Two new shows today
Adachi to Shimamura is a yuri romance drama I believe, an adaptation of an LN
Akudama Drive is some kind of sci-fi action featuring shady criminal operations and character designs by the illustrator for the Dangan Ronpa series.

Higurashi also airs for tonight.

I don't really know too much about this one.
I think it's got some cute characters in it and it's a happy-go-lucky reincarnation isekai.

That is a lot of slimes.

also the knight uniforms are boring

I think the uniforms are pretty practical though.
They'd make good adventuring gear.
Looks like there's hoods and long cloaks like those are nice makeshift blankets when you're camping out in the woods.

What exactly makes someone a criminal that a crystal can distinguish them.

So the MC's bascially just a formidable housekeeper and can also stand just about any kind of mental or physical pain.
That's a weird assortment of sklls.

This has a real Blade Runner aesthetic going on right off the bat.

I'm really digging this setting aesthetic so far.
I mean it does look a bit like a gritty place to live but that's got a charm in its own right.

The opening sequence was strong.

I guess dropped money really is bad luck.

There's actually quite a few anime original series airing this season.
This, the show with the magical fighter pilot girls, Maeda Jun's show that's airing this weekend, Assault Lily is a multimedia franchise but the anime is the first media so it's kind of an original.
Plus a couple other things that haven't aired yet or aren't really things we'd watch.

They're really rolling out some style for these scene transitions.

These are some really Dangan Ronpa-y characters though hah hah
They're all complete lunatics with one thing they do extremely well.

She sure has a thing for protecting cats.

They're characters designed by the same illustrator, so it's par the course.
But they are extremely Dangan Ronpa-poi.

These people that are being called Akudama might be a bit weird in the head.
But this plain girl is a bit dumb in her own right.
No sense of situational awareness.

Wow she's gonna try and bluff them.
That's pretty ballsy of her.

I like the musclehead guy.
He sees a big armed tank and just just psyched to fight it

It just so happens that coincidentally that severs the entire head.

Well that was interesting.

Yeah I was going into this relatively blind.
Pretty much all I knew was it was kinda hi-tech and had character designs by the Dangan Ronpa illustrator.
It was pretty action-packed and engaging.

For an "elite academy" it sure kinda looks like an old-fashioned Japanese schoolhouse.
Couldn't they find a better campus for such an academy.

Histalent is to turn the whole room blue!

Being able to read minds but not read the atmosphere kinda makes sense.
If you spend a lot of time reading minds you probably approach conversation a bit differently from someone who can't.

Getting an assigned seat next to the mind reader is bad luck

The MC seems like a bad luck magnet to begin with.
He's got no apparent talent in this class full of superhumans.
Though I did spy a scar/scratch on his neck in an earlier close-up.
So he's got some kind of history.

Also the lead heroine is Nana but the MC is Nanao.
And the series is "Munou na Nana"
What's with the obsession with Nana.

She's trouble

His entire class is trouble!
He kinda reminds me a bit of Deku before All Might gave him One For All.

She -is- really bad with social decency hah hah.
Just reading minds without permission.
Inexplicably following people around.
Interrupting the teacher.

It's probably easy to be like that with her power the way it is

Yeah.
From the sound of it she can't turn off the base state of it.
So she probably has like a constant static noise of the people around her thinking.
She's probably, in a sense, deaf to the atmosphere around her because of that constant droning.

Really, pretty much everything on this island looks either old-fashioned or run down.
Doesn't fit the "elite academy" they called it at the start.

He's quite the expressive guy though.
That glare he was giving her there was pretty different from the rest of his expressions.

So is his power just a barrier

He must have some pretty good self-control though.
Like he seemed pretty pissed off by her reading his mind earlier.
I think a more short-tempered person would've turned off her mind-reading.

Oh unless that was him saying earlier he can't neutralize her mind-reading.

Well this wasn't a twist I was expecting.

So is she the actual talentless "Nana"

well that may be the route of the obsession with her

I guess she's super genius who's come to this island to take care of all these mutants.
She was really playing up the psychological cold-reading game with the boy there at the end.

Man wow.
For most of the episode I was thinking "well this is cute and kinda fun".
But holy fuck that absolute pivot and pirouette off the deep end at the end there.

This shot up super fast with how interested I am in seeing the next episode hah hah

I've actually been really excited to watch this episode.
Because I've been seeing some chatter about the series.
And it's very likely this isn't just a remake.
And it's a new set of story arcs.

This sounds more like a Steins;Gate OP than a Higurashi OP in my opinion.

It was true way back in the original and it's still true now.
Keiichi had every right to be scared shitless by a girl raising a cleaver like that behind his back.

Mion always knows how to play her own games to come out on top.

I feel they could've at least left the head of the Sanders statue open.

i can't remember if the scene where she pats him is there in the original or not
but she knows

Yeah, I wonder how they're gonna twist this story arc.
Aside from the things showing Keiichi remembering the baseball bat, and Rika talking with Hanyuu, it's mostly been in line with the original Onikakushi arc.
So there's got to be something that will shake things up.

Oh yeah I have a good excuse to post this every week now.

These are some really good illustrations for the ED.

Oh I see.
In the VN and the original anime adaptation, the first chapter was Onikakushi.
But for this anime, the chapter is Onidamashi.
Close enough in name to maintain the similarity, but clearly different.
That name even lampshades it, translating to English as "Demon-Deceiving"

Ah this is excitinnnngggg

It would be very higurashi to promise a remake and deliver something else.
I guess we'll see where it goes.

If it's a set of new story arcs too then that throws out the whole "how will they cram the VN into a single season of anime?" question.
