Until the end of this season, which was this past wednesday, it's been a buildup towards A Big War Against An Evil Empire From here on out, it's the author not wanting to end the series yet, so the whole fucking thing gets drenched in contrivances and inconsistencies Like it's entirely reasonable to have a plot thing happen because "this character\group is arrogant to a fault and just didn't consider this", but you can't have the whole latter half of a story be boiled down to "the evil empire who have demonstrated to not only be capable fighters but genuinely cunning just... didn't consider any of the obvious things they and the audience both know"
Really Invincible could have just ended when Nolan like, flew away from earth in Season 1, and it'd be a perfectly good, tight one-shot story Season 2 was still good, but from that point onwards the story just goes from "pretty damn good" to outright poorly written

Adding new things to keep the story going isn't even a problem, but when it is completely at odds with established lore and more importantly motivations, it just tells the audience their investment in the story was a mistake, because the stuff before isn't relevant
A good reveal, even one you pull out of your ass because you just thought of it, reframes the past of the story, makes you go "oh shit I think differently about this and that now!", it doesn't make you wonder if the author forgot the baseline motivations and mechanisms that set the story in motion to begin with, it doesn't make you feel like a dumbass for treating previous reveals as worth keeping in mind going forward.

I actually like, like Invincible is the worst part I like what it was doing at the start, I'm actually pretty satisfied with the way it ended (with one big exception cause I think it was cowardice) But it really is not like, good in the sense of being well thought out or even having much of anything to say The early bit had a lot of potential, really the reason it got so much hype, by doing "ok but what if superman went rogue?" except not Homelander rogue but like, actually had other plans the whole time and isn't just a power tripping creep It had some sauce there, I think. Even s2 with Eve going "I wanna actually do good not just beat up villains" had some sauce, it could have really done some shit along the lines of like, with great power comes great responsibility, dealing with the moral situation of super heroes, whether they can justify being neutral on a political scale Eve can literally make anything, and she's using this miraculous power to punch bank robbers and stuff while people literally starve or worse. The superman movie did actually gesture towards that sort of thing but it fumbled the ending completely, to nobody's surprise.
