Well maybe the cryosleep she was in malfunctioned and the date it was reporting was far less than how long she'd actually been in. Even then though she was out for like eighty years by the report on the cryosleep. That's enough time for a crazy-ass future war to completely rearrange the planet and for kids in the kids' generation to not be informed of it.
It can't be a future war, because there has to be the contiunity in civilization for her people to be using the same ship the kids were for them to be able to hook them up together and leave. It's possible they're so far in the future that space travel is solved and ship design hasn't changed much.

Well remember, the kids found that ship in orbit, totally abandoned, around a planet in the deep reaches of deep space. This Polina women says she was part of an exploratory mission; what I think happened is the kids' ship and her ship were part of the same fleet on that mission and the inhabitants of the kids' ship met a similar deathly fate to the one Polina's crewmates did.
