Btw if dany had ANY sense
she'd never return to the 7 kingdoms
just send envoys and establish diplomatic ties
and just set herself in the slaver's bay and rename them as Freedom Bay or soemthing

she'd have an entire new kingdom to rule, expand and pass on to descendants, well she is barren I think?, but to some other dynasty
Hell maybe even set up a republic of some sort
Anno
She has zero incentive to set up a republic, she was raised to believe she is a queen, her actions in the series lead others to treat her as a queen, everthing in her life reinforces her belief she is justified to be a queen.
And madness and obsession, conveniently, also run in the family.

Yeah but the point is, why go and be queen of seven kingdoms, when you could be queen of the old Valyrean Empire
and just conquer all the free holds and possessions of the Valyrean Freehold
>>719338
true but
first you'd set up a good basis of power
and then go sail over the sea
not sail over the sea
and then set up a basis of power
Anno
And why not be queen of all of it?
Anno
She also doesn't care about being queen of Essos.
I mean she'll take it if she gets it but she has a determination to recover the throne she full-heartedly believes is RIGHTFULLY hers.
That to her matters more than anything else.

The curiousity I have more than anything really is if the fate of Jaime is going to be the same at the end.
His character arc has seems to be that he is diverging from the mania that Cersei has fallen into
!C0.PerkELE

I think that too is a plot point, not the jamie vs whatever his face
but die with cersei
!C0.PerkELE
or rather
HE kills cersei
and then dies

btw do you think wheel of time has ever chance of making it to screen?
Anno
Amazon's been working on a serialization.
Production has begun or will begin shortly.

They're filming it this fall iirc

Image 1563507917559.jpg (177 KB, 1920x1080, Sakura (31).jpg)
But that has been Y/N for like
3 years
But I guess since Amazon said it is funding it, there hasn't been any "no" signals anymore
!C0.PerkELE
But it is just such a long series, that happens in what...
3 years?
they will have to shoot it with a thight schedule

it reminds me of just reading the series the first time
Anno
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosamund_Pike

This lady's set to play the ... lead? as Moiraine.

Yeah I think she fits the character well but I'm confused about the status as lead.
I guess as far as the first novel goes she is the guiding force but that's like saying Ian MacKellen was the lead for Fellowship of the Ring.
McKellen even.
!C0.PerkELE
>>719363
She looks the part
!C0.PerkELE
well
close enough

Like if I had to choose Moiraine I'd choose the actress who played Galadriel and Hela
!C0.PerkELE
Cate Blanchette
!C0.PerkELE

!C0.PerkELE

LotR leads are Hugo Mortenson and Elijah Wood
Anno
That's what I'm saying.
!C0.PerkELE
But hey is that primary source or just some news outlet stuff
you have to remember we live in current year of 2019
!C0.PerkELE
Moiraine is one of the main characters, but the main leads are actually
Rand, Matt, Perrin and Egwene
with seconady leads being
Nynaeve, Aviendha, Min, Elayne, ...
but anyhow, Moraine is a secondary lead, but she actually has like...
5?
chapters in the main series from her point of view
Anno
As far as the first book goes I think I can understand the argument for her being the lead.
!C0.PerkELE
Image 1563508376115.jpg (231 KB, 997x1080, Sakura (156).jpg)
>>719372
She is more of a plot-lead, than a character lead
but yeah, she is part of the main cast in terms of importance
but once again do check your source for "main lead"
!C0.PerkELE
But is Rosamunde Pike short enough?
!C0.PerkELE
Moiraine is short
like
5 foot
no
shorter
she is short for even a Cairhienan, who already are a short people
!C0.PerkELE
Damn
I just realised
the Deep Fake
the CGI Tarkin
we actually have reached the CGI technology, and cheap enough for a tv series
to get the AGELESS LOOK for AES SEDAI
no matter the age

Imagine the what was her face, woman who played M in Bond movies since Golden Eye
deaged as Cadsuane
or
Harry Potter MacGarnival
both would work so well
Anno
She's 1.74m tall.

>>719378
I'm about the same height as Kirara and I feel short often enough.
!C0.PerkELE
>>719377
that is almost as tall as I am
and matt is as tall as I am
well maybe a fwe cm higher
!C0.PerkELE
how much is 5,10?
!C0.PerkELE
5,10 is 177 and I am 176
so yeah
that is 10 inches too tall

I am already having bad feeling about this casting
Anno
Well it's not hard to play some trickery with height.
You don't even need CGI for it.
Just some clever camera angles and occasional propping up.

The serialization has a Twitter account and Rosamund was the first actress/actor to be announced.
So maybe there is an assumption that she's the lead because she is the first announced.
Or maybe it's industry standard to announce your lead actress/actor first. I don't know.

How much do the normies know about Wheel of Time, when you think about it
it is a big fantasy series, but it isnt that big
Anno
It has pretty decent name penetration, at least amongst people who read books (like books in general; far more so when considering those that read fantasy).
For those that don't read a lot it's not that well-known.
But in fairness neither was ASIAF before the HBO series.
Neither come remotely close to the name penetration of Lord of the Rings even before the movie trilogy.
!C0.PerkELE
Image 1563508987588.jpg (105 KB, 1920x1080, Sakura (361).jpg)
it was very well known in wc3 days
while game of thrones had 0 maps made
so there is that
but then again, I think myself DID play a part in that popularity in Northrend
!C0.PerkELE
>>719396
or Potter before the movies
Anno
I'm discounting Harry Potter for the same reason I'm discounting The Golden Compass.
It's more "normal" for kids to read than adults working full-time, and even if the adults don't read them, they're gonna know about them if their kids are reading them, probably.
Both those series are also a bit less of a niche genre fiction series like Lord of the Rings or Wheel of Time too.
!C0.PerkELE
Image 1563509138070.jpg (174 KB, 471x750, Sakura (414).jpg)
That is true
LotR, ASoIaF and WoT are all adult fantasies
!C0.PerkELE
Image 1563509183780.jpg (161 KB, 1920x1080, Sakura (426).jpg)
You know the most amusing thing about my different age read throughs of the WoT series are
I grew to actually like Nynaeve more
Elayne is still kinda annoying
but when I first read the series, I found N, El and such chapters such a DROLL
to get through
But this most recent read through I have found, especially Nynaeve mch more relatable character

I think there is a thing of mental maturity there, but also being older and having more time spent among women to appreciate it
[email protected]
>>719398
Potter was pretty famous before the movies
Anno
Jordan's wife and editor is also onboard as a consulting producer.
If they're sensible they'll listen a lot of her, there's absolutely no one alive today that will know the characters and world as intimately as she does.
Even Sanderson is probably not as close to the heart than she is.
!C0.PerkELE
Image 1563509318617.jpg (277 KB, 689x693, Sakura (440).jpg)
I hope Sanderson will also be there
he had a damn good grasp of the story
!C0.PerkELE
and is a damn good fantasy writer of his own
!C0.PerkELE
Image 1563509381696.jpg (105 KB, 1920x1080, Sakura (493).jpg)
>>719403
Not to mention
the prebased fanbase, that is the main audience
HAS READ THE STORY
they can't that much stray away from it
peter jackson is the most they can do away with, and he only streamlined and made it more direct, but kept the same spirit
Anno
>>719404
Not to downplay Sanderson's skills because I love the other works he's done on top of Wheel of Time but I'm pretty sure Jordan left some insanely detailed notes about the remainder of the series he left unwritten.
Like all that was left was to just convert it to actual novelized text.
!C0.PerkELE
Image 1563509453273.jpg (108 KB, 1920x1080, Sakura (513).jpg)
>>719407
The Mordred-Rand thing at the end
that was in my opinion quite poorly done
and I think you can quite clearly notice where Sanderson's writing ends and where the final chapter that Jordan had written starts
Anno
>>719404
>>>/@rafejudkins/1093961765468004352
This is one of the writer leads talking about Sanderson swining by the writing room for the series, so he's at least being called in and talked to.

Though his own series, The Stormlight Archives, has been optioned for an adaptation as well so if that's still going forward I imagine most of his time allocated to contributing to adaptations is probably focused on that.

Honestly I'd rather they just do a one-off movie of Elantris or a series on Mistborn since those at least all have concluded stories.

Image 1563509616780.jpg (272 KB, 647x744, Sakura (574).jpg)
I felt a weird kinship with Ishamale/moridin after reading the "world of wheel of time" book
how he basically philosophisised/theologisised himself into turning against the light

it was very much something I would see myself doing
a pessimistic world view that was very hard to deny, but inevitably wrong

> The object under discussion is β€œCanyon,” a masterwork of 20th-century art created by Robert Rauschenberg that Mrs. Sonnabend’s children inherited when she died in 2007.
> Because the work, a sculptural combine, includes a stuffed bald eagle, a bird under federal protection, the heirs would be committing a felony if they ever tried to sell it. So their appraisers have valued the work at zero.
> But the Internal Revenue Service takes a different view. It has appraised β€œCanyon” at $65 million and is demanding that the owners pay $29.2 million in taxes.
