I wonder how much of his determination to save her is the directive the Id Well program seems to impart on its Mei Tantei And how much is him imprinting on her the deaths of his wife and daughter.
When they plugged the head-hole serial killer into it he had the same thought, he had to figure out why she died. But since we've seen the MC interact with her more there seems to be a lot more there, at least for her.

Like this isn't exactly following too closely to real life but I think they do pay special heed to the fact that ignoring the relevancy of money would just lead to misfortune. It would be nice if that wasn't the case, but it is, so if you don't want to live rough, you need to adhere to it.
