This old timey traditional youkai theme is something you really onyl see exclusively in otome stuff.
I wonder why that is.

Hm, that's not entirely correct.
There's an ecchi harem romcom running in Jump or one of its affiliate magazines that takes a lot of inspiration from traditional youkai/ayakashi.
And Uchouten Kazoku is pretty gender neutral while taking those youkai and other monsters and putting them in a modern urban setting.

There's definitely a tendency towards a female audience though.

A lot of the youkai stuff for boys is less classical though.
The mix between these classical aesthetics and youkai and stuff is something you really only see a lot in otome shows.

A lot of the other youkai stuff is more contemporary.

Shielddad and his Daughteru Menagerie

It feels like Filo's becoming more reknowned than him at this point.
Might be for the best though.

Well she really stands out.

Technically so does he.
The shield on his arm is kind of a Big Deal.

It seems like he's fallen into an unexpected niche of a healer/alchemist/merchant

Oh I remember this being talked about in the last episode or the one before it.
Sasuga the Spear Doofus made things worse here.

He's going to have to sort out the problems between his two daughters before long.

His team is pretty versatile.

His skillset is turning turning out pretty useful too since he's clever with it.

I think it's also that the Shield Hero abilities are actually pretty strong, but the whole being unable to level up yourself and having to rely on others made previous ones seem unheroic.
And so a Shield Hero that spent all their time low level never got all the cool abilities.
So they
they've always seemed useless.

I wonder if the other heroes get skill trees like that.
And if they're as versatile as his.

He could really cool it maybe a bit with the hardcore penny-pinching though.

Well in terms of attention.
I think in the broader picture Naofumi doesn't see Filo as anything more than a daughter.
Raphtalia's a bit further along on that scale than her.

Time for the Worst Misaka.

That would be kind of interesting, pitting Accelerator up against some advanced magic users.
So far for the most part this series has pitted magic against magic and esper against esper.

SUPER MISAKA

I guess Touma really is the only one that goes up against magic users.

And it's been pretty strongly hinted his hand is a weird abnormality which isn't magic or ability.
So he doesn't really belong to either group.

Not that feeling a vehement hatred for Accelerator is unjustified for a Misaka.
