I didn't plan on getting up at 2:am to watch the European League of Legends championship grand final but I woke up after falling asleep at about 6pm. Good thing I don't have work tomorrow
The sequel to my post about being awake at 2am to watch the EU LoL finals; Waking up after having batshit crazy dreams in the middle of the afternoon. Also i ate a gigantic pot of pasta right before i fell alseep i don't think that helped. I couldn' t even begin to tell you what the dream was about but it was some crazy sci fi shit involving laser guns, underground cities and my yoga instructor
Mahou Shoujo Marsh-chan
about the League thing, I didn't wake up at 2am on purpose to watch the finals. I'm not that much of a diehard fan. But I woke up in the middle of the night and knew I had the next day off work so I watched them.
The finals themselves were entertaining enough, but the team who was the favourite and won like the last 5 playoff seasons won again, so it wasn't too much of a crazy upset.

it was pretty bold to try to launch yet another hero shooter like, the same time valve is launching theirs, which in and of itself was ALSO a bold decision
Anno
Valve is actually good at sensing niches for new creative ideas in the gaming culture though, and come up with unique ideas Rather than putting out a focus group tested idea eight years later
S C
yeah I mean that's their rep I dunno if they did here though, but that's cause I don't play these games at all, I just haven't heard anyone really talk about whatever it was called again
them making one of these things at all is surprising
Anno
Well Deadlock is still in closed beta, invite only, it's not really released per se I imagine once it's properly available they'll start marketing it more, yeah
DotA 2 was the same way
S C
Oh, I thought they like, released it No wonder there's not much buzz then, if it's still closed beta
To some degree I'm disappointed Valve finally does something again and it's one of these fucking things though, but that's again just cause I don't play these games
Anno
Well it's interesting because it also has MOBA mechanics, like laning and economy, although I'm not too clear on the details I got an invite last week but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet
Anno
From what I've seen in rumours and content leaks though, it seems like Valve has another one or two game projects under lock and key, assuming they haven't been shelved yet, which are more narrative based single-player games The important thing to remember about Valve is, since they're a private company, they don't have to kowtow to investors and publicly present what they're working on toain -to maintain stock value So they can literally work on their stuff in secret until it's ready to release/promote
S C
hopefully they make something I'm interested in again overall valve has been good at making some of the better titles in whatever genre they do, so I imagine I'd have fun with it if it's something I even want to play

no way Neo had student loans it's the height of human civilization!
S C
though I guess there's something a bit fitting about humanity's peak, in the machines' pov, being a world where some dead end office rat in his... 30s? still paying off student loans
I actually kinda wonder why the machines went with that world for the simulation I mean surely it'd be less of a hassle if they just went with a world where nobody like, has to do work they don't enjoy at all For one people would be a lot less likely to be bummed out and looking for "the truth" And arguably more importantly, they'd be a lot less likely to want to leave even after they find out the truth
Like if you told me in my situation that this is all a simulation, I'd be tempted to leave the matrix But if my life was overall pretty damn good, all my needs being met without any significant sources of stress, I dunno man. I think i'd just go "Yeah OK. Even so, this shit seems a lot more comfortable than whatever you're up to out there"
Of course I know it's all supposedly allegorical and not literal, but still
If Neo had a degree, it's gotta have been computer science, no? Not just like "he's good at computer, he became good at computer in school" but more just that being his obvious big interest so it figures he'd study that in school
and then he ends up just doing grunt work in a cubicle when he's probably qualified to run the IT department

I guess an internet ran like perfect dark could be an option, though it would still be relatively slow if you want to protect your identity, and a bit of a pain to update I2P exists though, and that's relatively fast Don't actually know how secure it is though, in terms of identity leakage
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
just use something onion-like for getting the hash of the data then download the actual data securely from a friend somethin like that
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
perfect dark? the rare game?
S C
no it's a file sharing thing basic gist of it is when you install it, you add a bunch of hashes to your network, basically central nodes that help you connect to everyone else, and once it's done getting stuff set up, you more or less just download and store like, 50GB or something, adjustable, of the content across the network, at random And then you can search for and download files, and it's not really possible for anyone to tell if you're deliberately getting a particular file, or if the data just is part of that storage you need to hold to use the network
I'm sure there's some more stuff going on under the hood, but that's like, the big picture
S C

To begin with, it's not like you get a squashed person and then their children are also going to be squashed people; that's not how evolution works If we lived on a planet with gravity so intense that only dense human beings could endure it, then yeah, over the course of hundreds of generations you'd weed out the genetic variables which produce non-dense humans But as long as the environment is not killing a sufficient amount of the species, or there is not a specific trait which puts that trait heads and tails above others for food and mating domination, you're not going to produce a narrower trait variety
S C
literally all you're arguing is it's not the singular factor involved which, yes, true obviously
well I mean I wasn't talking about evolutionary results when I posted >>1130675 in the first place, but also the extent to which evolution favors more squat frames under increased gravity is completely unknown, we have exactly 1 piece of data to work with

werent megafauna possible because of like hella oxygen percentage or nitrogen or something
S C
yeah the big boys back then were oxygenmaxxing one fun thing is when people speculate we'd have massive bugs if we cranked our oxygen again, but that's not really gonna happen cause anything with an exoskeleton has essentially painted themselves into a corner, evolutionary speaking They just can't get much bigger than they are, the changes needed would be so radical it's just not really gonna happen
Anno
Well we can't know for sure Extremely higher oxygen in the atmosphere percentages is a strong theory, since I think we can prove that the air composition back then did have much higher oxygen ratios than nowadays But until we can recreate it and show a concrete link between the kind of megafauna and megaflora from those ancient eras, all we can say is there seems like a correlative link
It seems like a very solid theory, and I wouldn't disagree with anyone who's abscribed to it, but it's not a certainty

just carve some speed holes in your exo skeleton

Swiss Cheese Spider
S C
I'm pretty sure most spiders can't cope with a puncture wound much at al
Those mfers are hydraulic like I think you basically just kill their ass by poking a hole
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
oh damn bro needs a nylon liner to keep the h'luids in
Anno
Maybe on the core of their body Plenty of spiders run around with whole legs ripped off
S C
oh yeah, I guess the hydraulics are per-leg, so maybe a hole in their torso wouldn't necessarily kill them
Anno
Well there's not many creatures out there which can survive long with a hole in their torso Even we humans kind of need medical attention at that point
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
im built different
S C
>>1130692 depends on the size of the hole I just meant, under the assumption their torso itself was just part of this global hydraulics system, it wouldn't matter if they could technically survive the hole itself, like the damage... they wold have none pressure. They'd be at absolute best just waiting to starve out

be a centaur one heart in the chest, one in the horse
S C
fun fact: roughly one in every 10 thousand centaurs are born reversed, with the lower half of a man and the upper half of a horse. They rarely make it to childhood, and never to adulthood
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
bojack nooo
S C
oh no, it's just like a centaur but reversed wher the head of a regular human would usually start, the horse part starts from about waistlevel the human part just isn't built to handle that sort of positioning, the spine isn't built for it
Samu /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\
that does sound pretty unwieldly
S C
they do get to have some sick, effectively completely worthless and unusable arms dangling down from their midsection though They're not long enough to ever actually SEE, so they can't really manipulate anything with them, but they do get them technically
when does fauna evolve into megafauna non srs answers only

i reported it at least it took a minute, because the captchas where you select all parts of an image with <thing> are not clear on what the FUCK that means like one of the squares has roughly 15 pixels of the thing. Does that count?
aircraft & automobile manufacturers publish concept 3d renders of their products without actually providing products. @ me publishes 3d concept renders of cool software, that I made in my imagination, and that you may want, without actually making the software. @ next stage: go to convention fair, advertise there 3d concepts, or 2d pictures of software, generate hype & frustration, to never publish it in future. So wandering people will search web 5 years later "Is it developed and published yet?", just to find that my startup got acquired by FAANG for gazillion on yuan, and concept product was never served end customer.
nice, isn't it, right?
Anno
on the bright side, I've seen few companies publishes their products as open-source, just before the aquisition, so even after support discontinued, it could be in theory maintained by floss community.

Mahou Shoujo Marsh-chan
I'm rewatching Sport Climbing girls.
Mahou Shoujo Marsh-chan
Banger of a show.
Mahou Shoujo Marsh-chan
And here's an instance of life imitating art - and also something that's fresh on my mind because it happened earlier this evening. In the very first episode of Sport Climbing girls, the protagonist Konomi has never tried climbing before, but she sees a wall at the school and decides to give it ago. She see's a girl in the same year as her, Jun-chan already climbing. Now although Jun is originally impressed with Konomi's ability to quickly solve the wall, she get's fucking PISSED when Konomi compares it to the puzzle solving video games she used to play. Jun has been climbing her whole life. She has dedicated herself to it completely. It's something she takes incredibly seriously. For Konomi to compare it to a game you play for fun, in Jun's eyes, belittles and trivializes the pursuit of climbing. Now of course, eventually Konomi wins Jun back over when she shows her how seriously she's training, and how much she's dedicating herself to the sport. Jun's still a bit of a hardass, but the two become close friends.
Now, earlier this evening, some friends of mine that I've known for years and years and years since High School decided to show up at my Yoga studio. And while I wasn't angry or insulted in the same way Jun was at Konomi, there was a sense of " hey this place means a lot to me, and it's really important, and people come here to work hard. Don't show up just to fuck around".
They're not very good they had some nougat sauce thing which helped a lot, but really it was just the nougat that tasted good at all so it really wasn't worth it
now I know though, nice to try some new stuff got some chili cheese pops or whatever too, so it wasn't a complete loss, those always go crazy
whenever parents say stuff to their kids in public half the time it's "you're too close to the road get away" maybe parenting wouldnt be so stressful if we didnt have giant danger zones everywhere
