here are many features that can be a key factor of a build and more over can be points of interest, over all some older systems are full upgradable and can do what's needed, like you can use differnt brand or mem stick's together (not always) and difernet gb sizes in maximizing proformance, it's been done and will work or not work at a plug and play level. Either it does or doesn't. Dream build though, would have to have cpu and gpu cooling, but not default componets. Like proper cooling blocks and seperate cooling resi's for both.
It depends on what it's being built for, and it's proformance or gamming then it doesn't have to by all new parts, but perferably for sure if you have the bank. Memory like we were talking about can be enhanced in diferent way so. There are other things that can mod a rig too cpu parking and messing with cores, but overclocking when cooled up is obvi the way....

Make sure you look around for a good case too you want ideally something like the one I have with a section behind the motherboard for cables and stuff to hang out, so the area where the actual hot parts are is free flow for air
Just make sure it works with the motherboard you get before you finalize anything, cause not ALL mobos fit in ALL cases

well, I ended up making a post on the tech support forum for x4 I have googled and troubleshooted for days now, having learned practically nothing except whatever this is, it happens almost EXACTLY at 40 minutes from game boot, like down to the second I set a timer on my phone when I booted it last, and as the alarm went off, the game dropped from smooth sailing to effectively unplayable
that sort of pinpoint predictability tells me it can't possibly be the hardware fucking up, there'd be way more variance based on what else is running, the state of the system when I start the game, and all sorts of other shit The only things that make sense is either the game does SOMETHING at 40 minutes, or something else on my computer does SOMETHING 40 minutes after the game is launched, but not something that actually drains resources or nothing, just seemingly targets the game Needless to say, that latter option is extremely doubtful

Anyway it turns out I can actually run X4 on ultra, the big bottleneck has just been my RAM not being set up right in the BIOS it's fine for most things to just plug and play, but X4 is real damn intensive and demands you overclock the RAM for good performance
Which thankfully, the mobo's BIOS has a single button to just do Drawback: I am no longer able to use my old 2x8GB sticks. Wrong Hz Maybe I'll give 'em to my dad, if he can even use them, which I doubt. I don't really have a use for 'em anymore, I'm either getting another pair of 16s or nothing, cause 32 is a big upgrade from what I had before, and being able to just tell them to be faster is too good to give up
I still have that big performance hit in X4 after like 40 minutes, but until that hits, I'm running it on capped graphics (though with pisspoor anti-alias) at 60fps stable

alright, well, I've just about confirmed my X4 issue is with the game itself, not something else on my computer waiting for some time before coming in and screwing up X4 The test was pretty simple but I hadn't done it yet Basically, because it's so reliably exactly 40 minutes, I just played the game like normal for 35ish minutes, went into the main menu, waited there for 15 minutes to make sure I for sure passed the countdown Then I loaded back in And for a scant few minutes, the game kept running fine, then it screwed itself
This notably does NOT happen if I do the same thing after the whole thing happens. Once it hits, the only way I've found so far to undo it is to restart the game entirely
So I mean That's partly good, because it means the issue isn't just me having some bullshit running But also partly bad, because it means I probably can't fix it directly on my own
maybe I'll save up and invest in a new CPU as well it's been 6 years, I deserve a little upgrade, as a treat

Starting to get in the groove with learning coding, not really comming at all from a background of know much about strings but was working most of the day try to fix this problem that didn't throw errors. ironed out the error's but the program wouldn't respond how I wanted. So figured out and learned on the fly how it was a indentation misformation. The words were just not lined out right, more then a prob with tabing or grammar.
It's starting to make more sence the more I read or absorb about coding, there are so many diferent variations to do the same thing and it has to be exact or employ some sort of work around, that makes it happen or not. One of the cool things so far would be how you can take most any script and mod it to make a desired effect if need be.

well, judging by this current run, which I believe has now crossed the 40 minute mark with a good margin, if I'm not completely mistaken, I think I've figured out what the issue actually is I think it's a power supply issue
my working theory is basically this With default fan settings on this thing, the heat builds up quick enough to kick in a fan speed that's a bit too high, which throttles the power going to the CPU The CPU then runs slightly slower, and X4 uniquely just completely shits itself from that moment of weakness, never to recover
I base this in large part on the fact that when I tried to start up the game with the fans hard-set to 100%, the game didn't even start
as for why that heat buildup seemed to take almost exactly 40 minutes to the point I could use it as a timer and use a timer for it... that's a mystery I'm guessing also that my new profile gambit worked so well intially because it was maybe just colder in here at the time or something That or maybe the fan settings work fine with the front lid open, but I closed it between when it was working and when I tried it again, which obviously results in worse airflow

Which I mean, really, I already have good reason to believe, considering so far, it has never once mattered what I actually do ingame I can stand in empty space for 40 minutes, I can be in active combat for 40 minutes always 40 minutes

if it does solve it, I guess I just buy it on GOG as well? I really am at a complete fucking loss as to what is actually doing this at this point, nothing has paid off

honestly just initial impressions, it seems to run smoother but it doesn't have DLC yet so there's still some testing to be done, and unfortunately I won't be able to get the 7.5 beta which really stinks
but MAYBE I can run the legit version through Lutris as well, and it's a Steam runtime\proton issue? Not impossible

basically, steam overlay is a piece of shit, and actually RUNS EVEN WHEN DISABLED So I had to add LD_PRELOAD="" to the game's launch instructions to... I presume cause the overlay to error out and kill itself or something? and now it's fine
nothing's CERTAIN yet, but I mean... it's still smooth after an hour and I've not gotten to a full hour before

I'm giving it 30 more minutes before I'm satisfied it absolutely has been solved, and then I'll post that solution to my forum post so the next person who searches for this issue will be able to fix it
well all this done and solved, I still should consider a new PSU, because I know for certain the game didn't launch at all in the first place when the fans were cranked to max, which I gotta assume is because the fans take priority for what gets fed power and left the CPU hungry which is not ideal, even if it's not some MASSIVE issue since it's kind of a self-correcting issue when it happens

it turns out that didn't actually fix it in reality, somehow or other But, seemingly, turning ON the steam overlay has done so I don't even know anymore, man
It being the steam overlay... kind of makes sense, I guess, maybe I know that was on the first time I launched x4 on the new user, and I know I turned it off because I always turn the steam overlay off so

not sure, still looking at flights trying to optimize my dollars but if I can end up spending a few hours or even a night in vancouver i just might do that if it's only a few hours, it just depends on if it's enough time to venture out of the airport and what kind of airport bars/restaurants exist not pulling any triggers yet, flights are crazy cheap though - including ones only a week out not sure what's up with that but it's a good sign i'll be able to stay flexible while i'm searching

>>1143795 if you pirated it, I suggest using lutris Lutris has pretty good compatibility with installing video games and stuff, it's what it's for and then you run it through steam's proton if you really want, but Lutris worked fine for me there so there's no reason to do that of course Lutris is wine at the end of the day, it's just got some extra stuff to make things smoother
