this is a really ignorant comment
our proto-human ancestors had brains and bodies built perfectly for being able to master this delicate art in a way far beyond the measly aspirations of the modern human
they were already better at it two million years ago than we are now
we just don't have the records to show it
Kirara 🚗
>>533548
they stole that art from the gods
it cannot be for mortal eyes

Why aren't our teeth made out of the same thing our nails are?
To what end do they not just grow back?

Imagine the possibilities
Teeth no longer sharp?
Just stick a knife in there and shave off a part and BOOM, sharp teeth once more

most teeth aren't supposed to be sharp
sk
Image 1531089183812.jpg (873 KB, 1658x1622, __astolfo_fate_apocrypha_and_f(…).jpg)
But some could certainly benefit from some periodic maintenance
Like your canines
Kirara 🚗
you can sharpen them if you want to, and they keep sharp
sk
>>533568
But not indefinitely, they don't regrow
Kirara 🚗
yeah, but they're bone, so they remain sharp unless you are grinding them down on something
Anno
>>533567
What benefit.
sk
Chewing?
Perhaps even as a weapon
Anno
You don't chew with your canines, you chew with your molars, which employ the flatter tops of the teeth to grind things down.
Which is more efficient than repeatedly stabbing sharp points into a thing when it comes to breaking the thing down.

As far as weapons go, the human face is fairly ineffectual when it comes to biting as a weapon. We don't have the snout or elongated faces of other creatures that are much safer to bit with.
sk
Image 1531089343248.jpg (129 KB, 1346x1365, DfBEy6yU0AASy8a-orig.jpg)
Humans are fucking trash at combat, goddamn
Kirara 🚗
that's because we generally use weapons to hunt and our ancestors mostly ate small monkeys, rats, and plants
Anno
Yeah, we didn't evolve dextrous upper bodies just to go back to biting things.
sk
You're forcing me to imagine primal man beating a monkey to death with his bare fists, and I'm for it
Kirara 🚗
no, they'd be like rat-sized monkeys
you can see the same behavior in apes today
sk
Oh, tiny monkeys
sk
Image 1531089451800.jpg (23 KB, 512x256, C34oExfUEAAe1Cb-orig.jpg)
Is there a known reason why we like, bite our cheeks and stuff on purpose like, as a tic?
tick?
I'm not sure which is right
Kirara 🚗
because we're imperfect and our bodies allow for it, which means the behavior can be reinforced and maintained
Anno
Tic
Anno
I think biting cheeks can also tickle the same feelings that typical oral fixations do too.

It's for defense not offense.

Like what, people getting into deadly-level fistfights before the age of like 26 was common enough to have a real evolutionary effect?
I think that's farfetched
Kirara 🚗
people dying before age 50 for most of human history has had clear evolutionary effects so idk why it seems far-fetched

Because that's an enormous amount of self-destruction as a group
Kirara 🚗
>>533594
>>533596
you do know that every human being is descended from a group of roughly 50k people right
from not very long ago
sk
Like you need a lot of people to die because their skull was trash before this can actually impact evolution
[email protected]
>>533594
What group do you think we're talking about right now?
Can you name a better group at self destruction than humans?
sk
Image 1531090146055.jpg (367 KB, 1860x2325, DJxqwiKVoAEuTIS.jpg)
>>533595
I guess but I dunno how big a factor anyone's skull def stat was for any of that
Kirara 🚗
>>533598
consider that one group of humans evolved a certain way and then all other groups of humans died
every other new group would have the characteristics of the surviving group
sk
Image 1531090227851.jpg (54 KB, 720x712, DfBWXzPWsAQetfq.jpg)
So like, this hyper-combatitive group ended up turning the aggression outwards after having busted enough of their own skulls?
I mean I can see it, but it still seems strange

Anyways at the very least skim this article.

Kirara 🚗
>>533600
huh
no???
there was a mass extinction event 70k years ago and only a few humans survived
we are descendents of those survivors
sk
I'll skim the article at least

sk
Image 1531090529072.jpg (11 KB, 158x225, DenSi4DUEAE9u0n-orig.jpg)
Yeah
I didn't know we had like, a huge mass extinction thing happen to 'us'
I thought we were there for like, the ice age, but mostly did fine
If a bit cold and you know, high death rates probably
Kirara 🚗
well it was a massive supervolcano eruption 70k years ago that caused the earth to cool for like 1000 years and we're all descended from like 10k survivors or fewer
there was a population bottleneck which affects the rate of evolution and adaptation considerably
[email protected]
SK
You should read on the origin of species.
sk
Image 1531090659134.jpg (254 KB, 1200x1076, DeeRk1_X0AAFvPm.jpg)
I'm not sure that'd be very interesting
I only really have a passing interest in this kinda stuff
Kirara 🚗
reading on the origin of species is pretty essential for anarchism imo
it and mutual aid are probably the best arguments for anarchism from a material and evolutionary standpoint
sk

But there's already Kropotkin, right?
He's got some books about this too
Talesof !NuKeSlvmWE
"Nothing helps babies go to sleep like jock jams"
Kirara 🚗
>>533612
he wrote mutual aid, yes
it was written in 1912 or published rather
which is only like 40 years after on the origin of species and like 20 years after the conception of social darwinism
[email protected]
My favorite part in the book is where he throws the iguanas off of the cliff and into the ocean.
Kirara 🚗
>>533615
i like how offended he was by iguanas
[email protected]
>>533616
Well it really was for science
Cause the iguanas were afraid of him, but when he cornered them at the shore they'd refuse to go into the water, if he threw one in it would swim back to the shore and still be cornered
So they could swim (and do) but were afraid of the ocean (even though its where they get their food)
I think it had something to do with them being more afraid of sharks than humans
sk
Image 1531090900451.jpg (80 KB, 1000x1000, DdyjL0gVwAEBOqE.jpg)
>>533614
It's cool how social darwinism was what a lot of people went with as their take, and still continue to, after Darwin wrote his thing
Never underestimate the ability of the powerful
Kirara 🚗
>>533618
social darwinism isn't a theory of evolution take it's an addition in the same way mutual aid is
it was a new theory that was written explicitly by someone other than Darwin and perpetuated

i think knowing the historical context of all this stuff is as important as knowing what the stuff is

>>533617
yeah but he also hated iguanas and talked a ton of shit about them and called them disgusting and stuff
he was so mad

It's not like they're in control, is what I mean
What's an activist group to a megachurch?
Kirara 🚗
in control of what
we've had libraries for a long time, free ones
we have the internet
megachurches don't affect people's lives, btw, idk if you knew that
they very rarely have any impact outside of maybe having a tv show
sk

But curiosity and openness to new information has to be fostered
If it's actively discouraged, then of course people won't be open to finding out true things
