Some things of note Nothing here that Bang's interested in watching I don't think And if you want to skip Orient and just do four shows tonight I'm not opposed to the idea
i love lappland
okeydokey see you guys on sunday!
Anno
Toodles
Yuu
wow such a short list I actually hate orient i guess i'll give it one more ep to see if i still hate it
Anno
The other option is pull up something from last season left unfinished, but, eh
Yuu
we can do these 5 one sec downloading
let's start with orient okay lets start
Anno
Yup yup
Anno
The monster design for this series is pretty silly
>>1017117 Episode three It's that series with the four guys and the weird doctor-priest who can revive dead people
Yuu
Is it ep 1 of Saiyuuki Reload we're on?
Anno
Okay well that's more of a monster Still a bit goofy but it's more appropriate
Anno
He was just complaining about swords not being all that great and now he's clinging on to it like it's more valuable than his life
Yuu
It's better than nothing
Anno
And for all his trouble as soon as the Kishin used two hands he lost it in a second
Anno
He's in considerably good condition for diving into what ought to have been stomach acid
Yuu
breaking a hole in the sky is pretty cool
Anno
I'm just a little confused to the perspectives involved It looked like they were lower than the clouds but then they broke a hole in the sky Plus they shot out of that giant castle/landship thing
Yuu
The clouds are fake too
Anno
Yeah, I guess It's still pretty weird to me
These Kishin creatures are pretty Eldritch They start off looking silly and then get crazy real fast
Anno
The lesser creatures also scale a fair bit in monstrousity too
Anno
A lot of blue hair in this squad
Yuu
okay
cue okay lets start
Anno
Reaaaady
Yuu
hen after that
saikyuuki arifuturetata futasu boys
Anno
This is a very excessive way to play ... volleyball? Dodgeball?
Anno
It looks like the large-ish cast gets divvied up into smaller friend groups
Anno
Having to read manga as a part of your job of getting into character sounds pretty fun
I wonder how involved mangaka can be with stuff like voice casting for series they make I know with western authors, it's pretty rare they actually have a say with casting for movies of their works Maybe they sit in on the casting, but I do have a hard time believing they actually help pick the voices.
Yuu
What was that anime production show it was pretty popular
mangaka seem to have a presence but they are a bit at the mercy of production
Do you mean Shirobako? But I feel you'd have remembered that name Ah okay
Anno
This one reminds me more of some of the other seiyuu-SoL shows we've seen Like that one with the girl with the egg shirt that Bang likes posting Or that one about the trio of rookie seiyuu that had a bunch of cameos from real life well-known seiyuu
Yuu
i remember that show it was good
this reminds me a bit of idolmaster too
Anno
Yeah, especially with the huge cast from the get-go They really did just drop like a dozen characters on us
Yuu
very idolmaster thing to do
Anno
Well Idolmaster also had the advantage of being a pre-existing franchise Most people who watched the anime were at least familiar with all the characters It's a harder task to drop a whole dozen new characters on an audience
Anno
For a pretty waffly girl she does a pretty good haughty attitude for her character roles Oh I guess she's got a bit of a diverse pool of personalities she can pull from Her haughty one seemed to be the strongest though
Anno
The other thing is Idolmaster had two cours to establish their broad cast I'd be surprised if this was more than one cour
Yuu
There's been a lot of focus on the protagonist in this one despite the large cast similar but not similar to how idolmaster kinda follows producer-san
Anno
Having a clear main character or few at least is incredibly helpful for any kind of story, really There's a strong reason it's one of the most universally consistent aspects of narration in all storytelling cultures
Yuu
yeah i imagine she'll be producer-san
okay saikyuu okay lets start
Anno
Almost, Saiyuuki
Anno
There really is a kind of old-school tabletop group feel to a lot of these characters They're all their own identity and they've learned how to work with each other despite that
Anno
Wow he just starts pawing all over the guy
Yuu
the art is so sharp and rough
Anno
It's probably a legacy of the original run of the manga, back in the late 90s / early 00s Although the original mangaka could be involved with the designs still so it's just how their style has preserved
Anno
Apples are good I wish I was better at remembering to eat the stuff I buy that perishes fast like fruit
Anno
So is their gang all demons? They've been consistently called that, but they look more human than not I thought it was more a metaphorical demon than literal
Yuu
I'm a big fan of apples
Anno
I do drink a lot of apple juice, it's how I get my Vitamin C these days But it would be nice to chomp into a good apple
Anno
Trying to persuade a kid to give up their life is pretty dark This priest-doctor is a grim guy
Anno
But not without a heart at least
I guess with the exception of the blonde priest, they are demons And the priest-doctor and his puppet too
Oh the priest-doctor and the gang went their separate ways
Yuu
this is a pretty good ED
Anno
Yeah, there's some good visuals to it too
I'm overall pretty fond of this series I think it does worldbuilding and characterization in a neat way
Yuu
okay arifureta okay lets start
Anno
Haaaaiiii
Anno
I don't think old time stone city streets are going to be that great on modern truck tires Or maybe it would be the other way around
Hah hah wait He's aiming down the sights of his gun On the side of his face that's missing an eye Now I'll grant I know nothing about proper shooting form, but that feels a bit counterintuitive
Anno
With how he looks and usually acts, he strikes as more of a mid-twenties guy But he's actually like sixteen or seventeen
Anno
I like giant hammers as weapons Highly impractical and extremely unrealistic But I like the aesthetic
Yuu
dungeon time
Anno
Series started in a dungeon, left the dungeon, went into another dungeon, completed that dungeon I think this is the third at least
Anno
Oh it's more than just a mine, it is another one of the labyrinths that make up those previous dungeons
Anno
I don't know if I'd ever want to get in a boat cruising on a river of magma Even one that didn't go down lavafalls or other unstable river patterns
Yuu
reminds me of the fire area in kumo spider
Anno
Yeah, that came to mind too
Anno
Every time they've cleared one of these dungeons he's always gotten a hack power up I wonder what he's going to get this time
Yuu
oaky out our last one waaaas
futasu boys oaky lets start
Anno
Futasu could be a Japanese word But I think it's Futsal Which honestly sounds like less of a legitimate word than futasu Why on earth did futsal become another word for football / soccer
Yuu
this reminds me a bit of haikyuu so far
Anno
I never read or watched Haikyuu Sports series aren't something I go out of my way to consume There's very few I'd likely watch if I wasn't watching them with you
Anno
Wow, they didn't even get to finish their game with the delinquents They got scared off by these prissy prettyboys
Anno
Flesh Cup
Anno
Sakaki is still really in his somewhat unlikeable phase I'm sure he'll warm up once he remembers what it's like to love football again, but right now he's a hard sell
Anno
Their captain's normally a pretty nice guy but he does have a bit of a serious streak
Yuu
>>1017184 Oh I guess haikyuu was me and ika it was like 50 episodes and we watched all of it
Anno
There was a second season that came out, I think it was when Ika was starting to burn out or had dropped anime altogether I volunteered to pick the series up with it but I think we were overloaded with other stuff and never got around to it
Yuu
I feel like I watched the second season too? Can't remember. Is Ika still around here and there?
Anno
Pretty much no He seems to be polite enough to respond to me on Discord, at least when I messaged him if he wanted to watch the final Evangelion movie with us But we don't talk (as much my fault as anyone's) and I am almost completely certain he hasn't been around /moe/ at all in years
Anno
I'm assuming this stuff about piva -pivo and ala are some Italian terms They // Actually, might be Spanish Their captain did spend some time in Spain
Yuu
I email lobster-chan once or twice a year to see if she's still alive but I never get a response. In fact this conversation reminded me to send the 2022 email.
Anno
Hah hah hah It would be really nice if she's okay I 'm really bad at keeping in contact with people; idle conversation is hard for me to start and I don't really know how to just do casual pleasantries And then the time since I last talked to people grows with time and I get anxiety about trying to reach out with them It's much easier for me when I have a purpose, like scheduling for Evangelion
Basic social functions are not my forte
Yuu
Maybe I'll go looking for Ika yeah i'd like to know what's going on with lobster too
as for this show sports anime is always super interesting when games are being played and kinda boring when not can't wait for the first game
okay,thanks for anime
Anno
Good chance we'll get one next week I think
Thanks for anime! Have a nice weekend, Rika I'm usually always around if you want to say hello
