I didn't have a name for this guy early in the game but I used him for a thing when you and Floop were absent so I just randomly called him Strikes-the-Blood because it was the name of an anime and sounded like it could be an Indian name.
I didn't even make the connection between his name and vampires until you pointed it out.

Kind of a funny coincidence.

Because actively dabbling with this stuff goes a bit against Felicity's character.
It's not particularly an issue of insanity or otherwise; she's just very hesitant to engage in this sort of thing.

I doubt any of them are particularly appealing, though!

In an isolated choice situation, Felicity would have probably just opted to burn the book or destroy it elsewise.
But that flies in the face of pretty much every other interest in the actual matters at hand.

She does want to eliminate the threat of this creature, but she has no interest in the supernatural.

and of course you guys can discuss it OOC to figure out what your characters will do

What kind of answer are you looking for?
Lore? Mechanics?

Mechanics, mostly.

Basically, there's a spell, and you want to cast it, you use an incantation which is just a stability test.
You don't lose stability if you fail the test, but you can spend stability to bolster the roll to ensure successful cast of the spell.
Sometimes you lose stability, but it depends om the spell, and none of the spells I'd be giving you would cause you to lose sanity on a failure.

If your sanity is really low, you can cast without an incantation, too.
Some spells require health to cast too.
That's about the gist of it.

I guess there would be no actual obligation to use the spells once learned.

You could even deny that spells are real despite learning them.

i said sanity here instead of stability but given the context of everything i said prior i feel it's obvious that it meant stability

Is it a waste of time?

Not really.
Considering Felicity missed three shots during the rails shooter part of last week's session and we still got through the whole affair with minimal damage.
There's enough of us that if one screws a roll there's usually back-up.
It's how we've lasted this long despite Tony's rolls.

Knowing you, you'll also throw all your remaining Stability points into your magic just for the sake of spending them.

The biggest challenge so far has been keeping stability.

I think I'll be fine tagging along with the quest to learn magic, but don't expect Felicity to actually use it.
So if that's an issue with completely the chain of events, then yeah, something will have to get worked out.
