I guess one BIG deviation that's immediately obvious is that in the netflix series, while it only covers the first book, the whole of humanity's endeavor to counter the alien threat is like, a group of 4 friends who went to oxford together while in the book, it's you know, a global issue, and also it's chinese so it takes place majority in China rather than the UK
