Yeah I'm pretty sure it's elimination. They've built up this Hokkaido team a lot over the past three episodes though so maybe they're enough of a character to knock out the main team and climb to the title pennant.

From the recap they gave in the first episode though that kind of sounds like it would be a rehash of what happened in the last tournament though so I can't imagine they'd be that repetitious.
Turns out Finral has a pretty positive match-up against his brother. Being able to cancel out the way Langris attacks with his magic renders him pretty powerless.
Seems like he either has to save the day or lose now, though. His team is in trouble.

There are a lot of people moving around in this series with unique schemes And the MC's kind of just stumbling around like a goofball through it all. Like a proper VN MC ought to.

Plus Saitama is kind of serious in his own way. If anything he's one of the few most proper heroes in the series, since he does it out of a passion for being a good hero. He's certainly not a serious character though.
