It's an LN series and a tabletop RPG, though I don't know which comes first and how much they lean off each other.

I'm not adverse to the premise they've shown us but beyond that my opinion is pretty tepid.
Will need a larger cast and more time to develop to hopefully get more engaging.

I think the character designs for this show are done by one of the Kancolle artists.
You can really see it in that brown-haired girl, she looks a lot like Yukikaze.

The designs are very sharp.
Kind of like kancolle.
I can definitely see ther influence.

Think of it like those battle academy type LN series that were really popular before isekai overtook them.
Stuff like Rakudai Calvary and Asterisk.
This is kind of similar right now but maybe they'll actually fight evil things and not just other students.

It's also got a bit of sword and sword-style fanservice going on.

The author wanted to start the tournament arc early.

Well this probably-OP does make it seem more like a battle academy show than anything.
Still might be fun.

Everything in the manga is kinda fluffy and cute.

but designs good

It's a really exhausting drama about girls making out and then stabbing each other in the back.

This reminds me a lot of the show about the (un)lucky girls.

I was kind of thinking that too.
Though it doesn't have (from what I can see) the potential for sheer absurdity that Anne Happy had.
But in terms of the normal stuff it's got a very similar feel.
