This is a really old VN from like the 90s or something that recently got a remake with modern aesthetic detail, so the anime is a promotion for that.

Yeah, it feels like they're trying to show all the girls off as fast as possible.
This is a two-cour series but I guess it might be a large-enough VN that they still need to do some adaptation compression.

I'm kind of digging the kinda synthy OST tracks though.

I don't really know, I've been using an outdated qBittorrent for a long time though.
As far as i can tell the program even in its most recent versions isn't shady or questionable.
Though it can be wonky if you use a particular VPN but I don't think that's a concern for you.
