First composed instrumental for the VNs by dai, who also composed many of the sentimental pieces that are used throughout Higurashi and Umineko
There's actually many vocal versions of the song, sung by the various anime seiyuu that often have particular verses suited to those characters

It seems like schools aren't limited to a single representative per competition
I think it's just mostly thanks to Sasuga ONII-SAMA and his meddling that so many of the First High's girls made it this far

Last episode the administration even offered Miyuki, Shizuka, and the red-haired girl the chance to take first place as a three-way tie because they're all from the same school, so you're right that they seem to default to avoiding intra-school competition

There's a great scale of scope to this show
I think it's got something to do with the gentle nature of it coupled with the long montage moments
Thinking back on the episodes that have come before this one, it's really easy to see just how much it's taken to bring Nagara and Mizuho to space

Which is also why space is such a good visual stage for this final moment
The space programs that bring human beings to space are titanic efforts that require incredible cooperation and involved work from many people
Going to space has a lot of gravitas to it, so as a metaphor it works really well

This season has had a lot of shows that were really impactful for me.
Shiroi and Sonny Boy, especially.
There's a certain spiritual impact.
Even now some tears well up. Not really for any reason, but they do.
