This show has a habit of doing the cliffhanger ending and then having it be nothing

This show also kills a character like every episode though so she'll probably die

If her mom dies then it doesn't leave the cast with many mooks left.
Like the MC can't die because she's the MC, and the samurai and the ninja probably won't until the finale.
I guess the monk might die.
But it would just leave the scientist guy and the cop lady left as mooks.
Unless the Yakuza guy and his little gang are still nearby.

Reminds me of that silly quip about how a single Doritos chip has more nacho flavour than a Medieval peasant would ever taste in their lifetime.
Even Sengoku Era Japan probably didn't have much cultural exchange with places like India or South Asia that would've had flavourful food like curry.

Now I'm not so naive to believe flavourful food like curry would be enough to stop the kinds of warfare that happened in the Sengoku Era, but it must be wild for someone born in that age to taste the flavours of the world.

The way the edges of their eyes get all swolen and crusty before transformation is really a bit much for me.

Yeah, pretty much.
War for territorial expansion to acquire land for food is pretty common, but I'm pretty sure the Sengoku Era's wars were brought on more by the desire of warlords to be The One to reunite Japan.

I get the ninja and the samurai , oh and the monk too, fighting primarily with melee weapons or primitive ranged ones.
But the cop lady has firearms training.
No matter how comfortable she is with tonfas it just seems plain stupid to fight with such short-ranged weapons against an infective monster.

This show's got low enough of a budget that I could see them doing it.

It's been a while since we last picked up this show
I wonder how close to the end of the season this game will cut it.

Vaulting off a balcony like that all the way down to the court would definitely hurt his feet.
And then he wants to play in a game in which his feet and legs have to be in perfect condition.

I wonder if this is the MC team's in for being able to win the game.
Though the new shorty might be in top stamina.
But he's probably still way too inexperienced to help his team beat the MC team.

An anime that runs for a full year and the MC team not even winning once definitely feels pretty lame hah hah.

Given the MC a rival that was also trained by his mom is kind of a nice addition.
I'm sure in the manga they've had more time for it to develop.
But it did come pretty late in the anime.

Being Momoharu is suffering
He's like one of the actual veteran players on their team but he still can't land baskets and his one strong point, catching rebounds, is constantly in flux too

It's always kind of wild how consistently good Doga Kobo is with theese CGDCT adaptations.
Like not one of them has really been bad.

The real achievement for her growth would be accepting that live bait is just way much efficient for catching fish.
But I think her being a wuss about it is probably a series staple.

Adjusting her bait size to the size of the fish is definitely something I wouldn't have realized though.

Shishou for best dad

I do like that they weren't like "Shishou is so perfect he took Kyo in because he's a good person"
He did it because he felt bad about treating his grandfather badly, not out of love for Kyo
But it's yeah, as he's saying here.
It's not hard to become attached to someone as time goes on.

Kyo's such an adorable dork when he's not being angsty and trapped in the trauma the Souma family has put him through.

They cut off right before the thing

Here's the first of the big twiiiists this episode.
Proof that the curse that turns the Soumas in to animals can be broken.

I guess there is some innate psychic connection between the Zodiac animals and Akito
Kureno talked about "there only being me inside me" after the curse broke.
So something that's not just them binds them to Akito as long as they're cursed.

I guess he managed to get out.

Kureno really dresses like he's some kind of mob boss.
It's pretty stylish really.

The mangaka for this series seems to have a bit of a thing for age-gap romances.
With the delinquent girl crushing on Kureno and the goth girl crushing on Kyo's Shishou

It was probably Kureno being freed that drove Akito from being a spoiled brat to a tyrant psychopath too.

I guess the significance of all this is to show a normal person can stay with a zodiac member too

And here's the other twist!
Though it's definitely less of a surprise with the anime.

In the manga, since y'know there's a whole bunch of girly-faced boys in the series, it's easy to just assume Akito is also one of them.

Yeah, it was pretty obvious here.

It did make all the intimacy with the Dog and Kureno funny before the reveal though, in the manga.
Like "sure this is a shoujo but man this is actually gay as fuck"
But in retrospect, especially for the time the manga came out, it was probably inevitable that Akito would be a girl with that stuff going on.

Also it's been fun since early on I caught myself getting caught up in the series calling Akito a guy and doing it too.
After that I tried to challenge myself to keep from using pronouns to refer to Akito but man it's HARD.
Common English just isn't well-suited to hiding pronouns.

Can't hide the voice acting either.
The voice acting always makes it obvious.

It was pretty much the voicing, yeah.
I mean it's not uncommon for androgynous anime characters to be voiced by a "manly" woman's voice but I think they could've done a slightly better job with it.
But at the same time it's probably hard to do all the tyrannical raging Akito does without breaking from that androgynous tone.
