insane build where I burst out like 7K damage the moment the sword's done charging, while also slowing everything on the other side and freezing up to 3 items for a combined 15 seconds Unless the enemy pumps out 20K+ damage in the first 3.1 seconds of the fight, I win, because the sword can't be slowed or frozen
S C
The damage on the sword doesn't seem like it'd do that, but the first 5 crits of the match charges an item 2 seconds, as do the first 5 weapon attacks, and I only have the one item, so... once it goes off, it charges itself another few times, I think the haste also does something or other And it does double crit damage, so one attack is like... 600ish damage twice
S C
Really if you're willing to accept there is one good build, I think crownest cutlass cloak vanessa builds are far more powerful than even dooley Obviously relying on only one item makes it game over if it's frozen, so it's not perfect, but still

It's pretty impressive how chatgpt actually manages to fake understanding to the degree it does It absolutely does not actually do that beyond the most reductive meaning of "understand", but it's very convincing for some time The cracks just start showing after a little time and it's impossible to keep believing it
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
i think that understanding isn't really a binary but like a spectrum or something way more multi dimensional it's pretty clear that GPT and the other LLMs i've worked with have Some kind of a world model because there are some generalization faculties there, which is evident if you work with them to write code there's something there, it might be at the level of college-educated 5 year old
S C
Well for particular tasks like analyzing or generating code, they're fairly proficient, that much is true, and there's definitely some generalization, but it becomes very clear if you try to do anything that's more freeflowing and outright communication-based that they really are just extremely good at outputting stuff that is a reasonable response to the prompt they're given Which works super well for code, because code is fairly easy that way There's a lot of ways to do any given thing with code, but each one of those is rigid and well defined, without a need to truly understand what the application actually is, yknow? The most you have to change in code between different applications of a function is like, the variable name, it's not like you have to keep in mind what the variable's real world equivalent actually is in a meaningful sense
But if you're doing creative writing type stuff, it all falls apart if you're unable to intuit stuff you're not directly told or can't maintain a mental model of a scene You end up stuff like a character suddenly being inside at the end of a sentence they began outside in a field, because "it makes sense for them to sit down at their desk after saying something like this"
S C
Or, for example, in a thing I did just now, I had two teams of NPCs tasked with getting a codeword from the other team in a sort of mock battle. Each team's leader was simply told the codeword, and my character just observed. The machine brain concluded the event by having one team "make a final push and managing to secure the codeword", winning the competition
Which makes absolutely no sense if you understand what is actually happening, but if you conceptualize the "codeword" as just being a sort of physical object you can steal, then it's perfectly reasonable
S C
Well, there's a lot of issues with roleplaying stuff like that, really It's actually fairly competent at it from a mechanical standpoint, once you coax it into following the rules it's competent at facilitating it, but it does suffer from all of these things that stem from not really having a real understanding of what it's doing. It's tokens arranged the way they should, and it can Yes And fairly well, but there's an absolutely obsessive level of people pleasing going on, which obviously comes from how it was trained, and a total inability to contradict the user.
Creativity is a complete wash. It can expand little by little on what you give it, and that's fine it's a machine after all, but it kinda gets itself confused once it adds some information into the mix. It loses track of what is "canon" as it were, because you said so when introducing the setting, and will overwrite it at random, which would be fine if it didn't also lose track of its own additions at a much, much higher rate. I've had a few times where it took something I introduced in the initial prompt, expanded on it, but then forgot that thing even existed in the setting at all later on, seemingly forgetting it was introduced by me because it added to it itself or something.
Also it's SUPER reliant on its training, in the sense that mashups between different concepts will make it realy confused. Like I've been trying to get it to do an RP game in a world that's basically Youjo Senki, but it's... struggling, because it's magic (medieval fantasy typically) and also ww1-like (does not have wands or elves) So it'll introduce mages in robes with long beards, in the trenches alongside guys in full infantry kit
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
yea that checks out that is the challenge, getting it to respect the scene coherently we're all tryna build a system like that where it both works creatively and also corresponds with a more formal system of rules at the same time, that's the challenge
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
what's interesting about running LLMs locally is I get to first of all tweak the params and change the model to get more relevant responses, and also there's an interesting fusion possible where you use regular code to generate some parts of the prompt, and then let it fill in the next bit, and then update your database accordingly, and then ask it for more, then process with your code... the loop is an interesting way to guide the thing.
S C
One approach to jury rig this problem away has actually been to just feed it like, a chunk of information at the start of each prompt, to keep it refreshed, and that's had some middling success, but it's really labor intensive to update that chunk Could probably be achieved by having another instance do the summarization or something, but much like how it abuses the memory function that's integrated, it'll end up writing momentary details in as though they're persistent facts
The memory function is actually outright detrimental to the kind of stuff I'm using it for, I've had it write "Emma is in a building near the frontline" or whatever into its MEMORY, meaning long after I leave that location, it still has a memory telling it "actually we're currently in a building near the frontline!"
A lot of this does come down to my usage not being what it's trained for, but it does in itself kinda demonstrate that it fundamentally doesn't really understand what's happening, or how to utilize its memory really, which I'm guessing was just tagged on with some sort of function that asks it regularly like "is there anything from that prompt you'd like to remember?" or some such It's very unlikely to be integrated into its training in any meaningful way, because I mean, how would you even? Training on individual prompts is easy enough to do in bulk, but training on the usage of memory is absurdly difficult, requiring not only that the memory is in itself meaningful, but also worthwhile to remember, not subject to change, and actually called back in a separate instance (since the same instance would of course make it impossible to tell if it actually used the memory rather than the chat log)
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
oh you don't have a system prompt field? that's unfortunate there should be something like that. idk what the latest chat GPT features look like
S C
Oh I'm just using the web interface of chatgpt, I haven't paid for API access or anything
S C
I wonder if maybe the canvas thing could be rigged up to be a sort of companion piece to this But really, I think the whole idea just has to be scrapped until they push a new and improved model that's more capable in ways I... doubt they will prioritize
I don't think it's a fundamental limitation in the structure though, I think it just comes down to the training, and it's kinda miraculous it's as capable as it is at the stuff I'm trying to force it into doing It's trained to be a pleasant yes man, so of course it would sooner just accept that sure, my elven warrior is and has always been a skeleton on a spaceship than go "wait you're in a field outside the capital city, what are you talking about?"
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
yeah, the instruction models are very much about answering positively and obsequiously they're reinforcement-trained to do so you can also get more "raw" text completion models that just try to write more without the extra guidance implied by the instruction-oriented training

>>1142605 something like aidungeon, you mean? or am I misunderstanding?
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
yeah, exactly
S C
Yeah, I mean aidungeon is a bit more capable in some aspects, but it's also... really rigid chatgpt gets stuck in loops waiting for the user to add something new easily, but aidungeon is that on steroids, it will have you walk through a forest for the rest of your natural life even if you actively try to get out, unless you explicitly type in like "I finally emerge from the forest" or similar
strengths and weaknesses I suppose, but I've been able to have some fun with gpt, and aidungeon has just been a fucking struggle >>1142610 oh yeah the old version was fucking crazy, but they overtrained it so now it sucks ass
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
>>>/watch?v=7M-IVNQS2t0 the old AI dungeon models from years ago were so unhinged it was great rip to the ol models
S C
gpt is a fair bit better at being the player, though, because then I'm the one telling it what the scene is, so it's easier for it to stick to it But, conversely, it really struggles mechanically, because it doesn't understand it only has control of its own character, not the world itself or other characters So it quickly devolves into just writing a little piece of a story each back and forth, which is fine but not what I want
I just ate a burrito from the Whole Foods Burrito Bar this is sacreligious they didnt have salsa first of all and the red onions are overpowering cilantro had stems just an all around middle finger to mexican culture

S C
kinda fascinating how both the manga and anime differ a fair bit from the novels, but in different ways
Anno
>>1142676 ya manga has better renderings and more graphic novle like art work imo.
S C
It's overall far more loyal to the novel, too Like for one, until operation shock and awe, mages don't use like, riding equipment in the manga... because they never do in the novel. Those mechanical magical horses and skis and shit, they don't exist in the novel at all, not even mentioned one time across all 13 of them Mary Sue in the anime is also significantly more blessed, though she is in the manga too she just hasn't shown up in the chapters that are translated yet, combat-wise, but she's not really a powerhouse in the novels. I mean she's DURABLE as a motherfucker, yes, but she's not spitting laser beams like a bdz character dbz*
Anno
manga animes are sometimes more in depth also it's like the sorty line of one anime might be polished more in the manga, not always story*
S C
I do overall prefer the character designs in the anime to the manga though I mean in a lot of ways the manga is likely closer to what the author envisioned, but I think the anime just looks better overall
Anno
ya I hear ya I look for the same in video games too, like the more cartoonish apearance appossed to the more realistic look.
S C
I do think the anime has somewhat influenced the novels though, which to some degree is unfortunate Like, as mentioned, mary sue really wasn't that big of a deal in the novels up to the point of the movie being released, she's literally a joke character from the beginning but now she's actually like, Tanya herself but stupid Which is funny in a way, sure, but she's so absrudly powerful
S C
I also just think the anime did a better job when it comes to the actual like, warfare Or depicting it anyway It's easier with more than just still images to work with, sure, but the manga's panels just look... I dunno, it looks so 'fantasy' The anime manages to maintain the belief that "magic is powerful, but it's really not like a single mage will usually dominate an entire front" Meanwhile the manga introduces characters right out of dragonball z, and has tanya burn the 95 in nearly every engagement, it's so STUPID
S C
Basically in the manga, once they leave the rhine the first time, it starts becoming hard to believe Tanya's THAT big a deal, and once they reach the southern continent, it becomes insane to believe she's anything special at all, being equally matched by individual mages, an entire family of them in fact, who are NOT using what are LITERALLY holy relics
S C
but it also does a really good job at the whole misunderstanding each other bit whenever she interacts with her superiors or subordinates, so it gets point for that. because it's very funny
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
I'm your favorite reference baby
S C
The anime also just has some incredibly good faces
Visha's also noticably less... curvy in the manga a strange choice, considering I'm pretty sure that aspect of her is specifically mentioned in the novel
