like three years and climbed a few mountains and hiked at least a few hundred miles and they still are holding up >>651943 yeah I don't know if they can help any for overpronation, since that's not a problem I've gotta think about maybe if you get specialty insoles but i can only imagine the price hike there

I wouldn't really like a surgery either many of my friends have gotten eye lazors to get rid of glasses, but I don't really see the point maybe if it was say 2k for operation and no glasses for 10-20 years, or buying new 200-300€ glasses every odd year then it would make sense but my shit are like 15€ per pop

id like to be able to see without my glasses but i look damn good with glasses and the idea of smelling my eyes burning beneath a laser is something i find unpleasant anyway
I don't really like wearing glasses in public, though I don't mind ie sitting at class or a cafe etc while reading, but forexample commuting or being at a store

i've recently noticed a lot of trans people on twitter raising money so they can get hormone replacement or surgery or whatever and that's totally fine if they wanna do that but one thing they almost always say is that their life depends on it that they will literally die if they cannot have their breasts removed or whatever like this >>>/@BonhommeRouler/1103911830148145153 "my life is literally depending on"

but saying "if you don't help me fund this body modification, i'm going to kill myself" feels manipulative to me even if they're serious about it i think it makes for a kind of toxic atmosphere
in 40k, there is one comissar, who orcs believed had an "evil eye he can kill people with" so he plugged out his eye and had a laser cannon installed there going "if they believe I can kill with a look, so I shall"

idk, i've never seen people that weren't trans saying they'd kill themselves if they couldn't get a surgery most surgery fundraisers are for legitimate "i will die if i don't get this surgery" issues
I've seen few, but yeah most don't go that far as their issues usually aren't something people realistically kill themselves over. More oft you see other kinds of mental manipulation like the "do this and maybe something good will happen to you~ (cleavage is shown)"
it's a pretty sad situation i can understand why they do it. they feel like they have literally no place in the world and are rejected at a fundamental level. they're pushed into poverty and joblessness. they get no respect.
but at the same time i can't help but think suicide is going too far i think people have the right to kill themselves if they want to, but doing it as a response to an unfavorable situation instead of reasoning it out is not the way to go about it, i don't think

i made a thread on twitter earlier this week saying that if the climate change projections are accurate and we only have 12 or so years to stop the progression of climate change before it becomes unstoppable, we should stop trying to stop climate change and start preparing to minimize the deaths that will occur from ecological collapse because we're not going to stop its progression within 12 years and i said that people were just eluding themselves by believing in a messiah politician who will stop climate change or by believing in a revolution where the people rise up and stop it
>>652079 we are at a point, even if you stop everything, it will still happen and have been at that point for more than my lifetime the question just has been if you ask me, is it in 50 years or 500 years
Whatever was going to happen would have happened, we just came along and hit "fast-forward" and now are panicking about it. and prolly magnified it by a good value
someone asked me specifically what i thought we should do and i said we need to build networks to distribute supplies, build housing, secure farmland and knowledge of how to best use it, get trained in first aid and learn to produce medical essentials like epi pens, and gathering technical training documents and then i got accused of saying there's no future and we should all give up and die
I do hate practically all climate-politics cause most of it is just >raise taxes >use raised taxes to fund existing or other projects and don't actually do anything good for the climate
Then agin, it isn't going to be some doomsday scenario that just kills everyone in 10 years it will just be extreme climate zones getting more extreme untill they become 100% unhospitable and then livable areas turn into inhospitable
and then you have just the nordic countries remaining and extreme south countries realistically speaking canada, scandi, some europe, anda ll of russia in terms of good farm land
livable areas will start shrinking and there will be climate disasters like mega hurricanes and stuff like that
we have time to prepare but climate disasters like hurricanes are going to be the first things that start hitting and we should be preparing to do disaster relief and building shelters for that hurricanes are already becoming more powerful than we previously believed was theoretically possible
we need to work on those networks right now because otherwise we won't have an opportunity to perfect them until people are already dead
>>652088 Yeah, and also startign to fund infrastructure, when say 50% of africa has to travel either north or south ofc that is years into the future, but when it actually starts it is too late to react
!C0.PerkELE
but say for USA, the near future issues is what you listed flood, storm, hurrican etc stuffb ecoming more and more destructive and common so relief supplies and capcacity for them is something that should be top priority
yeah infrastructure is super important when a hurricane comes here, there are about 4 days prior to it hitting when you can't use the roads because there are only two roads you can use to go north in florida and everyone runs out of gas and gets trapped on the freeway and then people die in the hurricane because they're trapped in their car
>>652091 i think it's a completely reasonable position in fact it's probably the only reasonable position
in my mother's place, it isn't a bomb shelter, just "shelter" since it couldn't actually take in a hit from any actual explosion but I bet it would survive a storm easily, unless some truck landed on it etc
We still afterall have those laws in place that require every building or housing community to have a shelter, that can house the entire population, atleast projected population, of said community within it
This communes is in the neighbouring building, should actually go check it out someday
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
bomb/natural disaster shelter, that is
everyone else gets thrown into school buildings when there's a hurricane
more-or-less they are able to withstand up to category 4 hurricanes generally, but the problem is that if anything goes wrong, it'll probably fail if something is thrown and damages the roof, wind can get a hold of it and start ripping the roof off of the building after which point it'll just lose more and more roof until eventually it rips the roof off of the area the people are being sheltered in after which they're completely exposed it hasn't happened before that i know of but it's a possibility
the more important issue is that those shelters aren't able to accomodate people and become disease factories
The appartment complex shelters are in away most secure, since they are built so, that they can theoretically survive the building collapsing while ofc, they can't survive a direct hit, but with them usually beingo n lowest floor or underground, that wouldn't happen, unless someone actually drops a bunker buster there The downside is, that if the building does collapse, the shelter becomes essentially a tomb sure you can survive in there, but food and water will run out eventually
it's "too expensive" to put the power lines below ground so they leave them above ground and they get taken out constantly nobody wants to fix that problem because it means taxing people and floridians would rather die in a hurricane than pay an extra dollar every year
hmm I suddenly started to question the Half lfie 2 crossbow how does fucking superheating the projectile actually help at all? Sure it would be a LOT more paifnul against soft targets, but it is ment to be an armour piercing weapon if the projectile is ehated red hot, it is SOFT sure it will be hot when it hits the target, but it won't penetrate and will just bend, hitting the target with a lot of blunt impact and a scorch mark on clothing/armour but at that point a bullet would do the same thing, as it launches albeit a much smaller projectile but onewith a LOT more well speed behind it so the total kinetic energy is around the same
>>652106 Despite it being an investment of say 10 million now, 5 saved yearly well 100 million now 5-10 saved yearly, from not having to reconstruct shit after every hurricane/storm
>>652058 i know what you mean to an extent i don't view myself as very gendered and it doesn't even register quickly even when people refer to me as another gender i try to be supportive but this stuff really doesn't mean anything to me personally and i don't really "get it" i feel like myself and that's all i really know
>>652109 and if theyw ant proof, just ask us finns, who get lot of powerlines cut due to snow and snow packed trees falling on powerlines or sheer snow cutting the lines
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
>>652109 in america, you can't convince people with numbers or promises you can tell them how great it will be but it won't matter unless they can see the benefit tomorrow
Is funny how america is supposed to be the "capitalist nation", but it actually hates making solid investments, that are the essence of capitalism
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
it doesn't make investments as a country because it's so capitalist corporations don't want improvements to infrastructure and stuff, it won't make them more money
Even the american model of corporate strategy is similiarly shitty it is just a cronyistic model where the overall corporate health doesn't matter, as long as the next Quarter produces satisfactory results to the board and ivnestors and sure, that is in essence what capitalism is, but a true capitalist would want to ivnest in something that isn't going to produe profit just tomorrow, but also 10 years from now tomorrow

do kiddos today still play garrys mod it's all about roblox these days isnt it
Anno
I dunno about the kids but Garry's Mod is still popular amongst older gamers.
月
oh yeah for sure kids on garry's mod was always part of the experience though 12 year olds screaming at you over the comms and litterly crying for getting band from the servers i just wondered if new young kids were doing that somewhere else now
Anno
Probably yeah. I don't really do a lot of multiplayer experience games so I wouldn't know where they've gone now.

The headband on my headphones has almost entirely fallen apart and I don't really know what my recourse is. I don't really want to tape it together because having that much tape around my hair just feels like a bad idea. At the moment I'm just hoping I can get something decent on my tax return later this spring and maybe get a new pair.
Anno
my current pair I put tissue in because the dog chewed all of the padding in one side there was another pair I tried to tape together but it wasn't really effective maybe I didn't use enough duct tape either way I did not find that it affecting me all that much, it just wasn't put together well enough also the padding thing makes my head hurt after a while
yeah $170 but they're amazingly comfortable they change the way i walk by fixing my overpronation i never knew walking could be so comfortable i always thought the strain on my ankles and knees was what everyone felt
>>652185 wow that sounds nice maybe someday i can save enough for a good pair of something myself i always had a strained relationship with shoes i think i only had one pair that felt good to walk in that would probably help me out some
The bottom of my bed is falling out. Currently it's being held up by only about a third of the supporting ... nails? I think? The rest is kind of a noticable decline and I'm worried how many more times I can lay down on it before it just gives way entirely.
I don't really have the time or interest in describing or taking pictures of the situation but trust my assurances that is not a feasible solution to the problem.
Well it had a good run. This is half of the bunk bed we got when my brother and I needed one for the room we shared as kids. It's endured two young boys, being dismantled and separated into two separate beds, reconstructed into a bunkbed, dismantled again into a single bed. And also moving between one house to another. Probably something like twenty or twenty-two years old.
Oh I found a two-person admission and refreshments coupon for a movie theatre that I got for last Christmas. I wonder if they let you use it for a single person. Could go see Captain Marvel or something else in theatres.
I'd go watch alita or if it is untill end of april, save it for Avengers
Anno
It ... doesn't seem to have an expiry date? It's got a stamp for month it's printed on but I can't find anything indicating how long it's good for. But I expect my folks might want to go out and see Endgame as a family like we did for Infinity War so I'm probably good for that movie already.
One of the nicer things about all this damn snow melting is the barbeque is finally out from the pile of snow it was under. Finally I can barbeque things again.

Someone made a really stupid mistake at D&D and now a bunch of people are going to die. Luckily I'm not playing my own character.
FormerRei@mobile
This character consistently gets into danger, puts other people in danger, and in general causes problems in seeking revenge (that she is too weak to succeed in) especially at inopportune times.
FormerRei@mobile
Like being one word away from my character having to kll her and leave the campaign.
a loop of titania eats previous niedelhogger and eventually becomes one, eats all, transports into next reality and starts eating all, is beaten and eaten by titania and in our game that loop got broken first time due to devil
From people that have actually played the game, you don't need to buy any orbs to fulfil the experience if you don't want to. If they want to profit off people's laziness, let them.
Kirara, the Baseball Mom
yeah, i mean, who cares honestly there's no point in complaining about it
what is a sadie hawkins dance I remember being a new kid at school you can feel pretty left out because a lot of people already have well established relationships >>652324 that's kind of odd
it's where the girls are responsible for asking the guy out since guys are usually big cowards and afraid to ask anyone out on regular dances then the girls get the chance to lead the way
>>652323 well it's supposed to be odd it's in contrast to ever other dance it's just a one-off reversal of traditional norms

Okay I think I've got a temporary fix to my falling-apart bed problem. If I sleep hugged up right against the wall in

i was critiquing modern personality type theory on twitter and someone got worried i was talking about jungian archetypes lol how are those modern in any sense
i always get unnecessarily triggered by myers briggs charts where they have like anime characters or career types represented by each group i know they're for fun and not too serious but ive got autismos or adventurer types in an rpg
well unfortunately personality types are often taken seriously and they're incredibly reductionist they used in work settings all the time

how come it's okay to make 'jokes" on television and in movies about how awesome cocaine is and how successful people get to enjoy it shouldn't we avoid promoting very addictive hard drugs even if it's just a (quite overused) bit in comedy
i can't think of many instances where it was pertinent outside of gangster movies like Scarface
月
we shouldn't responsibly be idolizing these heroes that go bust up a gang of druglords by himself either some young fella will think he's doing the right and just thing and get himself kilt
the only thing I can think of is that it's easier to make jokes about stimulants and hallucinogenics because they're very out there drugs nobody would want make jokes about opoids because it's not as easy unless you want the dark humour angle

Slept in and I'll probably miss the first hour of today's class hah hah At least I'll also miss the worst of the rush hour transit.
Anno
The lecture today opened on a talk on Dadaism and the professor used that Duchamp piece of the urinal that the Philadelphia museum of art had in their brochure as an example of the concept, hah hah
I talked with the professor about that Duchamp piece after class and got a really neat story about it. Apparently the original piece Duchamp's "Fountain", no one actually seems to know where it is - it's gone missing, and any rendition of it that people see are actually replications. But even those replicas have a tendency to disappear, making the culture around the piece a kind of mystery? My professor thinks the whole thing is the perfect Dadaist joke though.
Anyway I figured the rest of y'all that were trying to find it in that last half hour at the museum of art might find that neat.
m-maybe i could be your burnt toast just for tonight, samurai-chan...

There's a stretch of road I can walk up after class instead of hopping straight on the subway that smells absolutely delicious around lunchtime. Whole lot of Asian and Middle-Eastern restaurants, so the air takes on all these smells of frying and grilling meats and savoury sauces cooking.
