Well the anime is still doing really, really well in Japan.
It's both popular and selling well, as with the source material.
I think the second season got confirmed so quickly at the end of the first season because they didn't expect it to be so explosively popular, considering they animate the show most of the time on pennies.

That said, this final episode was actually pretty high-quality.
There was a lot of clean and motion-heavy scenes.

There's kind of a funny blend of stage "magic" and real dragon magic going on here.

I just noticed this episode that Lucoa was a bokuko.

Well Quetzalcoatl itself is commonly portrayed as a male in myth.
So it kind of makes sense for Lucoa to talk like a guy.
