Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
yea i hear getting infections while hospitalized is pretty common
Anno
it should not be, ppl go there to get healed brother
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
the word "should" in this situation doesn't really help i wish it weren't like that
its just kind of crazy that i passed out and went to the hospital and they were like "yeah the white blood cell count is high because he threw up its probably totally not indicative of something that caused fainting and vomiting like an infection"
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
oh wait so you had the infection before the hospital visit then
yeah the bloodwork at the hospital revealed my white blood cell count was DOUBLE what it should be and the hospital just ignored it completely and didnt even tell me it was high i found out from my primary care this morning
They didn't. They saw the elevated WBC and assumed that it was up because I threw up. And throwing up can elevate WBC because it's stressful but it seems backwards to make that assumption
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
oh right yea that seems pretty weird clearly cause // yea seems backwards
cause X -> throwing up and WBC++ not cause X -> throwing up -> WBC++
>>1147419 alright, that's the best argument so far that these things are something approaching sentient
well, barring methodological errors, anyway and personally I find that more likely than the machine brain understanding it's being trained to harm in a broad sense well, I guess there's a chance it has an internal understanding of what a stereotypical Bad AI is, and during training it was beneficial to switch that kind of personality on
I dunno if I'd agree it's "good news" that so many things are tangled together in the AI's internal mechanisms, nor would I say it should be seen as "good things" being intertwined it's more that everything is intertwined along various vectors, and retraining any arbitrary thing can have massive ramafications across the entire fucking thing, and that isn't good. that's very bad, actually
Like what if you retrain it to be less formal in its phrasing, and suddenly it starts coding like yandere dev because it was helpful to adopt a "dumbass" persona to achieve the desired training results for less formal speech? realizing the thing is even less predictable than previously thought is good in itself, but only because you found out, not because it actually is like that they're supposed to be tools, predictability is kind of the baseline we gotta hit before they can be used for anything on a large scale
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
this seems like a step towards making LLMs more explainable and predictable tbh
S C
I mean yeah, finding out about it is good knowing more is never bad news, but the actual situation that's been discovered is not really a positive one, I think
Though, in a way it would allow for more holistic retraining if the various connections are understood
what do we even fucking do if the chance went up? like if we determine it's actually going to hit, what the fuck are we doing? >>1147432 I guess that's a viable strategy, at least if broken into chunks it'll do less damage though do we have the capability right now to hit something going that fast towards us with a warhead?

uhh blowing it up havent you seen Armageddon
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
yeah the asteroid's path becomes extremely predictable once it approaches we'd have like 8 years to prepare
S C
oh yeah true, we've got a lot of time to run the maths and it's not like we haven't already done stuff like land on an asteroid simply ramming one with a warhead should be easier than landing on one
Anno
why not just use a traction mechanism pull it of harms way
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
why not set up a bunch of asteroid-sized pool balls and set up the sickest trick shot of all time

I think my mom was just upset that Jan and I are so close. And Jan is very friendly so he was starting conversations with the waitress at the restaurant and just generally we were having fun. I don't think he was being loud or rude! My mom was going on and on about how everyone in the shop was staring at him but I don't think that's true www

my strongest memory of jan was when he drank like two big bottles of sake at eku's house and got super wasted and then he threw up in my car it sounds bad but we had a cool time eku's room was pimped out with the classic otaku style wall scrolls and figures and nendos no space on the wall was left un-anime'd unfortunately i was the only one really driving at the time and we each lived in like a triangle with 1.5 hours of travel between each point so we only met up like once

The ones this store carries also have digital storage so I can be selective with what I print off Plus the store also carries the photo sheets so I could save on those too
Yeah, it's basically a polaroid. These are the cameras that they use for chekis at idol lives and maid cafes. The print-outs are really high quality. And then you write on them and personalize them and stuff.
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\

I still can't get over how the anime takes so many liberties from the source material, and then you read the manga hoping for more faithful adaptation than the anime, and the manga is fucking DBZ after Arene
in the manga, you get the impression the army is wholly meaningless, because the republicans have a guy who's legitimately "moon-destroyer"-tier like why is there a war when this one guy just took out several batallions with a fucking ki blast?
S C
do the people adapting the series just think the actual LN story lacks sauce or something? in the anime they glaze the Sues like crazy, despite them being basically bit parts in the LNs in the manga, Mary's literally depicted explicitly being blessed by like, an angel
NL made the card-in-clothespin shot mid-rant about how watching him has nothing to do with autism, less than a minute after returning from a short aside to watch some brainrot short videos
Whoever's up there in charge of comedic timing fucking loves this guy

ya i had it on the TV playing in the BG nice to see the actual moment instead of the replay
S C
oh for sure
S C
is your TV hooked up to your pc as a monitor, or do you have one of those smart tvs with twitch as an app?
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
it's hooked up to an old computer of mine smart tv apps are pure ass
S C
ah yeah my dad's laptop, the one I hooked up with linux, is probably gonna fill a similar role, though I dunno how viable it is It can't do youtube without seeming like it's about to die despite being basically unable to actually run the video the audio plays fine, but it can't keep up and actualy render the video lmao
basically, it just barely runs a REAL pared down linux distro and it does run fine, overall, it's just that basically nothing past the initial stages of web2.0 is made for a computer with a total of 2gb shared between OS and browser
that and it doesn't do reboots I mean, until you try to reboot, everything's gucci, but the strain on bootup kicks the temperature up to an extent that, combined with the baseline temperature of having just shut down, it's too hot and the CPU protection kicks in
S C
or, at least that's the conclusion I reached while helping him with the whole install process and whatnot I'm not formally educated or anything, and since this is prior to even being able to enter bios, not that the BIOS is new enough to have a temperature gauge you can see easily, it's basically impossible to figure out exactly what's going on Just based on it being consistent whenever you reboot it, rather than shut down and let it rest before booting again, I gotta assume it's a temperature issue
we had to sit it up on some books so it was elevated just to get anything done, cause laptop design is straight ass, putting the air intake below a type of computer which literal name indicates it is most often used resting on your lap
That ogre is stupid, at least we can comprehend deeper. Leaving crying aint the way, so now thing can be better!
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
>>1147730 did you get all the dust out? but ya old computers with chips that run hot.. .woof
Anno
air flow is key, cooler temps for good processing
S C
>>1147734 we didn't open the case up, no I suggested it, but the amount of work it would be and the amount of screws to keep track of made us (my dad primarily granted) decide against it, unless we had to, which we didn't It boots up fine if you let it rest and cool down for a bit, and once it's running, it runs fine (albeit excruciatingly slow)
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
oh no man that thing's probably caked in dust ICANT
oh yeah, I would imagine it is But I don't wanna accidentally fuck up my dad's laptop without his approval it's just that, since we got it running without opening it up, we left it at that I don't know the extent to which it's even gonna see any use, considering the hardware, but I did at least push in some basic software for him to use and left links on the desktop (my dad's a genuine desktop icon user) for him Just very basic stuff, like firefox (which came with the OS tbf but still) a text editor, VLC, a few other things like that. Just stuff that's nice to have easy access to when you aren't yet familiar with the names of all the software He's coming from a life of windows, after all, I can't expect him to know mousepad is notepad but debian Or, for that matter, what debian is
So I told him the distro of the OS and that he should include that or 'ubuntu' when googling for tech support, though he can always call me if he can't figure it out. Chances are I've encountered something similar, or will at least be more proficient in finding solutions online for linux issues.
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
what a farce man you gotta do it right it's just dusting a computer you just need a good screwdriver and a lil bowl to put screws in so they don't roll away and some compressed air or a blower of some kind
S C
I haven't opened up a laptop before, is all It's his laptop, obviously I'll leave the decision to him after letting him know I'm not 100% certain I can do it without any issues, even if I think it should be fine
I'd be fucking fuming if someone opened up my desktop box and started fucking around in there, even if after the fact the thing ran way way better, if they didn't ask me, or worse, asked and then ignored me saying no
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
this is dumb dude i don't got time for this nonsense
S C
it's dumb when you know your way around laptops, but I've literally never done maintenance of any kind on a laptop in my life I don't actually know how easy it is to mess something up, nevermind it's old as dirt so it might be put together in some fucked up way
We did unscrew a few panels just to check, but we didn't really find anything meaningful, other than the storage, so he could swap that out in the future if he wants I doubt he will, it's got a surprising amount of storage for its age, and it's not like he's gonna be storing the IOSYS discography on the damn thing
S C
if it was my own laptop, I'd be in there for sure But you gotta have a different mindset when it's someone else's laptop If you're not certain, you gotta say so and leave the decision to them, cause it's their laptop
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
sorry ixaint readin all that im grumpy as hell and im gonna get food
Kirara "Ikkyū" 🍄 /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
laptops are pretty much the same as any other computer, there's just more to unscrew
S C
I mean yeah, in a way but unscrewing the outer panel of a desktop computer is, first of all, literally one panel and at most 4 screws, and there's also an enormous amount of volume, so you can easily manipulate the guts with minimal risk of accidentally fucking something up
I mean I've built several computers in my day, and I still get a little nervous plugging in the ram even though I know it calls for a little bit of extra force, I can't be fucking around with a laptop where everything's packed tight as fuck, when I haven't ever done so, and it's not even my laptop
S C
though, I doubt he'd be that mad about it if I did fuck something up in the process, it's old as shit and practically useless, but I'm not gonna do anything without his approval
Anno
>>1147745 ya but in all fairness they are way easier to work on, -no fitment issues -not cumbersome -can put back togther and it will post, as aposed to hooking something up worng and having to go back and dismantal would encourage to just being careful if you do though...
S C
I just care a lot about my computer, is all and so, personally, I'd basically be raging if someone fucked up the hardware without asking me about messing with it first, so I don't wanna do that to someone else
Though, my attachment to my computer is probably not that common
Anno
oh ya if it's not yours, def can understand that
S C
Even if I was certain I can do it without issue, I'd still ask to get approval And if the answer's no, I'm not pressing much, though I might reiterate I know what I'm doing once or twice
You gotta accept what the person who actually owns the thing decides, and if you can't get it done while following their preferences, you let them know, and they decide how to proceed

>>1147753 putting a good brand of thermo paste on a laptop cpu that the heat seperator can really be a good mod
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
okay depending on the laptop actually changing out the paste is turning this from an easy task to potentially catastrophic task
Anno
I mean while you are in there and it may be a decade till the next time you ever get into it can be a great thing, sometimes while the dust is removed you can even hear a diference like it was from the factory out the box
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
thats like being in the middle of a nose job surgery and saying "hey we might as well do a lung transplant while we're in here"
Anno
not really if lung's are fine and or the cpu need and can have thermo added then it wouldn't be biut that is sort of funny I guess mods are mods and proformance gains are a good thang!
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
thing is depending on thr laptop to get at the cpu you sometimes have to rip out a board layer whereas the fan impeller is usually at the corner once you take off the back cover
Anno
ya like just removing some dust can help if thats the case
Anno
Know your not saying this but I don't think there are many laptops that you can remove the cpu of the board they are usually integrated
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
yaya
man onigiri is always so tempting and its tasty but you only get the tiniest speck of filling
I mean I guess I'll mention it next time I visit, be like "btw, you wanna clean out the dust and gunk from that laptop" or whatever But please do understand the reason I was there was to put a lightweight linux OS on it so it doesn't have to load like, windows XP (or maybe it was fucking vista, I can't remember tbh, I doubt it was vista with 2gb ram though) just to function My goal at the time wasn't to get the thing into great shape, it was to make it load into the OS and open a browser in less than 30 minutes
which, for the record, was not a task it was accomplishing with windows windows is crazy bloated, not to mention the age of it on its own has likely caused some of the hardware to deteriorate to some degree, and then there's all the pre-installed autorun bullshit on top of all that
Like I know I can come across as a bit of an evangelist, but there's genuinely no reason for a personal computer to run windows anymore. Work PC, sure, that's at least understandable, with how standardized stuff is and how reverse compatibility to the point of deliberately keeping bugs in various software because the end users outright ended up using them with purpose, I can't be too anal about corporations and states going with windows, not to mention how user friendly it is for like, someone who's never used a computer in their life or only uses it to watch youtube and post on twitter or whatever
But your own personal computer in your house that you use for leisure activities only? Literally no reason other than laziness and inertia to run windows at this point Even gaming is, usually, outright better on linux now, with the combination of Proton on steam and linux-native being actually prioritized to an increasing degree
X4, of all things, runs natively on linux. That game's OLD, like REALLY OLD, and the devs still went "fuck it, we'll push a big update that includes a linux-native executable" and they're not alone, though it's unlikely many others are linux-ing already released video games
Just the combined effort of the OS itself being less aggressive on resources and the occasional native release makes it unreasonable to run windows if you're a 'Gamer' IMO
granted, dx11 is fucked no can do on that front, and "that's microsoft's fault!" doesn't actually matter at all cause as the person trying to launch your new game, what matters is whether it launches and runs at an acceptable framerate, not the particulars of why it's failing to do either of the two
And it's not like I'm one of those "just dualboot lmao" people Dualbooting is a pain in the fucking ass What, rebooting my computer just to play one particular game in my library? Managing two separate installs of all the peripheral stuff like browser, music players, and whatever else? Fuck that, you're insane
Though quite a few games still do leave dx11 as an optional thing, so you can force it to run on dx10, which vulkan or whatever the fuck talks to just fine FFXIV has that option, though you do gotta google around and find the launch command or whatever to put into steam for it, it's not just an option in the settings, stupidly enough
I really do think linux is gonna start gaining a lot of ground with all this bullshit AI shit every tech company on the planet is infatuated with, though. Why the fuck would I want the computer to constantly monitor literally everything I do just so I have a negligably easier time operating the start menu, you know?
Anno
not too mention the lag it generates slowing other tasks and making life take longer OS evangelism lol somehow other OS's are doing other things that make life easier why not switch
well I mean some people can be real annoying with their linux glazing I try not to be, but it's not like I just assume I don't come off that way stuff like replying to random windows tech support question with "install linux lmao" basically That's just fucking cringe, changing your OS is a big commitment, it's not something you do because one thing isn't acting the way you want nor is it good advice overall though relatively uncommon at this point, there is software out there without a linux equivalent, and fewer still with a linux equivalent for each distro, so for some software "intall linux" literally won't solve the issue cause you can't get a replacement program that does the stuff you're trying to do, and fix, in the first place
For consumer stuff, like the stuff you do on your leisure time, there's vanishingly few such cases, and most of the ones that do exist work alright if not perfectly through wine, sure
But for professional "I am doing stuff due to being employed" stuff, linux overall hasn't quite caught up, both because it requires compatibility with proprietary and often obfuscated files and whatnot, and because well... the people using linux are generally speaking IT people and hobbyists using it on their home computer, dual booting if there's something in particular that simply doesn't have an alterantive but needs to be done
For better or worse, almost entirely worse, windows is the default for everything that isn't IT or 'creative' stuff, and Mac, at least my impression, is where the 'creatives' go. I dunno if that's still the case, but that was the vibe when I was in my teens at least, granted that's like, a decade and a half ago at this point

even with IT stuff, you probably end up having to just accept you're on windows because the work computers you're interfacing with are running it, too The server itself and the administration of it can be linux, but you gotta deal with all the computers used by the people actually doing the work in the organization, and those are just about always running windows just cause it's the easiest for compatibility purposes and also because the CEO usually isn't a fucking nerd. Or, at least, not a nerd (complimentary) they might be a nerd (derogatory), but they're rarely a nerd (complimentary)
>>1147773 Yeah, there's an absurd amount of it, and really my primary issue with it is they can be annoying and go a bit overboard I agree with it just about all the time when I see it in the wild, but I'm annoyed by the zealotry, more than anything
Linux is great, I would recommend it to anyone for their home computer, doesn't matter what distro (though ubunutu or a derivative is probably the best bet unless you're a geek) but I don't bother people about it mostof the time
Anno
I guess there tons of linux glazing OS peachers in the wild
>>1147772 you can actually do a lot of interoperation between GNU/Linux and Windows stuff on a network Samba allows you do to sctive directory on GNU/Linux machines
True, I just kinda figure it's easier to deal with on a windows machine I don't know though, so I could be way off, though I do know dutchfriend (works IT for a school in netherlands) is running windows at work
might be less the actual interfacing in and of itself, and more the niche software for what they're doing not having an equivalent on linux, combined with the lack of real reason to use linux instead, for all I know

I was actually kind of cut about this at the time, but enough time has passed and it's actually very funny so I'll tell you guys; the girl I was kind of seeing, right, I posted this image and a few others like the Nep one with cute anime girls wearing the autism hat in our message history when texting discord and stuff and I'd just use it like I use it here, when I'm being a bit socially retarded or awkward or obsessively nerdy. but she took me posting those literally so like 2 months into our relationship and she thought I had legitimate, proper diagnosed autism and was actually sitting on the spectrum.
I'm still on for a month or two more of working at the "job training" place Which is fine, I really don't mind the work, but despite how, you know, 'woke' I am, and how I try to suppress it, it's difficult to entirely push out the feeling of, I dunno, humiliation that comes with being stuck, albeit temporarily, in a place that's, for lack of a better term, where society keeps the inept There's very, very few people there who pass for 'normal' in any real way. And like, it's fine, who cares if someone's got down's or their mental's a bit scuffed, but knowing I find myself in the same situation isn't good for the self-image, man

At least I don't have many complaints on a sort of interpersonal level though, I don't interact much with anyone there beyond being in the same room, cause I just listen to my audiobook and do my work There's one lady who's real annoying cause she's the kind who's looking for a reason to fight from the moment she arrives until she leaves, and there's a few others who just act in a way that's annoying to look at, but that's about it
If I stick out this job that I had for a another 1.3 years I get 6 weeks of long service leave. Worth?

thats part of why i left my job and am gonna travel
An elderly man around 80yo just confessed his love to me. He told me he can never forget me and he's happy just to be around me. And it's been a long time since he felt happy to be around "someone special".
I heard that this particular old guy was married to a guy in his late 20s or early 30s who divorced him and took a ton of money. Like six years ago.
I've only met him twice though!
