i live in a world where i'd be more scared of other humans than aliums or ghosts >>230923 but who's going to protect the aliens from your girlfriend? good night
Real aliens are definitely more scary. Real aliens would destroy your planet with relativistic weapons before you knew what were before you knew what was going on out of self-preservation.
I don't really believe in the stuff too much, but sometimes I think about demons and get spooked too like my brain hallucinates things in sleep paralysis sometimes and it's really scary when there's demons jumping out of your drapery because your brain wants to piece together the sporadic design pattern and sees weird things that's really scary stuff
FormerRei@mobile
>>230932 Real aliens probably exist But we'll probably never encounter them or find traces of them and vice versa
Maria
>>230932 real aliens would just send a giant chunk of rock at super high speed and there'd be nothing we could do
>>230939 That's what a relativistic weapon is. If you accelerate a moderately sized object at a fraction of the speed of light, you can blow someone's planet up before they're literally able to see it coming.

>>230951 It's kinda scary. In a universe where relativistic weapons are possible and easy to make, the only real way to treat your neighbor is to blow him to smithereens before he can think about doing it to you.
>>230952 No, you literally cannot detect a relativistic weapon before it hits you.
FormerRei@mobile
>>230957 If it's slower than light it can be detected Also disregarding concepts such as " sufficiently advanced technology" (indistinguishable from magic) and sort of launch device *any Would likely be detected before launch Primarily from the massive amount of em noise created by such a large electronic machine

>>230973 Yes, why are you greentexting at me? The only context in which I am aware that radio waves move faster than the speed of lgiht is when a pulsar is involved. If the aliens are throwing pulsars at you, you are already in trouble.
FormerRei@mobile
>>230975 Radiowaves travel at exactly the speed of light because they are light Infrared radiation travels at exactly the speed of light because it is light
>>230976 That's right, radio waves and heat waves don't travel any faster than light. I gave you an easy one, 75% the speed of light and you will still not have much time to react to it.
A proper relativistic weapon travels at 99% the speed of light, and there's no way to react to that.
>>230978 There's no way to react, but its not neccesarily impossible to detect. Also you are contradicting yourself a bit there Anyways here's a map of the em spectrum
>>230979 So you agree with me, that you'd have no time to react to a relativistic weapon and you'd die to it and your planet would explode. I'm glad that you agree with me, and I accept your apology.
relativistic weaponry isn't very accurate! assuming it's space-launched if yer' talkin some sci fi gadgetry then that's gonna require some next level stuff to get to relativistic speeds without taking great amounts of distance and time to accelerate it a grabbity gun usin the moon as a slingshot should have enough kinetic force for what you want and would still be pretty discreet
FormerRei@mobile
>>230984 I never said you woukdnt die to it, I said it wouldnt neccesarily be undetectable Also full disclosure I have about half a physics degree so I know a hell of a lot more about making things move and how to detect things that move than you do I never said "it woukdn't destroy earth" I only said "it wouldn't neccesarily be undetectable"
>>230993 It's all waves, but it's obvious we were talking about visible light.
>>230991 Everything I said is basically right! He's just fighting over the incredibly semantic point that you could possible possibly if you were looking for it realize that you were going to die like five seconds before you died
>>230985 Yeah, it would be hard to hit stuff with it. You could probably blow up someone's planet with it though.
FormerRei@mobile
>>230994 Not in the case of this conversation Anyways as a general rule in discussions about physics "light" refers to the entire EM spectrum not just visible light Also it doesnt really matter whether or not the lught is "visible" ##because no matter what wavelength it still has the same velocity in a vacuum
>>230994 the degree of calculation you'd need gets exponentially larger the closer you want it to relativistic speeds it's probably possible but i don't think anyone that advance to have that much computational power wouldn't waste it on something so trivial unless there's some mega-rich alien overlord that's using all his information processing allocation credits to blow up planets just to show off how much data currency he has speaking of... rip guam
FormerRei@mobile
>>230994 One of your core arguments was that "it would be impossible to detect" I don't really think its an incredibly semantic point to refute it
>>231001 Guam will be okay. Kim is just shaking his fists again.
>>231002 The argument that you could detect it moments before your demise is kind of an asanine one. I'm willing to concede that point.
FormerRei@mobile
>>231003 It's not asinine because you seem to have a very distorted sense of scale in regards to how fast things move and how big the solar system is. For an actual truly impossible to detect (barring things like wormholes) instant death you need something traveling at exactly the speed of light that can kill everything on earth such as a gamma ray burst.
The speed of light in a vacuum is the universal speed limit, information can't travel faster than light. But because it can travel at the speed of light you can in theory detect any large mass traveling towards earth a head of time

which is like several years information interacts at the speed of causality, c, yes, but that's kind of a narrow view point
FormerRei@mobile
>>231037 It's a moot point anyways because we have no reason to believe there are aliens in the solar system, let alone aliens with the capability of launching a relativistic projectile
>>231046 I mean I guess it was, but I have a screen cap of rika saying that (via the transitive property) light is slower than light and light is slower than light so light and light can't be used to detect things traveling slower than light.

yeah but conversations are enjoyment based and people are free to leave when the fun is sapped out so it's kind of a balancing act of trying to communicate your ideas in a way that appeals to the person's intrigue fundamental logic helps tactically advance a point but the logical reasoning behind trying to convey a concept to a person with a different value set operating as a different informational system involves a lot of decryption and repackaging of assets it's just as much about understanding where they're at as it is knowing what you're trying to convey

Yeah, I'm speaking more from how it's currently set up and how the casting and panel talent currently talks about the game. One thing I have been liking from this International is the introduction of Day9 as the panel host. He's not a stranger to the game, but as a player he's much more in line with people of less experience and lower skill ranks. So he can approach questions from a wider base--but that base is still inside the realm of people that already play DotA. There still isn't really much to work on for people that are strangers to the game or more importantly, people who are strangers to competitive games and gaming in general.

i guess another thing to consider is that you'll be spending an extra $100-200 if you don't have applicable accessories like mouse and keyboard and a monitor so if you don't already have a computer a laptop is a more reasonable expense but it still strikes me as greedy capitalistic bullshit

You have a pecan tree? How fancy
Anno
i have very many young pecan trees around it because of these FUCKING SQUIRRELS they don't even eat the whole pecan they break the fucking thing open and throw it on the ground
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
let them grow, dig them up and plant in a pots and sell to people
TN !PcAPtAiNJo
saplings fetch a good price afterall
Anno
that sounds like a lot of work i don't know if pecan trees are in very high demand here though pecans are quite abundant in texas
Kannagi

>>231691 prepare a patch of dozen or so saplings and sell them to a wholesale store and then become a steady supplier of pecan sapling suppliers and make it a side job doesn't take that much effort, just takign care of them some and uprooting them at t some point and keeping the quality of the soil at a steady level and some trimming at times
>>231693 pecan trees are like the most common tree in texas and native to the valleys of the state though if you want a pecan tree you can just go get one like for free
>>231697 the roots are too entangled to rip them out you will need a shovel unless you're some superhulk monster that can rip about 15-20 trees spanning seven sq ft out of the ground at once
I dunno. I haven't seen or heard about any of it. I didn't even know about the stuff around 10, though.
I'm okay. I was really productive today. I did my doctors appointment and then I dropped Fish off at the hospital and went home and did a bunch of chores. Now everything is super clean.

>>231738 I dunno if the ones I bumped off the front page last night got cleaned up

I fucked up differently than usual today Instead of not doing things (my main issue) I did a thing at the wrongtime and completely wasted money, time and effort
>>231758 Oh that's neat. Iguess he'll be usable for that at least. I plan to level him and keep him around anyway because he has that +sp ability for sword users. Those characters are great for training others.
On the other hand, the 5 star Lukas I got has like the recommended IVs and he's level 40 now and actually pretty good. His def is so high.
Yeah so he'll get to survive. He'll probably be useful in those hero gauntlets anyway, I need as many decent characters as I can get.
I decided to dump my latest 20k feathers on Sheena. She's pretty tanky, she's very useful in the arena gauntlet thing since you can preview the teams. Certain teams she can just straight up solo.
