I mean just baseline, you can wear... as many backpacks as you want, seemingly? you'll be dogshit in a fight, because it's not easy to fight with every part of your body covered in heavy backpacks, but if you're just grabbing loot like a goblin, you absolutely can just have a bunch of military backpacks strapped to your body

all items have weight and volume, meaning you don't have the stupid zomboid thing where if you fill a glass bottle, you can't put it back in your backpack because it's heavier now

the combat is significantly tougher though
Like, sure you can go toe to toe with a zombie without issue as long as you have a weapon, but unlike in zomboid, you're gonna seriously consider whether you really wanna stay and fight if there's like 4-5 zombies coming at you, at least early game
in zomboid, once you have a weapon, you're not really gonna think about running away unless there's at least like 20 zombies

also due to the turnbased nature of the game, unlike in zomboid things like armor genuinely do matter
Like, in zomboid the best decision is always just enough clothing to stay warm and never any more, because that's encumberance points you can use for loot and you should never actually be hit in the first place
but in cdda, you're gonna tank some hits, and that's not even leaving the realm of zombies. Sometimes you're fighting xenomorphs, or someone with a fucking shotgun. you're gonna want some armor, even if it slows you down a little

I've finally progressed high enough up the science tech tree to be allowed to make soap
with this, I can wash all the gunk off of zombie clothes, and with tailoring I can repair them
eventually I'll get started with firearms, but they're REALLY loud in cdda
and not all that useful until you're good with them, though that's how it is in zomboid too, it's just even more brutal because well, turn based

I guess I should try to modify my car a bit too, while my food supplies still last, at least get it good enough that I can drive through hordes in search of better loot, or just to get an idea of what buildings are around

I make like 20-30/hour depending on the project but stuff that is in the coding domain expertise or like law/health/finance all start at like 40-50+ or it regularly shoots up to like $60-80/hr for priority projects
there's a lot of stuff that's like using and rating claude code outputs or stuff like that

it's pretty generous on the pay and the workflow is pretty lenient
like you try to do a certain task using LLM helpers and then you just spend a while filling out some ratings and provide rationale for your ratings in plain english so that LLMs can process that plain english and build it into their training

what i generally do is all generalist stuff that doesn't really dip into domain expertise. so i'm just looking at how people use LLMs regularly for simple tasks (e.g. "Hey help me write an email to my coworker telling them that I'm taking time off due to parental obligations as my wife is havin a baby") and then compare two different responses (or more) and try to capture what made either response better for the specific task

there's a rubric-writing subclass of tasks which pay 30-ish for me where i do the same thing, but write strict rubrics that help draw hard boundaries (e.g. "the response should not say/do ____ specific detail")

those two classes of tasks cover a big chunk of the workflow, but applying it to specialty tasks like "claude help me write a code that integrates all flight data from free APIs and find the cheapest flights based on [metric x,y,z]"
having someone who actually can review code and describe what the model is doing poorly is a HIGH value skill there

this worried me a bit at first because i thought it would drive homogenization, where we all just put what we think others want to hear, but this doesn't really happen this way too often
instead, it's more a check for glaring issues and internal consistency. where subjectivity comes into play, we generally treat that as valid data differentiation
it's better to have a few stratified opinions on subjective matters than to homogenize the signal, because LLMs are disparate enough to find meaning in sparse signals like that

i dunno i feel a lot better about AI overall from having worked on this stuff
i pretty firmly believe AI is more likely to wrap more people up in collaboration than the people it drives out of work
the data needs are just insane and it seems like it would operate best if it incorporated everyone's signal

i can provide some pointers
it's pretty accommodating though. every project has like pages of documentation with clear instructions
it's a bit of up-front commitment to learn the individual projects and soak it all in, but you can claim the time spent reading instructions which is pretty generous

you record your own time with clockify or whatever and submit time spent on the tasks

i generally alternate between long projects that take 1-2 hours per task, and doing some other quick things that take like 5 minutes each

there's also projects where you write system prompts for specific purposes. those projects pay really well and are generally focused on specific expert domains
like i did one for parsing content from audio transcripts and separating qualitative data from quantitative data, extracting insights from the transcript with specific quotes that support each insight, and drafting new suggestions for people to interview and what to ask based on whatever the focus of the research is, which was pharmaceutical market landscape stuff

it's kinda fun being able to materialize ideas that i wouldn't actually be able to monetize on my own. i have good ideas that would be useful, but just don't have any way to leverage it to market
and this stuff doesn't necessarily have to be a valuable tool in itself, but more about staging tasks that can be qualitatively measured and be iteratively improved upon from training

they take the stuff one person builds then move it to a different project stage where other people fill in the input data and rate the performance, and then another person writes rubrics for grading the LLM on its performance

idk it feels gratifying to do jobs where the impact can be felt. im sure you'd find stuff that you'd be interested in working on but i just dunno if they would meet your pay standards

and i get a pretty healthy referral bonus if you do 10 hours of work too which i would really appreciate
between 100 and 500 depending on the domain expertise

i'm really blessed to have some IC work that is actually generous after grinding low pay stuff for so long

on an earlier save one of the first zombies I killed was a member of the bomb squad in life, giving me an absolute beast of an armor set. Full bomb defusal kit, the kinda shit they put on in Iraq to deal with strange wires on the side of the road

it was however very heavy and slowed me down a lot, so because I had not realized I wasn't playing by zomboid rules anymore, I did not wear it and I got my ass handed to me

the national guard one is lighter, but has less plate pockets and also only covers the upper torso, while the US army one covers the whole torso, which is a big upgrade

Those are apparently often stocked like crazy with supplies, the only real downside being it's so far in the forest getting there with a car will take some doing

LMOE being Last Man On Earth, they're basically prepper bunkers, by preppers who had a LOT of resources to work with

honestly maybe the strat for CDDA is to do most of the exploration and fighting in the winter, when it's cold enough that the ridiculous amount of padding doesn't cook you alive

The cabin I spawned in is a little bit to my north, and I realized there was still some stuff I wanted to get from it earlier today, so I headed up there, and a fucking wasp nest had cropped up near the road. That wasn't there when I left initially
wasp nests are a real problem, too, cause cdda wasps are the size of like, dogs
and also they are very hostile, and numerous, and difficult to hit, and fast
so I gave that a wide berth. Might come back with a molotov eventually just for the hell of it. chuck it in, get back in my car and take off, let it sort itself out
not that there's much point to it, I doubt there's any real reward for dealing with the wasp nest beyond it no longer being a threat, and as mentioned earlier I'm probably moving to the LMOE bunker soon, probably when I wake up tomorrow cause my character is starting to be a bit calorically deficient and I assume the LMOE bunker will help with that

Ya, zomboid is pretty pog, but cdda really is just better across the board with the exception of being strictly single player, at least imo.
Like I love zomboid, but the zombies really aren't all that threatening and there's a huge chunk of the game that serves little purpose or is outright inaccessible without fucking with the game settings.

Like you can fortify your base to hell and back in zomboid if you want to, but it's entirely for role playing

You've got Kevlar vests and stuff which while good at zombie defense is primarily acceptable as a agility tradeoff against firearms, which exactly 0 of the threats you'll face in the game are capable of using.
I'm generally not a big fan of game mechanics that are basically in there entirely for, like, larping purposes

At least they added animal husbandry in 42 so cooking is something you can actually engage in.
Why was it even possible to make stuff with milk and stuff when all of the milk on the map has expired by the time you settle down enough to spend time cooking?
I don't know for sure if cdda lets you raise animals but even if it doesn't, the list of recipes is so fucking comprehensive it's entirely acceptable for a small part of them to be effectively duds
I mean shit, I've been frying raccoon meat in oil i made from a raccoon's fat to keep myself calorically above water, and I made a hamburger from the leftovers
You can even eat the zombies if you're fucking desperate but I think that'll make you hella sick

That and honestly I'd be surprised if a game that lets you strip a car down to its base components and rebuild it as a tiny generator... Doesn't let you milk cows if you can find them.

idk in our multiplayer game the zombies did get overwhelming from time to time
you get in a bad spot it can be harrowing
but we were pretty casual
didn't really know all the mechanics but built up some defenses and got some skills up

The thing is in zomboid there's very few ways to get into a situation you can't simply walk away from, unless you enable sprinters I guess

there was a few things there that are of some use, but it's not really as stocked as I thought
it was more like one of those actual preppers, except they got bored halfway and just left some canned goods and stuff to get them through a few weeks, and some very basic tools, and that was it

I might go back there for the exercise equipment one day though

I did get fucked up by a spider for my troubles though
nothing too bad, but my pants got a bit ripped and I had to use two of my bandages to keep my legs intact, so that was a bit spooky
I don't have much in the way of leg protection, after all, only my vitals are really covered by much of anything
My knees and elbows, too, but like, that's not really where the hostiles go for that much, it's just nice to have cause they're not that heavy and help a little
