I'm doing a boring grind on runescape so been watching movies all day. Rewatched Scarface earlier too.
God, I'm so America-pilled today. Nostalgic for a culture that was never my own.
Snowtown. Is a good Australian movie. that's probably the only one I can think of. I've never even seen the Castle. Even though I'm a lawyer. People say to me you're a lawyer and you've never seen the castle??! But no.
I won't fault you for enjoying boobies, but "corrupting" isn't really that appropriate a description considering the main character was already a piece of shit scumbag who was down to kill before he even got the first offer >>1172150 literal dickhead energy
you can definitely read a little into scarface and get something like that, but honestly I don't really feel like there's much of a moral to the story beyond maybe the \\\ something like, the more money you have, the harder it is to know if the people in your life are there for you or for the money "mo money, mo problems"
I mean Goodfellas is the easy example It's less 'jumpy' in terms of chronology, too, like you get a better sense of how these characters become known quantities and work their way up, with Tony you don't really get much of a view into how exactly he's ended up where he is, he just kinda does
It's not that Scarface is bad exactly, it's just I don't think it's particularly good when judged by the present day's movie canon Like it was obviously fucking great back when it came out, it was enormous and inspired basically a whole genre of gangster movies But those movies have since improved a lot on the formula, in part by roping in (usually former) members of actual organized crime Not that realism is necessarily a benefit in all movies, but certainly with something like this I think it adds a lot for there to at least be a conceit that this was something that might have really happened
But really it's just that there have been some really great entries in the years since. Most movies are slop, so it's not like everything's better than Scarface obviously
>>1172155 If you've ever got some hankering for some True Crime it can scratch that itch

Which is really what I mean by "disappointing" I watched Scarface relatively recently, because I'd never gotten around to watching it in full before (though I do think I actually did once very long ago, but that's really long ago) and like I mean it's good I guess, but I had expected more from it considering its place in cinema history, I guess

>>1172150 i watched that recently he really is a force of nature that innocent driver just standing there while he pulls up with his gas canister

that was a little silly like if anyone's gonna press something against my forehead that isn't a temperature checker i'm outta there but i guess that was just his villainous intro friendly ol boys never saw it coming
>>1172161 Yeah that's kind of the point. Everyone is just friendly and neighbourly and don't even see it coming >>1172162 No. Should I

>>1172163 I would recommend it but its possible ot wont be as funny to a non American, especially one who isn't from NYC.

but it is a beloved comedy centered around a court case and a cousin vinny who is a lawyer
Rei !p8eYCadcMo
probably the third or fourth best American film about a court case first would be To Kill a Mockingbird followed by 12 Angry Men then My Cousin Vinny or Kramer versus Kramer (I dont know much about this one)
Rei !p8eYCadcMo
12 Angry Men inspired many people to go into the field of law.
Rei !p8eYCadcMo
Mockingbird s less about legal stuff than the others but it has a lot of stuff in it about a court case nut *but the lawyer is the protagonist's father it's semi autobiographical and was adapted from the novel lf the same name *of the same name and is widely considered to be among the nest American novels of the 20th century
Rei !p8eYCadcMo
It's widely taught in schools as well. Gregory Peck's depiction of Atticus Finch is one kf the best acted roles I've ever seen the novel one the Pulitzer prize and the film won three Oscars. Its about racial injustice in the siurhern united states during the 1930s, it would be interesting to hear your perspective on it.
The Platform not actually an elevator I think there is a movie that does take place in an elevator, but while I remember no details, I vaguely remember it being stinky
Rei !p8eYCadcMo
wow, The Castle is really popular, I might check it out

>>1172173 the one where theyre all trapped with an evil spirit?
>>1172175 no, it's basically a prison of sorts it's a LONG shaft, with floors, and there's a hole in the middle that goes all the way down from the top each day, a platform is lowered from the top with food on it, and stops at each level in turn obviously, those at the top levels get great food, those at the bottom get crumbs and dry bones if they're lucky and now and then people are shuffled around
incredible how several times a month there's a new development with windows 11 that's like "the newest update has a bug where it actively looks for your most important documents and deletes them before filling the sectors on the drive they used with junk data. this only affects about 15% of users, though, so there is no real reason to be worried"
compared to 11, vista had an incredibly good reputation
think i slept wrong on my shoulder cause it hurts like a motherfucker life is falling apart again I have to go to work in case it matters, but I don't think it matters

I dunno if I can even function anymore If things are going well I'm anxious and nervous When everything inevitably falls apart I'm stressed out, irritable, and can't think straight, I have no energy and no motivation, and I just try my best to keep everything inside because I can't fucking handle talking to anyone about anything because they can't help anyway and it's just a fucking pain
I was fucking stupid for thinking anything would actually work out anyway I'm not supposed to be leveled out or stable or have a future It's supposed to just be the void, so the void is back and it will always come back so I think I'm just gonna fucking give up
S C
I tried, I thought I was gonna naken it, I ran out of time, so I'm done I think I don't wanna anymore I'm tired
