I think it was extremely strong in the technical aspects. Great direction, animation, sound direction, etc. But the story fell a little short and I think Imaishi played against his greatest strengths in it.

Really though I'm especially fond of the ending because it's so rare to have an ending be so bittersweet and lean so heavily on the bitter And I have a lot of love for those endings
I think the ending was very cynical which is something Imaishi has never done. It was very much not what I would expect from him, so I guess I feel let down. It feels almost like a betrayal to me although betrayal is a really big word that goes further than I would want.
I did think the ending was a little cliche though And I felt like it was very nihilistic
Well I don't particularly keep track of directors or anything, so for me it's not really carrying baggage like that I think it fits very well with the story and world, and really it sorta mirrors the game in a lot of ways too, that hardly has a Good End
It kinda tied itself up neatly, though I guess for some characters it felt kinda off Like Rebecca didn't really get much in terms of an arc or resolution, though apparently she was an addition they included later down the line after the story was probably already more or less done
