the eggheads who make Sodium apparently already got that mf working with vulkan not as a public release, but dev-side, it's already vulkan-ready I can't wait to get 120+fps stable with shaders and all the bells and whistles cranked up I already get 120fps if I don't really do much, or can anyway, and while I can't actually TEST it with vulkan, I gotta imagine it'll do better once shaders are actually available cause like AMD
I mean I can probably already get great FPS if I just don't run voxy or whatever, but like... going back to minecraft without render distance expansion feels fucking stinky apparently mojang's looking into just putting in something like DH in vanilla, though, so that oughta be cool once they support vulkan, I guess they can just go fucking crazy mode?
really the fact minecraft has been stuck on opengl, which stopped being updated when trump first got elected, is crazy stuff I built this computer after opengl stopped being updated, man
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
its crazy how long opengl has stuck around despite the api being so oldschool and inefficient
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
i guess people love it for that but man the GPU interfaces have changed so rapidly even vulkan is kinda awkward and out of date
yeah but vulkan is more modern, and does also share opengl's overall thing of "it works on pretty much everything" that, and you know, it's gotten updates in the last decade
I don't know enough to speak confidently on any details, though, all I know is when I see vulkan I pog because it plays well with AMD and linux both And that's great eats for me, an AMD user on linux I mean shit, proton is basically just a translation layer for vulkan, isn't it? Like the thing is pretty fuckin' good
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
hmm ya proton translates directX to vulkan
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
anyway yea vulkan is a good thing and a big upgrade over opengl
rip to the people on computers from the 20th century, I guess, cause there are computers that can't do vulkan But like... bro, how are you even coping with minecraft on something that old? You playing at 10fps? do you even have USB ports?
mfers on twitter are SO fucking mad about the move to vulkan, too, and genuinely I can't fathom what besides sheer ignorance could motivate it Like, vulkan is just better, across the board if your computer can run a modern browser, I imagine it can handle vulkan

>>1172377 it's good to see your spirit up, was gonna say taking ton about programing and wayland, and linux biz has kept mine up as well. Learned so much about shiz from just reading the posts here. And sometimes later down the line it appiles to something I end up doing. Linux is meticulos, and has to been hands on, like every moment of use. But I dig that part about it.

people are scared of change they don't realize that half the reason Windows is so decroded is they never upgrade anything for fear of scaring their customers and now their software stack is a pipe // POS

Microsoft deliberately keeps bugs in stuff because people end up making stuff work with it, cause they kinda have to, and that means you can't fix them because that breaks fucking everything for a whole shitload of people

apple is based for this they're just like 'you liked this API? sorry it's gone now'

> Previous work assumed refusal behavior to be encoded as a single direction in the model's latent space; e.g., computed as the difference between the centroids of harmful and harmless prompt representations. However, emerging evidence suggests that concepts in LLMs often appear to be encoded as a low-dimensional manifold embedded in the high-dimensional latent space. Just like numbers and days of week are encoded in circles or helices, in recent advanced neural networks like GPT-OSS refusals are becoming ingrained in complex multi-directional clusters and one-directional ablation is not enough to get rid of the refusal reasoning.
