The manga for Chihayafuru's been serialized since December 2007, so it's been running for close to twelve years now.
The mangaka seems to think they'll be done

writing it later this year though.
I wonder how much of the manga they'll have adapted by the time this season's done.
And if they could finish it in a fourth season.

Or maybe even the reason they're doing this weird dual-episode release is because they want to time the final episode of the anime with the final chapters of the manga and need the extra episodes to do so.

I'd love to see the ending.

This former Queen and Chihaya seem to be on a pretty similar wavelength.

We've seen inklings of her magic but no actual acts yet.
I think one of those will be important for getting noticed by whoever the priest guy who's always narrating stuff works for.

Though in one of the PVs Main did spoil for us that there's something regarding her shampoo and a travelling merchant that triggers things too.
So those are probably the two conditions before things really start happening.

Yeah, it's probably a pretty slim chance realistically, that a town gate guardsman would know a professional merchant.
Especially one that looks as successful as this guy.

The paper press would probably be the hardest part of this paper-making process.
You'd probably need some heavy weights or metalcraft to make an operable press.

well a gatekeeper might be the one dealing with travelers, so it's not impossible

that was a good bit of groundedness that came from the explanation to lutz though, about how being a traveling merchant would only serve as means to an end he already has available -- citizenship

Yeah, the merchant didn't really romanticize the life of being a travelling merchant.
Though he seems pretty discerning; I bet he already figured Lutz had some romantic idea in his head about it.
So giving him that speech about the hardships and somewhat meaninglessness of engaging in it was a smart decision.

Main could use someone with merchant acumen though.
She comes up with these great ideas but comes to a standstill when she needs to purchase resources she can't get herself.
Marketing her "inventions" to get money to progress towards her ideal goal of being able to make books just seems straightforward.
