I like that this series is talking about basic art fundamentals
They're simple things that can really help improve your art if you're doing traditional or even styles from early modernist movements

Something I've been wondering this episode and the last is, where is the money for this art school coming from
Like even if he got his parents' blessing, they're still pretty poor
If they can't afford a private university for their kid, even a focused cram school like this one is probably pricey
Like art supplies aren't exactly cheap

He puts it in really pretentious ways
There's nothing wrong with learning how to pass exams if you're learning useful mechanics for art creation in the process
Maybe he really is just miles above the skill level at the school that there's little to learn there
He comes off as immature even if on a fundmental level, I don't think he's wrong for wanting to make what he wants to make

I like how earnest his friends are

Leaving something like 5-7 months left in the current school year
Although I guess Yatora and Yuka are still only second years
So they don't have to seriously start working on their submissions for art university applications until next year

that painting he made was really cool

The timeline of this series moves pretty fast though
It was like mid-spring at the start of the first episode and hit summer break at the start of episode two
I wonder if we'll see them try for art university or if the pace will slow down

It's not much of a drama-heavy series, at least not in the early parts
There's not a lot of romance progression but there's character growth and cute moments
Most of the early parts are episodic bits about weird people and name puns

His name, Tadano Hitohito, can also be read as "Tada no Hitohito"
Which translates into "An ordinary guy"

I really like how they've done the cutesy Komi
It's a good adaptation of what she's like in the manga

They moved this chalkboard scene up quite a bit
It took quite a few chapters to get to this point
I think it was one of the early charm points of the manga which drew a lot of people to the series

In case it wasn't obvious, the Komi in Komi-san comes from the komi in komiyushou, the Japanese term for communication disorder

the production value is high and the art is very nice
the overall tone is enjoyable and there's very little for me to criticize here
except that i don't yet know that i like the core premise
i'll keep watching for now though

It's been a while since I was reading the manga so I forgot how blissfully dumb Tadano's face can be
