Well whatever the actual reason it'll pass Sooner or later I love how autocorrect has gotten so bad lately I don't know how they took it from 99% accuracy to consistently doing shit like correcting "sooner" to "acooner" and "bad" to "vad", but they sure managed to make that happen

just a life update: wrote a cpu program yesterday, also modded it to see if a false positive variable would create a error. Corected the error and it functioned as logicaly once again. The huge ship I stole has docking stations onboard, so I've got a little fighter parked there with a captain paid the big bucks to "remain docked until I want to fly around" both that small fighter and this huge ship's captains are primarily paid to keep the seat warm, though the big ship's captain does get the pleasure of handling long flights and such

you kno, when I was younger n fresh, not so far ago, pre-pandemic era, 5 years ago, we had this amazing time when international artists, bands, singers came to my forgotten place with live gigs & affordable tickets. what was the name for it... globo.. globolizardation? I really loved that Oz artist came here, playing digeridoo live... only if Aliens don't disrupt global travel & net\telecomms I don't mind them
Anno
if Transmetropolitan prediction wasn't wrong, they are actually not so far away
x4 is pretty fun so far Really need to put some time into optimizing my growing empire though my trading ships, while BIG and strong, are not actually bringing in the big bucks at the moment, likely because I put their trading restriction to "trade whatever, dude", so they're trading like, energy cells and shit that have a profit margin of like 8 credits a piece Which I mean, that's up to 100% profit, but it's still 8 credits per unit
S C
Which I suppose means they're a good target for the faster, small-cargo ships They can do a ton of energy cell runs in the time it takes my big ones to do one
This is all just busy-work while I wait for a fat payday to ping my galaxy-wide alert though It's set to "any Large ship from this particular pirate faction" and when it pops, I rush over, kill their engines and turrets, and board them
moon
my brains dont operate at the right frequency when im not on a computation terminal
Anno
>>1143036 no shame in it though, gotta start the grind somewhere gives a balance of not having hard points on blast 2 4 7
S C
yeah Though granted, even the piracy is a sort of busy-work until I get a pilot or two that's skilled enough to run supply runs for my headquarter (free from a story mission) I could MANUALLY do those supply runs myself, it wouldn't be a big deal, but I wanna just get a pilot up to level three, put him in a big hauler with a small attachment of companion fighters for defense, and let him handle the supply >>1143040 It's not GPU heavy, but it's very hard on the CPU In fact, if your GPU runs hot in this game, you either have an utterly awful GPU, or a CPU crafted by god's own hands
Anno
>>1143039 I almost bought this game today, still seeing if I can run it low gcard specs
S C
Once HQ is up and running though, we're gonna have money pouring in soon enough Econ is always the big priority in games like this, it's just the ways to do it differ from game to game Some games reward trading in a big way, others reward fighting, this one... seems to just reward outright econ, production chains and the like
Anno
I made an account so I'll peep out the fourm and just be at the ready to flow spice. Have an ED account too grinded that for flight exp exploration, and the dog fight...
Anno
was going to ask ya whats that game were you can design ships that was posted?
S C
Uh, one sec, I know the game you're talking about Avorion
S C
avorion is actually somewhat similar to x4 in a lot of ways, though x4 is like, way, way more polished Granted, it runs more poorly, but that's in large part due to it actually simulating all the stuff The economy in avorion is fake. A convincing fake, but fake. In x4, the economy is very real, the only "fake" thing going on is the AI has infinite money But they're buying the stuff you're doing trading runs with because they're gonna use it They run low if you kill their supplies, in fact they fail to build your ships if they don't get the shipments they need And the AI is also actually waging war with a purpose, not just because they were set as hostile in the settings. They expand, build new stations, and all of that burns resources
I'm not entirely certain if the AI makes peace or declares war on its own or if that's static though
S C
basically what that boils down to is in avorion, you can get the space trader experience, and it's fairly solid, but it's kinda static although the galaxy itself is procedurally generated
But in x4, you can do shit like specifically sabotage a faction's economy in order to cripple their war potential and wipe the floor with them or specifically start supplying one faction with resources in order to boost their war potential, if you wanna do that or... the ol' classic. Supply both sides to make the war keep going
S C
What I might do is figure out who's making the most of some commonly used resource, and then start destroying their stuff, make it myself, and roll in money
S C
Alternatively post a crew at a gate and just demolish everyone coming through with some resource hmmm, unsure how viable that is as a strategy, but certainly I could take over a system in the highway and make some choice goods illegal, post up some cops, and get a good monopoly going Many options
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
>>1143016 nah i dont believe in federation tbh either decentralize or centralize don't try to have a bunch of warring authorities with different rules, it just makes things confusing and has all the downsides of centralization too
I guess seeing as the issue I'm having in X4 is a memory leak of some sort, I might as well crank the graphics The GPU is humming now rather than dormant, but it runs smoothly and looks VERY nice This is my big capital ship near the space highway Look at the colors
S C
I don't have an fps display so I dunno how many frames I'm getting, but it's not noticably below 60 at least granted, not a lot to display at present, so I may need to jack it down a bit later
>>1143055 This is the bridge The terminals other than the middle are entirely cosmetic, but they are a nice cosmetic The crewmembers are all individual named people, too, with skills and stuff
x4 is definitely a marathon game, not a sprint a lot of the time is spent having to restart due to the memory and also just learning the game, in fairness, but still it doesn't move quick (unless you cheese, which can have you in the tens of millions within the first hour of a campaign easily)
S C
But cheesing just drains the fun out of the game For that matter, if you just want some startup capital, you can fire up a custom game and just set your bank account to whatever amount of credits you want
I'm mostly just annoyed at the fly-by boarding cheese being in the game because it breaks immersion and I don't like having easy cheese available that I gotta consciously just not do despite it making sense as a tactic Knowing it works every single time is annoying

who up 60 minute session refining they proper usage of pipe
Anno
the whole presentation was about many other topics of course but ya know just one focus though...
I geuss pipe can get extremely complicated depending on the application or complexity of a codes initial subject. But I do remember learning about it when studying basic unix bash snytax, so I can be that there are more aspects to it rather then just "piping it through" or conecting what ever it is thats the reason for using pipe.
>>1143094 Kind of thing very prone to a slight bug in the system making it queue up thousands of that image the first time the ink runs low, so it drains the ink again the moment it's refilled
S C
oh man they didn't even charge me for shipping on these ram sticks I can definitely consider getting another set then, if it's a little less than ideal, but I mean I've lived with 16 forever, 48 should be plenty Not that I'm certain it will work with both the 2x8 and the 2x16, but worst case I go from 16 to 32 so

jesus christ it's like a half meter of snow can't even get to my car cause they haven't gotten to it yet gaming day I suppose
S C
if AGI is truly successful, it will kinda make all work obsolete, really I mean, sure, we might not quite have the hardware for everything yet, but with a machine brain doing the actual work of operation, you don't really need a perfect machine for the task, so long as it can actually do it Art will for obvious reasons never be truly obsolete, but I feel we'll have failed if the machine isn't capable of artistic expression too
I rewatched Cabin in the Woods and also Funny Games yesterday interesting how different their approach to a very similar message is, and also interesting how badly done a lot of Cabin is Funny Games is a really strange movie though One of those movies that's basically all message, purposefully kinda boring and without a real story to speak of
S C
anyway all that to say I'm now watching Bad Time as the El Royale
