I had a whole notepad written up with this but I restarted my computer so I could load MonHun properly since I'd given up hope.
Then ten minutes later, nevermind.

if we can't do it tonight, i wouldn't be too distressed since i have a lot of work to take care of
but im here if we do it
Anno
Well I'm consistently of the preference to watch rather than not.
But I get you're loaded with work so without Rika, I dunno.
It's probably more sensible to not watch.

I'd just like some certainty or affirmation of the situation rather than being left in limbo.

yeah, i know what you mean. is there anything you'd like to watch that we could do without rika?

im kind of being left in limbo with work stuff myself.
i dont know whether people are working or not or what's going on. i haven't heard from anyone
i need to get my part of the project done so other people can do their part but i'm getting radio silence

>>817907
okay. i can get episode 10 of that
Anno
Well we can probably do Plunderer without her since she watched all of episode ten instead of nine.
Anno
All right, I should be ready for watching shortly.
Anno
Just let me know when you're set.
okay, im set
you can start us off if you'd like
Anno
Okey dokes.
Yeah sounds good.

All right
Let's start!
Anno
Things really got violent at the twist of the last episode.
i remember the helicopter and the aluminum guy fighting
and then stuff got weird
well it was already weird
Anno
They were about to down the helicopter then this black suit lady showed up.
Licht is her old commander and it seems like they invaded this world way back when.
Licht didn't want to be violent so she held a literal gun to the heads of the main cast and a kid until he snapped.
oh yeah

the literal power level stuff makes the exposition pretty flat
it seems like there was a lot more worldbuilding for the show than actually gets used

we've been pretty constrained to the same little area for most of the show so far

yeah this is just super saiyan basically
Anno
He's gotten so powerful he can teleport.

>>817915
I do kind of like when stories make up more worldbuilding then absolutely necessary for the focus of the story.
yeah, i do too. i think that's good
but the story is pretty lol
they really don't even try. they're knowingly being really shallow
Anno
They've been good on some fronts.
Like kinda answering the whole "why does the governing body restrict knowledge and technology about flight?"
Though well they didn't directly answer it but the whole thing with the helicopter kind of answers it for us.

There's another indirect question they're sorta promising here too, that why the FUCK does this cook lady know so much in such depth about the Aces and their power nuances.
Maybe it's not an answer they'll have a chance to answer in this anime season but it's one they will probably answer eventually in the series.
they're trying to do a schierke & guts thing here it feels like
Anno
A beauty to calm the beast isn't too uncommon a trope.
yeah, but it parallels guts' berserker armor too
but just in a lot more cartoony of a way
Anno
Oh yeah apparently Licht is also just what he calls himself in this world.
In whatever place him and this girl comes from he was known as Rihito.
Which is just the same syllables so it's not really a change but they were emphatic about it last episode.

So it kinda feels like these crazy people are from Japan or something.
Which I'm kinda of curious how it links back to the MC since I'm pretty sure her and her mom had a very Japanese aesthetic we haven't really seen anywhere else in this world.
for being an undiscerning monster, he stands and waits a lot
Anno
I've never really been all too sympathetic to the noble sacrifice philosophy.
What good is alleviating other people's suffering when it's just burying yourself under it.
yeah it's pretty uninteresting
pretty
pretty lazy writing too i think*
just a manufactured idea to explain something that you want to put in your story
Anno
Eh, I can kinda see where you're coming from, but there are real people that earnestly believe in the notion too.
Or at least kid themselves into thinking that's what they're doing.

As long as it's a character trait people -real people can embrace, I'm generally of the opinion that it's valid narrative themes.
Even if I don't believe it personally.
yeah, i believe there's always a selfish reason and that just sounds more digestible to say aloud
i have a very earnest and grounded approach to crafting a narrative
i dont like glossy leaps

if you want to have gaps, just let there be gaps that allow your narrative style to come through without needing the explanation/exposition

it's better to give no explanation than one that feels like friction
of course that's gonna vary to every reader but that's a given
Anno
And this dweeb going around telling kids some exceedingly morbid parables.
What's even the moral of that story after that mutation anyway.

i think rika must have fallen asleep

really though im just rambling on my current train of thought at the moment
im sure i'm ignoring a bunch of how i normally feel about it that just doesn't fit with my current mood so im not thinking about it
i do like to stay grounded though for that very reason, so i always have a firm anchor to trace my way back to
Anno
I guess I've got a bit of a two-pronged approach to my narrative immersion.
Narratives being both believable and entertaining.
A lot of dull narration can keep me immersed because it's something that I can't go "There's no way that's true" to even if the way it's presented is dumb or structurally tenuous.
And honestly a LOT of anime falls into this space because while it's easy to establish a sufficiently reasonable premise it can be hard to present it in an engaging way.

A decent amount of course do fall into the only entertainingly immersive party because some times it's fine to throw reason away and just have fun.
The best shows are ones that can do both for me and those are usually the ones I talk about and recommend to people.

Before watching I was planning on giving her to like 02:10 before I went off and just laid down for the night.
Not that I'm on a tight schedule or anything it was just a number I picked to have one.

Either way I took some melatonin around 02:00 so I'm definitely on the woozy train right now.
Even putting together these thoughts is getting a bit funny.
yeah, totally fine to disregard natural reason for your show, as long as there's reasoning and consistency within the reference frame you set the show in
you can make some simple, shallow rules to operate within and craft a really compelling and immersive narrative that's not at all realistic
but a lot of times it gets screwed up when people try to introduce natural reason to their reference frame and it no longer fits, so now it's inconsistent and my immersion is broken

anyway, this project im working on is absolutely frustrating me anyway and i can tell
so i need to go get it done and over with or whatever

that sounds good, have a good night
Anno
Mhm, good luck with your work.
Catch you tomorrow.
