well a lot of stuff like, USES python, and also stuff that depends on python so when the version changes, a whole cascade of STUFF is depending on the old version and the new version would work fine but their dependency files don't include a version that didn't exist when they were put together so... they think they don't work so then nothing fucking works AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

well python is famously really bad with versioning and package management but idk is kinda weird if you're using your OS package manage to upgrade or the update should have triggered a bunch of upgrades to dependent packages

yeah it's basically arch with pre-set stuff I did pacman -Syu to update! that's what fucked it all well I went through bauh, but bauh just does pacman -Syu with a gui and automatic timeshift backup
pacman -Qkk | grep -E 'python.*missing|python.*changed' to find damaged packages
sudo pacman -S --needed $(pacman -Qoq /usr/lib/python*) to reinstall them
yay -Syu --rebuildall to rebuild AUR stuff

for better or worse, linux will force you to gradually adopt better computer habits I used to forego backups because "it's not like I'm gonna break it", and now I've fucked up enough I avoid rebooting without ensuring I can still access my stuff if SOMETHING goes wrong

on the bright side, you don't have to reboot a linux machine that often most wide-reaching updates just run and then you gotta restart the stuff it touched, but otherwise you're usually good which is real nice
