it's kind of like if you played dorf fort but you only got the 5 lads you start with, and now you've got 4 people doing projects and if you've played dorf fort, you know that misallocation of time and resources on its own will at absolute best put your fort in a bad position
you can get more colonists, but even then you're mostly just going to be reduced to setting up building projects that are done with no real sense of priority cause building stuff is most of what you do in rimworld, the rest is micromanagement that's necessary, but mostly a one-time setup, like cooking orders and that kinda thing

there are some decisions to make for a zomboid server though, like what kind of game we'd want long term loot respawn makes it more casual and people can hop on whenever and be kinda okay, but it also makes the experience overall a bit lesser cause, you know... respawning loot makes a lot of rare loot a matter of grinding a few hot zones same with zombies kinda I always turn off zombie respawn cause when I clear and area, I want it to actually be cleared, but it can make newly spawned characters kinda, you know, just start in a total ghost town because the first batch of players cleared out all of muldraug over the course of a week or two and hoovered up anything useful cause that's what you do in zomboid for obvious reasons we're never gonna RUN OUT of zombies or loot, but spawn locations might end up very resource and zombie poor after a relatively short amount of time just cause that's where everyone starts
Liike, Louisville will not be cleared before we all get bored, you can't reasonably clear out Louisville without making that your project for the next month or so of real life human time

which is fine, Smoker needed a reason not to pick it, but it is annoying because it doesn't say it does that, and I stacked it with fit (+2 fitness from 5 baseline) meaning I only got the 1 level which I could have grinded up myself and not have to deal with the other detriments of Smoker At least with the beverage mixing of b42 you can make The Farmer's Breakfast (my own recipe) which consists of basically 51% water, 42% cow milk, and 6% gin well, those aren't exact and don't add up to 100 cause I'm doing very rough calculations here, I just mixed it in a water dispenser bottle, so it was like 7.6L of water, 1L of gin, the remaining amount up to 15L being milk
the water needs to be 51% of the liquid for autodrink, the milk is for combatting my high hunger and also just keeps your weight from plummeting, and the gin, well that's because with how rare ciggies are now, you can't afford to actualy light up a cig unless you need to get rid of the stress specifically, I.E you're about to fight some zombos, so I'm daydrinking at absolutely all times to keep the Bad Feels from all that stress at bay it's not enough to actually cause drunkenness, but it combats sadness, and I think works as a passive light painkiller, though it might make my character sleepy a bit faster than baseline, though evidently not by a whole lot

dang you're pretty good at the game huh me and friends we just got into it for a few days straight with a server i was running on v41 and we were levelling up skills and slowly learning how to build walls and stuff to secure the base
it's so easy to be like walking away from a zomb and try to kite them and get bitten anyway
I've played a lotta zomboid I usually turn on saliva-transmission only as well, cause in singleplayer it just feels utterly meaningless to be like "am I infected?" Like, if you are, you've already lost, so why should you waste several actual real life hours just to see if you make it, only to die anyway? and in multiplayer, it's more manageable cause you're playing with other people and making a new character makes sense to keep the game going, but the netcode's a little scuffed so it's easy to get caught out by a zombie that just kinda phased over to you from beyond the veil, so bites-only is a good compromise to keep the risk present, while still making MOST of the occasional jank not result in game over for a charater you've trained up from scratch without the luxury of speeding up time
chopper on sometimes rather than once is also good for multiplayer, gives everyone a good excuse to spend a time in the house and organize or read cause the day's burned anyway, but unfortunately it's... buggy in 42, so we had to turn it off It worked, but it uh, worked too well
USUALLY, what the chopper does is generate loud noise and attract zombos while it's hovering over a player it's seen after spawning in (this is why you should stay inside the whole day) And it did that, my buddy accidentally jumped out the window and got spotted (and FUCKEd his leg for a whole week) but after the helicopter left, every zombie we encountered was beelining for our base, for days and days afterwards it fixed itself after a restart, but unfortunately what seems to have happened is the chopper went away but the server didn't clear what amounts to a flag that tells all zombies "go here" where it last spotted us, after the chopper left, so every single zombie on the entire server (I'm PRETTY SURE the chopper event is genuinely global, it just doesn't actually matter usually because there's a limit to how far zombies can move in 24 ingame hours) was gradually shuffling towards our base,

BUT the benefits of 42 are still huge! there's blacksmithing, there's carving (level 9 can carve baseball bats!) tailoring has actual uses outside making god-armor from an apron and some strips of leather, cooking has been expanded, there's animal husbandry so there's also leatherworking and butchering, and an actual real source of milk and eggs so you can bake stuff, made better by the expanded selection of crops, which are now not a total meme, so you gotta plant the right crops in the right season and stuff hunting is real too, you can hunt actual deer with an actual gun
it used to be you just planted some cabbage and potatoes in the snowy ground and put an antique oven next to them to keep them warm, and they grew just fine not anymore, out of season, enjoy your total waste of precious seeds and 0 exp for your efforts carpentry is harder to level now, but less punishing cause you get rain collectors at 3, which can be achieved via life and living (which, now, caps out and won't teach you more after level 3 of the skill it's teaching)
it really is an absolutely enormous update in terms of both the amount of content and the depth of each thing new crafting menu is utterly fucking awful, but what can ya do, it's made by programmers, I doubt they have a UI designer (they obviously don't, because the UI in zomboid overall has never been like, good, it's just that the crafting UI is especially offensive)

i think in some ways coding is applied philosophy but it's other stuff too but i don't actually know much for the old dead white man philosophy i'm not namedroppin nobody
I actually dislike it when people use "coding" to refer to programming. Since it also has been and is used to refer to many things althat are not programming. like writing HTML before HTML 5, back then it was still a markup language. There's also medical coding which is the practice of assigning code numbers to specific symptoms, diseases and treatments for use in billing and medical databases. I had some other examples but I forgor. Edge case is writing in assembly because arguably assembly is not a programming language.

Oh I guess query languages and then whatever maniacs are manually writing XML or JSON. Hardware description languages also aren't programming languages but they're a lot closer in spirit.
